The only few reason I know so far is software availability, like adobe software, and Microsoft suite. Is there more of major reasons that I missed?

I think as a child I got viruses from one of the ads, you know, the ones would put on the side of the site. We had to call in a guy, to clean parents' computer. I felt really guilty and never touched those ads again.

So Google's and Meta's main business are ads. And recently I felt confused. Do people click on ads? Don't these ads feel phishy to them?

I'm sorry in larger communities there is a larger chance of people commenting on your posts than posting in niche communities. It's where you all are and more importantly it is where you comment. The chances of someone being into the movie threads in the larger communities is great, if you are into the movie this question is for you.

I am faced with the fact that the music video of my favourite band is not available in my region.
I found out about this video by accident, thanks to an app for Invidious.

Perhaps the decision to restrict access belongs to the record label? But what's the point if the band's discs and vinyl records are sold in my country?

(Old music videos and a few new ones are available for viewing. Only one video is not available.)

Arte TV's YouTube channel also has some interesting phenomena going on.

They post recordings of concerts, and after a while they remove them from public access. This can happen a few days after the release or a few months later.

I've seen a lot of posts here on Lemmy, specifically in the "fuck cars" communities as to how Electric Vehicles do pretty much nothing for the Climate, but I continue to see Climate activists everywhere try pushing so, so hard for Electric Vehicles.

Are they actually beneficial to the planet other than limiting exhaust, or is that it? or maybe exhaust is a way bigger problem?

Is there an opportunity to replace a clean markdown editor in lemmy's own instance with some kind of WYSIWYG? Preferably similar to Editorjs? Has anyone already implemented this in their own instances?

I would be willing to pay the coder for help in replacing the editor.

Rules:

  1. The time traveller is able to travel backward and forward through time (max forward is 2074) and they can only transport things that can fit in a small backpack.

  2. You can choose when the 3 hours begin but it has to be in 2024 and once it has begun the timer can't be reset or stopped.

  3. They will answer to the best of their ability but imagine this is a random person from 2074.

It is becoming near impossible to find relevant information from search engines. Duckduckgo, SearXNG, Bing, Google, and so many more mainstream engines have a significantly high noise to signal ratio, and it is getting worse.

Here are a collection of the best search engines I know, please add more to the list.

If no more high quality search engines exist, would it be possible to host your own?

EDIT: Some new discoveries. The addon uBlacklist and filters can block super SEO sites from appearing in search.

I'm not sure how many filmakers/videographers are here on Lemmy but I'd rather ask here than Reddit if I can

I've got a subscription with Artlist which ends in April and am looking for other providers. I've found that the music selection hasn't been great for my needs and I'll spend a long time trying to find something that will work with the videos I am producing at the moment.

Any suggestions with other providers? Audiio seem pretty popular, but would love to hear from people who've used these other services.

EDIT: Stumbled across this post on Reddit which has some mentions of others.

trying to stop being so thin skinned:

I had an online discussion with a random, we had a short but intense exchange until he replied and then blocked me, robbing me of a chance to reply.

I feel hurt because I couldn't reply. To me that means he won. I feel insulted and angry.

Yes, this is something I should talk to about with a shrink, but the therapist I contacted hasn't replied yet, so I might have to start looking for a new one if this one ain't reliable.

In the meantime I turn to the second best thing I can think of: this channel.

I can try to rationalize it: I cannot change it, I'm letting that guy live free in my mind, letting it go is the rational thing to do.

Except that here I'm not being rational, but emotional and I don't know why this triggers me so much.

Not having the last word triggers me. How would you solve this?

I read translations of Chinese fanfics that have a lot of obscure idioms.
I can't find the meaning of these idioms on the internet.

Maybe there are some people here who are experts in this?

The idiom from the title is one character's reflection on the people who defeated their enemies.

This character thought, "They think they're strong, but they're like the monkey that jumped out to pluck the peach."

People don’t quit jobs, they quit managers and coworkers. In my case I’d quit some coworkers and sometimes my manager.

But others coworkers are good ones I like working with, and the workplace is not very far, meaning my commute is so small I can bike there. There’s lots of downtime as well and sometimes my biggest trouble is how not to die of boredom listening to my coworkers’ boring stories because they feel offended if I don’t sit with them. I’m unionized.

I like keeping to myself and deciding what kind of people I want in my private life. Most of my coworkers are not this kind of people. I’ve been called a loner, which is actually true and it’s not a problem unless people bully me for it (because they feel offended by my silence, apparently). My biggest problem is office drama. However, wherever I go, there’s always going to be drama, so wouldn’t it be wiser to stay with the bad I already know?

I don’t get drama. It’s a waste of everyone’s time.

Although I think that I've researched a lot, something might missed my research. So I would like the below:

  1. Be able to provide and admin various domains for email services.
  2. Each domain will have each own users and be independent and each user should have their own mailbox. Don't want 1 user with different email addresses.
  3. Modern UI. So I guess no Migadu.
  4. Apps for iOS and Android or be able to use Foss apps like K9.
  5. Provide white label option for each domain to have their own logos etc.

As far as I looked, Zoho is close to what I'm looking for but now sure. Also looked infomaniak which might offer those too.

So, please provide your feedback 😀

Edit: Don't want Google and I'm talking about a paid plan. I'm aware that what I ask cannot be provided for free.

What is a good piece of advice from your parents or that you’ve learned that others may not know or that you wish you were told as a child/teen?

Up until I started working, I didn't really encounter that question. When I did start working, people started asking me that question.

Them: Where are you from?

Me: Canada.

Them: Where are your grandparents from?

Me: Canada.

Them: Ok, where are your great grandparents from?

Me: Canada.

It's irritating sometimes. I just want to exist, do my job and go home, like anyone else. Once is ok, twice is odd, three times is weird, and the fourth time is a pattern.

The only accent that I might have would probably be from Newfoundland, Canada, as I grew up with a lot of people from there. I also talk too fast sometimes.

Have you had similar experiences, and if so, how did you handle it? Can fast speech patterns cause this? Why do random people care so much?

You'd probably need someone else to call on your behalf. If you have, how did it turn out?

Edit: There seems to be some confusion about what I'm asking. I'm not talking about fake references. I'm talking about calling your reference on the sly to see if they're actually going to give you a positive review.

For example things don't go well with your landlord and you suspect they're going to depict you as bad tenant when you put them down as a reference while looking for a new place.

The same thing could be said for bosses and jobs.

I feel like things on Lemmy were pretty chill several months ago, and that’s started to change.

People used to talk each other like they would talk to a neighbor. Now I get the sense that people have become quick to be negative, attack, and not be constructive.

Am I crazy in feeling like the vibe has changed?
