I've been thinking about having a small homesteading/subsistence farming commune kinda thing with some extended family and other people to insulate ourselves from increasing precaritization. Several family members are also interested in this kind of thing and quite a few have the relevant knowledge. This seems like it would be individually beneficial to us but I wonder if it's withdrawing from society too much. Or something.

What are y'all's informed commie opinions about this stuff?

Even though our country is a communist country, it's pretty hard to find any Marxist, or even someone that really understand what communism actually is among the average people. So I'm trying to find out if there's any Vietnamese lurking here at Lemmygrad. Show yourselves comrades!

What is my comrades stance on CASTEISM in India, Japan, and other countries. And also FEUDALISM in many countries around the world? How to eradicate it? What do you think about struggles and works and thoughts of Leaders like Dr. Ambedkar, are their thoughts discussed in other countries where such a inhuman system is prevalent?

Since Beehaw started one, I figured we should start one too.

It can be found here: https://cohost.org/lemmygrad

For those unfamiliar with Cohost: it's a small, largely community-funded, ad-free social media platform that operates somewhat similarly to Tumblr. It's a comfy place full of cool transgender programmer furries and I highly recommend checking it out.

I got banned from my literal fav subreddit bc I got a high rated comment and the mods checked my profile and called me a “terrorist” (except I have never had any attempts at or approval of terrorism, terrorism is to create terror as Lenin said, it doesn’t stir up anything good among a terrified working class and I’m not a psychopath) so I just deleted Reddit. No more libs in my head. No more Yoocrane funds talked about every 2 seconds. No TieJuan talked about every 3 seconds. Peace ☮️ Finally.

Comrades look. I know it's just bourgeois justice and that it's flawed and limited, but...

Bolsonaro (genocidal fascist former president of Brazil) started today his judicial journey to Political Karma town and I'm so relieved.

He was stripped of political rights for 8 years for abusing his power in the last election. And that's just the first of a bunch of trials to come.

This man is so vile. So rotten. He is truly of that type of trash that is the worst smelling in the arsenal of the bourgeoisie.

He literally caused hundreds of thousands of deaths out of political spite. Because a political enemy was pro-vaccines he halted all the negotiations and left Brazil waiting for months. He ignored more than 100 emails and phone calls by pharmaceutical companies. Out of fucking spite.

A few epidemiological studies tried to estimate how many people died directly because of this clown's inaction and it hovers around 200 thousand people.

Brazil was arguably the world leader in vaccination infrastructure. Back when the H1N1 epidemic happened, we delivered almost 1.3 million shots a day. Remote, hard to reach farm country? Vaccinated. Militia controlled favela? Vaccinated. Indigenous people in the middle of the fucking Amazon where you can only get by boat? Vaccinated. This was Brazil 10 years ago.(*)

Who we are now? The country that started vaccinating almost 7 months late because the president was a fucking death-worshipping fascist.

At least we'll get some reckoning now. Limited reckoning, driven by bourgeois justice. But it's what we have for now.

If you're planning any celebrations this weekend, drink one for us, comrades. And sorry for the wall of text. Hahahah.

(*) BTW: that's a good way to show people how flimsy are the concessions from the bourgeoisie. You can go from one of the most sophisticated public health vaccination infrastructures in the world to hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths in 10 years if the bourgeoisie decides they want to squeeze more profits.

I remember a time when Lemmy had like 10 people and we'd be lucky to get 5 upvotes to a single post. Now we actually have a functional feed that will more or less have new content every day.

When I think about it, it is pretty remarkable that I’ve come this far without reattempting suicide. That’s not a joke. My stepfather is a gun enthusiast, so it is easier than ever for me to try something lethal, but I don’t.

Part of the reason is that I don’t want him to feel guilty and shun his own hobby (even if he has lousy politics), and the other reason is that however much my regrets weigh me down, they haven’t pushed me to the point where I’ve seriously reconsidered suicide.

My medication is mostly what’s keeping me afloat, but I speak from experience when I say that I can still have a pretty rough few days when I lose something valuable.

If I lost this community, I know that I would be devastated. I’ll admit that there are things about it that I wish were better, but it’s still the best forum that I’ve ever frequented and I’d be devastated and lost if it vanished. It would almost be like losing a home, which is a pretty strong way to put it, but you know what I mean.

I am usually at loss for words when I receive praise, but I do appreciate it, and it encourages me to continue sharing knowledge with you all, which I hope to do for years to come.

Feel free to ask me anything.

One last thing before I finish my post: if there is something that you want to get me for my birthday, then my only suggestion—as long as you are neither faint of heart nor suffering from battle fatigue—is that you watch Lion of the Desert, if you have not done so already.

So my mother is a landlord, and she wants to kick out a tenant that isn't paying rent.

I asked her if she was seriously going to kick someone out to the streets, and she said that the tenant has family and they could seek help from them.

My mother threatened the tenant saying that if they don't give back the key, she would go to the civil guard.

I need some ideas about what to tell my mother to try to stop her from putting someone on the streets. Any help is appreciated.

My favourite is 83 year old Leo Burt being in the list of most wanted to this day. Dude did an anti-war stunt in 1970, accidentally killed one completely unrelated physicist (and also millions of dollars in damages). Now his possibly buried corpse is still listed as "armed and dangerous" in the FBI "Most Wanted" page.

