Let me very clear. If you don't use a car, you are not part of society. You refuse to support the oil industry. You should be shamed, endangered and attacked.

Attendees at the first stop of Premier Danielle Smith’s travelling “Alberta Next” roadshow in Red Deer were overwhelmingly supportive of her series of proposals to enhance Alberta’s autonomy.

This is likely due to the fact that free tickets for the event were released to UCP members before the general public, a source who holds a UCP membership confirmed to the Progress Report.

In June, Premier Smith announced a 14-person panel that would solicit Albertans’ input on six policy areas—equalization, a provincial pension plan, a provincial police force, withholding social services from some immigrants, constitutional reform and forgoing the Canada Revenue Agency. In the following days, the panel was expanded by two members, bringing the total to 16.

The town halls are divided into each policy area, with attendees shown a five-minute video before they were given the opportunity to line up and provide feedback on each issue. These videos, which have been criticized as “heavily biased,” are the same ones participants in the province’s online survey have to view before answering questions, which are themselves leading.

Nine months after the Pharmacare Act (C-64) received Royal Assent on October 10, 2024 , just four provinces and territories have signed bilateral agreements with the federal government. Those agreements are valued at $928 million over four years starting in 2026.

The Pharmacare Act is meant to provide universal access to Diabetes medication and contraceptives, making those pharmaceuticals free at the point of access for people covered by public health insurance. In order to implement that vision, the federal government needs to sign funding agreements with the provinces, who are responsible for administering health plans.

With so few jurisdictions enrolled in pharmacare, four out of five Canadians are not benefiting from the program. The gap is leaving a patchwork of coverage across the country.

European governments have attempted to rein in Silicon Valley’s excesses for years. Trump’s re-election and his moves toward potentially weaponizing internet data have further boosted Europe’s resolve to move away from the U.S.-led internet.

One newer effort is Eurostack. A joint initiative involving academics, policymakers, companies and governments, it envisions an independent digital ecosystem that better reflects European values — democratic, sovereign, inclusive, transparent, respectful of personal privacy and innovation-driven.

Spokesperson Francesca Bria explains the “stack” arises from the idea that a digitally sovereign internet needs to have European control from the ground up.

That includes the acquisition of raw materials and manufacture and operation of the physical components that comprise computers and servers; the cloud infrastructure that has the processing power and storage to be operational at scale; the operating systems and applications that comprise the user interface; the AI models and algorithms that drive services and its policy and governance framework.

Prospective gains to Europe are considerable. They include greater cybersecurity, promoting innovation, keeping high-end creative jobs in Europe, promoting collaboration on equitable terms and creating high-skilled employment opportunities.

Canada receives no mention in the Eurostack proposal to date, but the project is still very much in the developmental phase. Investment so far is in the tens of millions instead of the billions it will require.

Canada has a lot to offer and to gain from being part of the Eurostack initiative. With the project still taking shape, now is the perfect time to get on board.

OTTAWA—On Friday, NDP critic for Foreign Affairs and Defence Heather McPherson (Edmonton Strathcona) and NDP House Leader Alexandre Boulerice (Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie) announced their intention to nominate UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese for the next Nobel Peace Prize.

“Francesca Albanese has stood up for human rights, peace and international law since the beginning of her mandate as UN Special Rapporteur,” said McPherson. “She has travelled the world to share what she has witnessed on the ground in the occupied Palestinian territories and has urged us to take action in the name of justice and the rule of law. She has shown true courage and conviction in the face of a genocide that world leaders have failed to take concrete action to stop. Albanese should be the recipient of the Nobel Peace prize.”

The nomination process for the Nobel Peace Prize allows Members of Parliament to make submissions.

With the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the illegal expansion of settlements in the West Bank, Albanese has visited several countries — including Canada last year — to speak out against theses human rights violations committed against Palestinians by the Israeli war cabinet and to urge world leaders to use their power to help stop them. For this reason, the NDP will nominate her for the Nobel Peace Prize.

“The world — including Canadians — was appalled to see the Prime Minister of Israel, who has arrest warrants issued against him for war crimes, nominating a convicted felon, Donald Trump, for a Nobel Peace Prize. This is a bad joke,” said Boulerice. “Meanwhile, the Trump administration issued sanctions against Albanese, who has dedicated her career to calling out human rights violations and urging world leaders to act against injustice. We need to set this right. She is the one who truly deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. The NDP will keep fighting for actions so that both Palestinians and Israelis can live in peace and security.”

According to Politico, Mark Carney is under intense pressure.

Auto Manufacturers want to get rid of the electric vehicle mandate. They simply refuse to sell more small electric cars in Canada, claiming it's impossible / unprofitable.

They also say Donald Trump is now President of the United States. Climate Change is no longer an american concern. The political climate in the United States has changed and Canada should follow the US, whether it likes or not.

Alberta recently reached the highest oil production in history.

https://ici.radio-canada.ca/rci/en/news/2175213/albertas-oilsands-to-hit-record-production-high-in-2025

Why are Albertan oil communities so angry? If oil production boomed under Justin Trudeau, why do they claim he hurt Alberta?

This Reuters article explains what's really going on. It's not for workers. It's for rich investors. Yet there is plenty of interesting content.

Basically, Alberta oil executives brag they engaged in massive labor cost-cutting (firing people) and they replaced unionized workers by robots and automation

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/how-canadas-oil-sands-transformed-into-one-north-americas-lowest-cost-plays-2025-07-16/

This explains the amount of anger coming out from Alberta.

The Alberta oil economy is thriving. It's the people who aren't.

Many Alberta oil communities lost their well paying jobs. But they (wrongly) believe it's because environmental laws / Justin Trudeau reduced Alberta oil production.

Danielle Smith and the separatists perfectly understand this.
