I am hoping to move ASAP and have no idea what I'm doing.

Does anyone have any guidance? I've never made much money in my life so I'm nervous about that.

I want to move to the West Coast and know it's more expensive there. I want to be somewhere LGBT friendly. I like nature and paddle boarding too... So it would be cool to still be able to do that.

I don't know where to start. When I look for apartments it's always about ...1 or 2 apartments in my price range in an area of hundred of thousands of people.

I'm kind of unsure about looking for a job. I typically suck at interviews and have been the type to prove myself via hard work vs selling myself to an employer. I'm a pretty quiet person and it takes a lot for me to warm up to people and I find this to be a bad trait for employment. Ime it seems social people get picked first regardless of work ethic.

Idk any advice would be great. Like steps to be broken down so I'm not overwhelmed.

I want to avoid areas of crime, and prejudice. I also enjoy people that are down to earth more than what I consider wealth, trend and privilege.

I make about $14.50 right now....... lol-fml.

I wish dorm style living was a thing.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Edit: in terms of our of state... I'm thinking Vancouver CA or Toronto. West Coast would probably be Cali, OR or wa.

I'm somewhat open to East Coast south of Maryland.

Also, I'm in my 30s.

I used to listen to long form essays on Youtube. My favourite ones either break down the history of a conspiracy, teach me something new and cool about the world, or explore a hobby I've never been interested in.

I don't like the ones about killers or heavy drama. I also don't like podcasts that spend half the time reading the latest news from [topic] in verbatim .

What are some podcasts you can recommend me while I chip away at other things?

Obviously a hypothetical scenario. There is no way to pass on the knowledge to anyone else. Time freezes for you only, and once you have your answer you are out of this world.

The question can allow you to see into the past, present and future and gain comprehension of any topic/issue. But it's only one question.

Edit: the point isn't "how to cheat death". You can't. Your body is frozen and there is nothing you can do with this knowledge other than knowing it, and die. So if you would rather be frozen in a limbo just thinking of numbers for eternity, be my guest.

Such a variety of replies, it's been really interesting to read them!

What would you want to know? Personally I'd want to see a timelapse or milestone glimpses of humanity's future until the end of Earth's existence (if we survive that long)

How do you not drip back onto it? Do you use paper too? How is it okay for me to use the same one right after Typhoid Larry? Doesn't poo go everywhere?

It just seems so weird.

I would really rather that these were actual examples, and not conspiracy theories. We all have our own unsubstantiated ideas about what shadowy no-gooders are doing, but I'd rather hear about things that are actually happening.

Nobody tells me what I'm going to do or where I will be going and when that happens

I am open to invitations or requests or suggestions where my involvement is desired or ostensibly necesary for somone else. But I will never respond to this as a statement of fact or in the form of a threat

First time I’ve been feeling lonely this year, ik this is in stark contrast with the time of the year but I wasn’t able to perform in my school annual function (I really wanted to) and for some reason I have been feeling lonely since, what do you do when you feel like this?

I also ask what they did to recreate a young Sarah Connor at the beginning of the same movie trying and failing to protect John. Only makeup?

This is kind of a question and conformation. Is there a way to backup a lemmy account from one instance and in case some thing happens, restore that user in another (with all the posts, likes, etc) ? I read that they were working on cross instance accounts , but is there a workaround meanwhile? Do we know the status of this implementation?

I thought in Harry Potter when they "sacked" Professor Dumbledore that they twisted his nutsack AND then fired/expelled him.

Suffice it to say, Chamber was far more dramatic and high-stakes for me than it needed to be.

Let's go, come clean Lemmingz

Reading comments in different communities, I noticed that users hardly leave smilies. Why is that?

This time of year is meant to be filled with joy and family get-togethers, but not everyone has family or anything to be happy about. So are you ok?

I'm a bit worried. Since the upgrade to 0.19.0 I have been getting 1 on all my comments. Indicating either my normal engaging personality has left me, I never was and the pity has stopped, or maybe I'm not being seen.

Tommy can you hear me? Can you feel me near you?

Tommy can you see me? Can I help to cheer you?

Just recently I was in a conversation with a number of UK mainlanders and we had a debate over what "tories" meant, apparently disproportionately ordinarily it refers to a political party and it's not usual to use it as short for "territories" as I've used it (according to how the debate ended, it was half and half between them). And once again I'm reminded of how people feel to look back at their usage of a word/phrase over the years and cringe.

More tragically, me and a friend were embarrassed once upon realizing everyone was confusing "encephalitis" with "hydrocephalus" when talking to someone about their kid with hydrocephalus. Awkward because encephalitis is caused by HIV.

I only have a few local news website and a few tech news feeds like arstechnica. But most of the tech news I get is from Lemmy itself.

I would love to spice up my Feeds. I know that I can get OPML files from sources like these , instead I thought I'd ask the wonderful people here.

Stefania Maurizi, John Goetz and Christian Mihr discussed in Georg Büchner Buchladen (bookshop) in Berlin about: “What is the Purpose of Journalism if War Crimes Are Not Allowed to be Published?”.

I think this is a good question for discussion. What do you think?

I want to set a start time and end time and have my Hue lights slowly and very gradually over that timeframe shift from like yellow--> red or even white/blue at the start of the day--> red at end and have it automatically carry that out.

Is this possible and what is the easiest way to automate and have this play out lile that?
