TL:DR

Despite the hysteria surrounding trans people and bathrooms, several studies have found that nondiscrimination laws that protect trans people's right to use public facilities in accordance with their gender identity don't lead to an increase in sexual assaults. School officials, experts on sexual assault prevention and police departments all agree that protecting trans people poses no threat to cis women and girls.

By contrast, a large number of trans people, including kids, report experiencing harassment, humiliation or even violence when using a public restroom, along with other problems due to fear of harassment.

Trans youth who had restricted access to restroom/locker rooms were at higher risk of sexual assault, and they were no more likely to commit sexual violence. States that ban trans kids from using facilities consistent with their gender identity reported the same rate of sexual violence as states that didn't have such bans.

For the uninitiated, jellyfin is a FOSS alternative to plex, for the double uninitiated, plex is a self-hosted alternative to Netflix, jellyfin can host shows, movies, books(already hosting lots of theory) audiobooks, documentaries and the like.

So, pls suggest stuff i could put on it to help radicalize my friends n family, or just fun stuff to watch. I already have the great classics by the 5 heads and some more. Looking for some spicy red documentaries and shows, also some commie movies would be nice. Suggestions welcome.

Most of my friends and all of my family know English at a decent level, but stuff that has an Italian translation is more welcome.

Ty.

I am so annoyed at my fucking bank!! So I work on a tech area of a bank. I work remotely. We are allowed to have employee accounts with special privileges. I already had an employee account, but wanted to add a savings account to it. I had been with this bank for 10 years and working for it for 4. They closed my accounts because they said that they had to create a whole new account to attach the savings account to it. So then they tell me that I needed $25 dollars. I literally never needed money to open any of my previous accounts with them, so I didn’t bring any cash. They said that they couldn’t open it. I offered transferring funds from another bank right there and there, they said no. I ask if I could just deposit funds tomorrow and they said no. I literally had to give them the cash right then and there. They literally told me this after closing my other 2 accounts. When I called them out on this, I was told that as an employee, I should know that. Wtf?! I work in the mobile app in the tech section, we have no clue about opening accounts or accounts policy, and I never needed money before. I am so pissed that I lost 2 hours in line and got now no accounts!

Then I called another branched and explained the situation and they said that they are okay opening the account with no money as long as I give my word that I will transfer the funds the same day, which makes me so annoyed because the other person kept saying that was not possible! I hate the branch close to me so much!

And the employee account doesn’t even need a balance. I don’t know what their problem is . It doesn’t need a minimum balance. I don’t understand why now they need money to open the account as they are literally seeing that I had 2 accounts with them

Fuck them banks wasting my 2 hours!

I hear a lot of people talk about how we need to look at religion from a materialist lens and that religion is incomparable with socialism. But I think we need to seperate the two. Religion is about the metaphysical so it's hard to look at it from a materialist lens. While politics deals with materialist matters, so it's necessary to view it with a materialist lens. And it's not like atheism is fully materialist either, with 'nothing after death', and 'universe starting without a god' being metaphysical explanations as well. And humans are naturally spiritual and to deny that, makes it harder for socialism to be accepted by people. But of course that doesn't mean we should tolerate the reactionary aspects of religion. We should combat it whenever necessary.

What's your opinion?

I am reading the meeting notes for the 1976th meeting of the UN General Assembly. And I found this funny/based part I wanted to share.

395. The question we have before us is China's place. The majority of us recognize that China is represented by the People's Republic of China. If the United States delegation wishes not to have the representative of Chiang Kai-shek expelled, it is very welcome to take him and seat him in the place of the American delegation

I was doing some online training for a new job, and one of them was of course Diversity and Inclusion training. Part of the course was about harassment, and the way they were talking about it was honestly disgusting. I transcribed a particularly egregious portion below:

Harassment is considered illegal if it's so frequent or severe that it creates a hostile work environment. A hostile work environment is unwelcome behaviors that unreasonably interfere with an employee's ability to work and/or create an intimidating, aggression-filled or offensive work environment. Hostile work environments can make employees not look forward to coming to work, which affects the quality of their performance, and can lead to increased absentee rates and decreased productivity.