Second favourite was Dr. Rafiq Sabir still being in jail to this day after getting entrapped by Ali Soufan (yet another "I could've stopped 9/11 if not for those laws guys!" FBI Agent turned independent contractor), who asked him to treat fictional Iraq war combatants from a fictional branch of Al-Qaeda. You can actually go check his name in the US ~~Prisonhub~~ inmate locator.

Since I've joined Lemmy, I've been trying to learn more about leftist political systems and how current activists would like to implement them. I'm also interested in building a nuanced opinion on historical implementations of Marxism.

In my understanding, public scrutiny can be multiple. About methods: free press, direct reports from the state, NGO or foreign observers; and about subjects: military, internal or external affairs, industrial.

What effect does state transparency have on society (good or bad), and would you prefer to live in an open political system personally? Which kind of transparency?

During the cold war, how open and transparent were the USA and USSR? How open are the US, China, Russia and the EU currently?

Do you know resources that approach these subjects that I could read?

Kinda curious because a lot of our heraldry and vexillology, although it looks great, it always include the same 2 or 3 symbols, like the hammer and sickle, red star, etc., and there isn't much variations in the symbols used. So, staying away from stuff already used by Socialist states and movements, what are some non-Communist symbols do you think are a good fit for it?

Today I learned that my stepfather is planning on becoming a landlord. I’m absolutely devastated.

My mom visited me today and as we were talking I told her how I planned to move out of the province I live in, as at this point it’s a lost cause. She agreed with me and told me she planned to move back to the Azores with my stepdad, of course. She then mentioned how they’d be financially well off due to my stepfather wanting to set up businesses. I didn’t know what this business was until she told me how they wanted to make money off of renting properties out.

She told me this in relation to how when she and him are gone (dead) their house and the one I live in will be mine to do with as I please. Because the house I live in is a property they own she made reference to other properties they would invest in in the future.

I don’t think my mom really understands this whole ordeal but my stepfather definitely does and it breaks my heart that he would resort to doing something so evil. I’m incredibly lucky that my parents were more than willing to help me move out of a horrible living situation by paying the down payment for a home while I pay the mortgage. Most people can afford mortgages, it’s the down payment that stops anyone from being able to afford to buy. So I’m lucky and incredibly privileged. I feel like I don’t have the right to be angry at them since they’ve done so much for me but at the same time it hurts to know they want to exploit people for profit.

I didn’t know what to say to her. Was I supposed to lecture her on the nature of landlording? I don’t think she deserves that since she’s never been savvy with this stuff. Do I lecture my stepfather? Maybe, but he’d fight me hard on that and it might screw me over. My stepdad has always been a hyper individualist and has little to no hope in the world improving, anytime I’ve talking about dense housing and better public transit he treats it like a childish daydream. He also hates unions so there’s that. It makes sense why he’d want to be a landlord but I don’t want to be tied to such a deplorable act.

But I look over this whole thing and ask: Does it make me a hypocrite?

As a communist, but I’m living in a house bought by my parents. I’ll have landlords as parents too. What then? Am I disqualified? I’m in genuine distress over this whole thing. I’m scared and confused and I don’t know what to do but cry.

Does anyone have any advice? Anything at all? I feel so alone…

I've been meaning to ask this question: What news sites, blogs, and journalists do you follow for news and current events?

Maybe we'll set up a repository somewhere for people to reference, that can be updated over time as people and publications become more or less relevant/reliable.

I kind of ended my relationship with me now ex this year, I'm into another relationship, it was just a lot of shit, poverty, mental illness, other stuff combined, it was absolutely the worst time for when we tried that.

I love the person with whom I am now, it's nothing related to them, but fuck, Jesus Christ, some times the memories just kill you, it was a lot of years, it was a lot of things, how do I even exist after this? I know I'm not a person who know very well how to get over the past, but this kind of thing just feels like something that will accompany me to my grave.

Like the kind that made you stop and think for a second about how stupid the person advocating it is. For me, it's the classic "The biggest mistake in recent history was the Allies not pushing into Russia after the fall of Berlin."

There's just a level of imperialist arrogance and blood thirst in there that makes my skin crawl. The worst thing in human history was that the US didn't immediately betray the Soviets and wipe them out until they were sure communism was done for.

Hi everyone, not sure where to ask this but has anyone else had issues with minimizing comment chains in posts since the last update?

I will minimize a comment chain I have read through, and if I then upvote any other comment in the thread it expands every comment I had previously minimized. Doesn't do anything if I downvotes though. Has anyone else had a similar experience? It's kind of annoying. I like to minimize chains I have read through to make navigating the comments easier as I read through everything.

I use mobile only and have had the same issue on chrome and Firefox.

I'm curious to see what Lemmygrad does in their free time, apart from shitposting on an obscure internet board.

I went out to a park to chill in the shade and read a book / sleep in the grass.

I also spent some time working on my indoor herb garden. My basil started quickly but since a few days, my cilantro has joined the race as well. Unfortunately there are no signs of the spring onions yet, but inshallah they will grow.

I made banana bread with my gf and afterwards we went to a bar.

Today, I will do a workout and follow my cat's advice of doing absolutely nothing. It's too hot and with the sun on maximum UV strength, going outside would mean turning into a lobster very quickly.

If you had the power to implement any social/economical order in the US today, what would that order be and how would you implement it (step by step) - elaborate (characters of peoople in charge of important roles in society, political order, flag change, national goals, foreign policy, etc.). It can be a mash of political/social orders, doesn't have to be a particular one, you can call it whatever you like. The same goes for the rest of the social roles and political order, doesn't have to be written in books, it can be a mash of whatever you think is right for the particular scenario.
