If you notice an improperly formatted reply, kindly message the poster and gently remind them it needs to comport with the Naltrexone example below. It is simple and keeps things traversable and useful, thanks 🙏

Naltrexone

I will start with naltrexone, which can help people who have difficulty regulating their drinking have a more natural and sustainable relationship with alcohol should they choose to not cut it out of their lives entirely.

I am looking for a firefox extension that will allow me to toggle microphone access, preferrably per tab, for example disabling it while I'm not speaking in a zoom meeting to reduce tracking.

Edit: clarification due to misunderstanding: i want something that lets me toggle actually giving a site mic input without removing permissions

Epic tales, mastering the universe, or just reading a good book next to a fireplace?

You know they never would as they are, but you can't help wishing they might.

Also because we're imagining nonsense here, this blender is as big as it needs to be to accomplish its task, or things are somehow able to fit into an ordinary sized blender. You have some celestial bodies you think might make a good drink/smoothie? Toss'em into the Imaginary Blender.

If Joseph has 4 sons and 2 daughters (form a previous marriage before Mary [ref Catholicism), and in that age men usually married at about 18 and girls at 14-15 in that age. Was Joseph twice Mary's age at the birth of Christ?

I was watching a twitch streamer play the game pogostuck (A game similar in frustration and difficulty to Getting over it with Bennett Foddy — Don't Fall!).

They were also reading chat at the same time (usually out loud, as well). Multitasking.

Lots of sources (here's one) say that true multitasking is impossible. Rather, it's very fast switching, where there is a degradation of performance.

Knowing this, I naturally made it my mission to trip the streamer up with seemingly benign messages.

I was sharing some actual information about another streamer who beat another game, but a made a typo something like:

I remember a streamer beat the game a game ...

And I noticed how much more the streamer struggled to read this compared to previous, accidental typos (missing spaces, extra spaces, etc.). He spent a good 5 seconds on this message, and during the process, he fell really far. 😈

So I decided to do some testing. Inserting words, swapping them around, and whatnot, to see what tripped him up the most. Most typos didn't affect him.

There was one typo that tripped him again, where I said something like:

If it wasn't for a for

So it seems to be repetition? But I couldn't always replicate this with other forms of repetition.

Later on, I copied the two guards riddle, with an alteration:

One of the guards always lies and the other always lies as wekk. You don't know which one is the truth-teller or the liar either. However both guards know each other

Sadly, I didn't cut the part about "don't know which is truth teller or liar" out.

The streamer spent a good 5 minutes interpreting this puzzle, and eventually interpreting it as the original puzzle. Then, he was trying to solve a riddle, game, and read chat all at once.

He was stuck on the bottom until he gave up on the riddle (I revealed that I meant what I said when I said both guards lie). 😈

Anyway, that was a bit off topic but still relevant.

I'm wondering if any studies have been done on this? I know studies have been done on human's ability to read words with the letters partially scrambled, but what about typos?

How can I improve my distraction game (with plausible deniability of course)?

Assume that the future can change based on your actions, so any historical information that you bring along with you from the intervening 25 years may quickly drift out of the new realities history.

Edit: also assume that you can be given a healthy 21-year-old body if you want or take your previous self's place.

Further, identification will be provided for you if you were not born at that time.

You would still have the same age, gender, personality, skin color, etc. and you would be able to speak at least one local language and would know basic information of the era and place. Your family, social standing, and such would be randomly picked.

Is there a term for that phenomenon where someone gets so far into a topic that they become unaware of how much contextual knowledge they have about it?

Then they write some inscrutable technical docs, use unexplained acronyms, or tell a story about “he”, "she’ and/or “they” where you have no idea who they’re talking about.

Could be outstanding, could be something you've already completed.

I like to break my goals down into a sort of ladder with the eventual goal at the top, but smaller achievements on the way. So to that end my bucket list includes such gems as:

  • Go out for a meal alone
  • Buy a fancy ice lolly without feeling guilty about it
  • Climb up the nearby hill without stopping for a break
  • Reach out to for a catchup
  • Finish reading the whole Discworld book series (I never did read the last one, iykyk)

For those that continually use services like Uber Eats, Grubhub, DoorDash, etc., how does justify using the cost?

With fees and tip added, it's almost double the cost, the food arrives cold and wait time is longer than you picking it up yourself.

I will start. Lovely by Billie Eilish. I have already played it 34 times and can't get enough it. I feel like i could hear it all day.

World was already the biggest by far when I first started lurking back in July, and it's just getting more dominant. Before, there was quite some diversity in the distribution of generic communities, but nowadays the vast majority of posts that reach the top are from over there.

I really can't see any specific virtue that it has; uptime is not the best (or so I've heard), the moderation is quite lacking (which is demonstrated by the fact that Beehaw defederated them), they make some unpopular moderation choices (like blocking !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com), and overall the atmosphere is a lot less... nice than those of smaller instances.

I also feel like it goes against the idea of the Fediverse that one instance has control over most of the platform. Especially on Lemmy, where communities mean that building community within an instance makes so much more sense than elsewhere, and upvotes are federated near perfectly regardless the size of your instance, decentralisation makes a lot of sense. It really just doesn't make sense to me that Lemmy World is where people are going.

like, GiantHairyNipplemonsters.com..

Or maybe better, the domain for beer brewed especially for gamers.. Game Ale.

"... that was.. luthis at.. gaymail.. .com???"

"Exactly, luthis@gameale.com."

".. g a y..m a i l?"

"What?? No! GAME ALE dot com!"

Just the random shit that comes into my brain when I walk without other stimulus.. surely I'm not the only one.

I really like comparison tables on wikipedia but find them hard to navigate.

For example: Comparison of web browsers > General Information

Say I want a web browser for Linux which has been recently updated. I can sort by the "Platform" column, or by "Latest release: Date" but not both.

Sometimes tables can be very wide and/or very tall. Once you get to scrolling it is impossible to see either the row or column headings. So then you can't tell where you even are in the table. Example: Table of AMD processors Also they can have complex structures with merged headings and content.

Ideally I would like to apply some basic spreadsheet-type operations like hiding rows/columns, filtering, sorting by multiple columns etc. Even if there was a way to easily get the table into an actual spreadsheet that would be helpful. I tried some extensions that export tables to other formats but nothing worked without a lot of cleanup.

Is there some kind of trick or tool or extension that makes these ginormous tables useful? I can't tell how people even add information to these things, they are so large.

The media won't give me great answers to this question and I think this I trust this community more, thus I want to know from you. Also, I have heard reports that Russia was winning the war, if that's true, did the west miscalculate the situation by allowing diplomacy to take a backseat and allowing Ukraine to a large plethora of military resources?

PS: I realize there are many casualties on both sides and I am not trying to downplay the suffering, but I am curious as to how it is going for Ukraine. Right now I am hearing ever louder calls of Russia winning, those have existed forever, but they seem to have grown louder now, so I was wondering what you thought about it. Also, I am somewhat concerned of allowing a dictatorship to just erase at it's convenience a free and democratic country.

Sorry I don't have a crack tree before picture for you, I was too embarrassed lol. Lemmy is the best 🤩✨

Seems pointless and inconvenient for me as they usually seem to be poor quality, and can you really listen to music in the shower, and are you showering long enough to benefit from it?

Or do you own one and use for a different purpose, like swimming or Kayaking?

It just annoys me because I'm not going to order it and I'm abstaining from alcohol. But there's always some "special deals" being advertised by UberEats on alcohol, as well as meat, dairy and eggs. It's like they're really sleazy and desperate to hawk these products.
