For me it was these.

"A focused fool can accomplish more than a distracted genius"

"Until the lion learns to write, every story will glorify the hunter"

These two quotes really helped get my @** in gear.

Why I say confirmed our launch is there have been at least one close call on each side. One I remember the details of one was the USSR Officer in charge, Stanislav Petrov, over-rode the information from the radar and 40 years ago, on 26 September 1983, he saved from potential nuclear disaster.

When discussing this with some peers the consensus was that the would have to sound the alarm. Especially now, since it is unlikely a first strike would take out all cities [count on Russian duds], so the survivors would blame the bunker buddies (the higher people, ala Dr Strangelove)

Mine probably isn't that secret these days, but almost every sauce I add nutritional yeast to. Curry, chilli, bolognese, it just makes them all better.

@asklemmy What do you think it would take for people to drop Twitter & Reddit and move to the Fediverse?

I'm looking for easy and cheap options for lunches on weekdays. I mostly eat deli sandwiches and hot dogs right now and I always feel like shit after eating them. I think I need something healthier but I don't have time over my lunch hour to cook anything too fancy. What do you all do for reliable healthy easy lunches?

I'm worried for the world. All I've been thinking about is WW3 and this shit makes me want to vomit. I can't even smoke weed anymore without having a near panic attack. I feel unmotivated. I wake up and immediately just want to go back to bed. I'm not trying to spread fear but the Doomsday clock is 90 seconds till midnight, during the Cuban missile crisis, it was 7 minutes before midnight. Can we just have one day of fucking peace? Can everyone just stop for one day and enjoy one day of peace?

Nowadays, most people use password managers (hopefully). However, there are still some passwords that you need to memorize, like master password (for a password manager), phone lock, wifi password, etc.

Security wise, can passphrase reach the strength of a good password without getting so long that it defeats the purpose of even using it?

I don't see much the point: cotton breaks easier than polyester, is not as expandable as spandex, cotton absorbs moisture, whereas polyester keeps it out.

Maybe I'm wrong?

Hello everyone,
For reasons I won't get into here, I'm looking for a minimum wage job where I would still have enough downtime to self-study an online course I'm doing. I've been thinking something like this might be possible in a receptionist style scenario. Has anyone done this before? What sorts of jobs are good for this? I'm gessing it's probably jobs where they are looking for a person to pay just to have someone on-site and on-call...

Like, can you name just a few large cities in certain regions, none at all, wtf is the USA, etc.

The USA is geopolitically isolated in a rather unique way on the global stage where this is an interesting perspective.

I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla. She's been my trusty steed for the last 14 years and is in good working order. I recognize she won't last forever, and if, god forbid (mostly for her) I get in an accident, I will need to get a new car. So what dumb cars do you drive, and what would you replace them with?

For the few who want to know the show and the actor, it's "Monsieur Spade," an AMC produced take on Sam Spade post-America, retired and living in France. I think it's really well done, and Clive Owen does a great job of playing San Spade but...I REALLY want to replace his face and voice with Bogart's.

TLDR: still too damn hard

I do the daily wordle, but lately have been liking the murdle and the hexcodle.

I've tried worldle, but I'm crap at geography. Probably a reason I should play more, but thems be the breaks.

Any recommendations?

I don't necessarily mean adult as in NSFW.

I'd probably bring in my RG280V. It was my first handheld emulator. I had emulated games on my phone in the past and even used a Bluetooth controller but playing on it felt different. More real in a way.

I grew up with the Game Boy so the idea of having thousands of games on the go is pretty neat to me.

I've since moved on to the RG405M.

What about you? Do you have anything neat or special to you that you could talk about for a couple minutes?

Would love to see photos as well

I bought some leggins for running, cycling, stretching... for winter (sale) and summer.

The summer ones have some translucent bits on the back side of both knees.

There are other summer leggings, completely closed from the same brand that I didn't buy because to me those bits are well placed to get rid of moisture, and are more expensive than the completely closed ones. Maybe the seller used my naivete to convince me to buy the ones with translucent bits?

So, fashion or function? because to me the completely closed ones are more fashionable.

The closed ones are cheaper than the ones with bits, so I assume the ones with bits are better
