To my brain, nothing is worth pursuing or trying. “How can you guarantee that you’ll be alive to finish anything you start?” My brain asks. And it’s right. I can never make that guarantee.

It directs me to spoil myself with instant gratification because it knows I will still be alive to experience it. There’s no risk of working towards nothing. Don’t make goals. Don’t take risks. Embrace mediocrity. Do the bare minimum needed to survive. That way, you will never be disappointed.

I’m so tired of thinking like this. It started when I got a serious chronic illness that couldn’t be diagnosed. I always manage to survive for longer than I predict, and then I look back and notice that I have done nothing for the last 3 years.

I hope that I don’t continue to make the same mistake in response to Current Events™. I’m sure that falling for it again would be helpful to the exact people I really don’t want to be helping.

What have friends of yours or members of your family chosen for each one? Someone I know is having an event and it has me wondering.

What are y'all's opinions?

I like slatted for the idea of a French cleat system where I can put some shelves or lamps up without taking up floor space. But cloth is also nice for the comfort and it seems more 'bed space' appropriate.

I've seen people using "that's what she said" in a very serious setting, as a way to say "good point/touché". They had no idea it was from the Office.

It’s been nice to see ordinary Americans open up to life in China but everyone is acting blind to their censorship. Makes me thankful for the fediverse and being able to self host my own instance.

Hello, I didn't know where to post this to, which community. I came to Lemmy with the initial reddit migration. I just play video games and smok weed mostly. Lately, the state of the world has me down. And I'm into philosophy.

Basically, in a bunch of recent posts, some deleted by me, others by Mods, and plenty still up.. I thought the term I was trying to explain was called being a Misanthrope.. Someine replied it's called Eco-Fasicm.. I didn't do enough research and started commenting about that.. I'm truly sorry! I felt it sounded wrong eventually and asked an AI called Llama 3.1 what I was really searching for.. It is called "Misanthropic Anti-Natalism". The position that human existence is inherently problematic and that the best solution is for humans to go extinct. This ideology is often based on the idea that humans are a destructive force on the planet, causing harm to other species and the environment, and that our existence is a net negative.

There is a lot more to read on this if you choose to look. Personally, I hope that a bio-phage will be created somewhere with 3d-printers in a science lab using amino acid blocks, synthetic viruses, nano-tech, powered by AI that singularly targets the Human Genome only... Release/Hack it across the planet, Unbelievably contagious.. Most Human pop dead within a week. The straggling Bunker people and billionaires will expire soon after as the air is still death for humans and powered by a defensive AI... Lol sci-fi I know.. but at least more plausible than a Genie's wish for magical extinction...

Misanthropic Anti-Natalists often argue that human beings are driven by Self-Interest, greed, and a desire for power, which leads to exploitation and destruction of other species and the environment. They may also argue that human existence is inherently contradictory to the well-being of other species and the planet as a whole...

Thanks for listening! I'd like other people's ideas on this? I don't believe in God either. Just Thermo-dynamics and Universal Entropy.. the great mixing.

I've been wanting to upgrade from my old RTX 3070 for a while now and finally made the plunge. I managed to find an RTX 4080 Super for only a little more than MSRP ($1100 USD). It'll be coming in at the end of the month from Germany of all places. Now I'm seeing the price on that exact same card (a Zotac 4080 Super Trinity OC) anywhere from $1700 to $2300 which is absolutely ridiculous.

I wanted to see what the market would look like when the 5000 series came out but I got pessimistic about the pricing. Yes the MSRP on the similar 5080 is $999, but with the upcoming 25% tariffs in the US, the remaining crypto mining price increases, AI use, and scalpers I don't plan on seeing the prices realistically going less than $1500 at a minimum.

I know I'm getting a now obsolete generation so the longevity won't be as good but even the new 5080 has the same VRAM amount (16 GB) as the 4080 series, so I'm trying not to feel too bad about not having the latest and greatest generation. At the same time I'm working with the budget I have and not spending hundreds of dollars more than needed.

As much as I like my 3070 it's starting to really show it's age. It struggles on low settings on the latest patch of Stalker 2 on 3440x1440 ultrawide, can't handle Ray tracing in Alan Wake 2, can't load HD textures in Far Cry 6 due to only having 8 GB of VRAM, and only gets marginally passable framerates (30 fps or so) on medium settings with Ray tracing and DLSS 3 performance on Cyberpunk 2077.

I'm definitely going to appreciate the uplift in quality and performance, especially considering I just dropped $1100 on a card.

This blows... Wtf is that a thing anyways, what a stupid, fascist way of censorship. It's like you getting cattle marked for life in a social media and I didn't do anything. I didn't insulted anyone or attacked any minority, it sucks because the communities I followed about the media I consume are there. And only them hold the "market" of forum like groups since Google plus death. No other app comes close to them. Posting here is like posting in a desert for that media I liked.

I cut the top of a 16.9 ounce water bottle off, and filled it flush to the top with loose dry snow to let melt and measure. The cut bottle measured right at 5½ inches tall, once it melted down there was right at ¾ of an inch of water. That's only about 13.64% of the initial volume, meaning the snow was about 86.36% air.

We also just got a weather update for our town, they're saying we got about 7 inches of snow, which would have only been just shy of an inch of rain (about 61/64 of an inch), if it hadn't come down as snow.

Edit: 7 inches ≈ 1 banana

Teenagers are amusing (lemmings.world)

Last Sunday, while I was playing Xbox, my little bro (he's 15, but I'm like more than double his age) asked me if I knew "these songs" obviously I'm unplugged from modern pop music so I didn't knew a single one, just by curiousity I asked him to play some older music, specifically music from the time I arrived to the country I'm living now and he was fascinated about it.

Keep in mind he was born in this country, we have the same mother but different father, so this is technically "his music" but he never heard it because apparently it was too old, despite being pop hits back in 2006 - 07

Next day, he's listening old music all by himself, and learning the lyrics. Maybe to impress his friends or whatever. I was never like that, even at his age. Then again after reaching my teenager years I basically stopped having friends. It's amusing.

Valentine's...

Another memo about my failure as an adult. At the warehouse I'm working lots of the package and merch are hearts, plushies, and similar heart shaped stuff, plus some Xmas decorations for some fucking reason...

Is there any way to escape it? I guess not. I probably wouldn't think too much about it if I was younger but since last week was my bday ready to remind me that I'm getting old... This back to back just crushes me.