Are we joking right now? This can't be serious. Are we saying you couldn't think of a single other reason that harassment might be bad, outside of profit producing productivity?

Really didn't expect to be made sick by this training course, of all things, and yet here we are.

In Socialist Roaders, I hear many people say that "China is capitalist". What I'd like to ask as a response is "Is Sweden socialist?" Any Marxist will respond to that question with a resounding "no". By analyzing class struggle, I have found a pattern. When the class that is not in power ramps up class struggle, the class currently in power has two options:

A) Offer concessions, or B) Double down.

In bourgeois states, both of these approaches have been taken in history. Option A has been taken by countries such as the Nordics, while Option B has been taken by a country like Nazi Germany. Option B leads to an all-out war between bourgeois and proletarian states. China, a proletarian state, is also faced with this dilemma due to the international bourgeoisie threatening socialism, but this time, it's flipped on its head. As socialism is no longer as strong, China choosing Option B would likely result in WW3, which China would want to avoid. As a result, China chose Option A. However, just as concessions made to the proletariat in bourgeois states got rolled back as capitalism became the dominant mode of production, China will roll back concessions to the bourgeoisie once socialism becomes on an equal level, if not dominant.

And I had a blast. It was fun being with so many cool people. Saw some people walking with a communist Trans flag with a hamsic. Everyone was really loving toward eachother. Got a few cat calls from groups of bears lol.

Anyway, felt good that I was able to do this, just wanted to share 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

…I think that reveals something about the hidden class dimensions of our public policy; our grocery bills are determined, the policies, determined by people, who themselves never go to supermarkets.

Our health policy is written out y people who never have to sit for 2 hours in a clinic or an hour in a doctors office.

Our transportation policy is made by people who never have to wait for a bus or look for a parking space, they’ve got helicopters and linos to hurry them away.

Our education policy is made by people who never have to send their children to public school, they send them to private schools(cough polis cough).

Our daycare system, or lack of, determined by people who use private governesses and Nannies, and then go off to Smith College as Barbara Bush did, and lectured to the students there about not being so concerned about accomplishing in your careers and understand that the real joy and satisfaction is in the working and nurturing of children…

… occupational safety laws are made by people who never have to work in a factory or mine. The Supreme Court has ruled that wildcat strikes are illegal, a “violation of contract.” In coal mines , wildcat strikes are the workers only defense against occupational hazards that can be disastrous in a day. You’re going down a mine and you see a foreman detach an alarm wire, that rings the alarm if there’s too much smoke buildup, because he’s got a quota to meet that day and he doesn’t want to stop for smoke buildup, so you stop and go on wildcat strike.

Well, the Supreme Court, none of whom have been NEAR a factory in their lives, or NEAR a mine, and wouldn’t know one end of a mine from another, legislate and say, “as long as there’s a grievance procedure (grievances take a week, two weeks, a month….)That wildcat actions are a “violation of contract and the union must be fined.”

You see? The policy is being made by people who don’t experience the thing.

I've been dabbling in the past year and a half with getting into orgs, which haven't been that hard since I live in a big city, but I still had trouble staying consistent with it or feeling like I have any actual impact.

I went through orgs dealing with asylum seekers, unions for part-time workers, food security, fun local events that raise money for the aforementioned food security project, and now I landed in an org dealing with helping low-wage workers getting benefits that their employers stole from them. Most of them are refugees, some are Palestinians, which does feel somewhat impactful, but it's still a minority.

These were all great orgs with moral people, but the catch is that I can't be passive with it like in my work. There aren't really any managers that are responsible for finding me work at these orgs, because they're busy with their own work. There are no Bullshit Jobs there. I need to ask around and find work myself.

This is exhausting, especially while juggling a 9-5 and a couple of hobbies, and while I'm fully aware of the capitalistic scam of keeping us busy working instead of organizing, I'm yet still frustrated with it. Anyone feeling the same? I hope it'll get more impactful as my life gets more stable, and I have an overall optimistic feeling about this, but non the less the helplessness I feel right now is real :(
