Anyone using MyStudyLife? (sh.itjust.works)

I'm enrolling an university this year and looking for cross-platform time schedular software. I searched for this and found these

  • My Study Life
  • iStudiez

Both are cross-platform and looks great and I've created an account on MySchoolLife. Honestly, I don't have any idea which one is better. I can't even check if they're well-maintained because they are not open-sourced and developments are unclear.

Anyone using/used any of these software (before)? If so, which do you think is better?

I imagine all plastics will be out of the question. I'm wondering about what ways food packaging might become regulated to upcycling in the domestic or even commercial space. Assuming energy remains a $ scarce $ commodity I don't imagine recycling glass will be super practical as a replacement. Do we move to more unpackaged goods and bring our own containers to fill at markets? Do we start running two way logistics chains where a more durable glass container is bought and returned to market? How do we achieve a lower energy state of normal in packaging goods?

I recently switched from wireless to wired headphones (Samson SR-850, probably the best for the very reasonable price) and my chair's wheels instantly started eating its cable. Right now I'm using a small plastic hook that came with a face mask to keep it off the floor, but I'd like to hear other solutions.

I tried a couple of times to find certain audiobooks, but seldomly had luck. There just does not seem to be a place that sells digital versions of audiobooks, similar to how bandcamp sells music.

And even putting on my eye patch and throwing out my fishing net I was not able to find a place to get them.

I do not want to use a subscription service, especially if it's part of amazon.

Therefore it seems buying a CD and ripping it is the only option left.

Pretty much what the title says. I know he's a former president and has all of his supporters, but what's the official reason? Thanks.

I have been working on a minecraft mod pack that has a mechanic where the player can fly between different worlds via the elytra. eg. the overworld -> moon -> mars etc. I have a few different directions I can take Mars' design:

  • Dead world with remnants of the extinct martian civilization. Environmental storytelling used to convey a mystery to be solved by the player

  • HG Wells' war of the worlds inspired with the martian statues referencing their 3 colored pupiled eyes on a villager model and red weed plants growing underground that infect plants like trees and spread on corrupted dirt (basically dirt that has had blood within 4 blocks of it) and eventually turns white and dies if its in one of the overworld dimensions

  • harmless/benevelant living martians based on the barsoon series

Or some combination of those

Thoughts?

It can be from any angle. Presently, I'm pondering what kind of context various LGBTQ+ characters can be written without making any kind of political statement, or rather, simply making a statement through normalization in a natural way. In other words, how do I empathize like the cool kids clique?

a much deeper explanation and contextThe only example that comes to mind is the Star Trek Discovery pilot. I tried watching it but it felt cringe to me, like overt feminism without normalization or balance. I had recently finished all of the primary Dune series and absolutely loved Siona and the Fish Speaker army of women (that rapes men at one point) in GEoD; Sheeana, Darwi, and Murbella in Heretics/Chapterhouse; the Bene Gesserit, Honored Matre, etc. I never thought twice about these roles being a statement in of itself. These were simply great characters that happened to be women.

Another example is R. Daneel Olivaw in many of Asimov's books. They are normalized AGI without the dystopian bias message and fear mongering.

Tell me about your favorite characters or how some niche and underrepresented group is/can be done right please. I'm not just asking about the diversity of those that tend to stand out as targets for conservatives. I want to know about that aspect of your life that very few people are aware of.

For instance I am an ex Jehovah's Witness. I know what it is like to be raised in social isolation even within a city and suburbia. I know about the artificial mental wall and duality of 'us versus them' and how facts are subjectively ignored and filtered. I know how social network isolation is reinforced and used to manipulate. I also know how the brainwashing is achieved both intentionally and unintentionally. Then there is the misogyny, and unique forms of prejudice, and conventional forms with the normalization of hate. I can write this kind of character well, or rather how it feels to escape such a system, the loneliness, the intellectual insecurities, the ungrounded curiosity and the unbounded feeling of escaping the oppression while building a moral and philosophical ethos from scratch after rejecting everything your life was built upon. It is a tragic character that is stuck in the middle; very capable, but very difficult to realize their potential.

Tell me about your secret character like I have revealed mine please. How do I write them in a way that feels natural in their triumphs and vulnerabilities?

I’m searching around for a lemmy client to that has the option to hide downvotes altogether.

I don’t mind if downvotes are still counted on the instance side, i just don’t care.

I had an extraordinary experience today, but it didn't relate to a hobby or career or political topic. I tried to find an appropriate community but I guess I don't have the right terms. Where can one turn to share triumphs, defeats, and sacred moments?

I mean like awareness that, just under the surface, there are deep explorations waiting for the right time and place to emerge; things you've set aside or placed on the back burner but will tackle eventually/many you already have tackled.

Are you deeply self aware of these interests like some kind of list? If so, are these interests deeply connected in your mind to your past explorations and interests like some kind of road map or branching tree structure of thought?

I'm of the view that this is a semantic question where we have a word, "pile", that describes a general amount but doesn't have a specified quantity to it, and so the only way we can determine the amount of units required to constitute a pile at the bare minimum, is through public consensus on the most commonly shared idea we generally have when we think of a pile.

I also think it's possible for there to be a "range of graduation" between a non-pile and a pile, so for example "a non-pile becomes a pile somewhere between x grains and x grains" (depending on what most people think this range is), and if a given number of grains falls below this range, it would necessarily be only a minority of people that would still accept it to be a pile.

So I plan to count the answers here and see if we can come to some kind of consensus or at least most common or average opinion. For sake of not skewing the results, I won't suggest my opinion on what I think the number or range of grains is upon which a non-pile becomes a pile. What do you think it is?

asklemmy is not a support channel. I haven't found any macOS related support channel on lemmy and while Im searching the internet for macOS forums, Id like to know if you have any recommendation. Some questions I have are:

how to reinstall an OCLP unsupported macOS security copy from a usb stick to the original partition

Would it make sense to ask an apple vendor to change the notebook's keyboard? It's Portuguese, I want an American keyboard)

Where do I get more memory, a new battery and can I change both things at home or is it all glued together and the only way to do it is through a vendor?

I really just need to talk about this to someone. I'm in college and I've always loved to learn, but now I don't feel motivated do my school work or to study, but at the same time, when a test roles around and I don't know how to answer the questions I get stressed and care about trying to do well. I've also always beaten myself over the head about having good grades, my parents never had to push me to do good in school. I'm just so stressed about it, the semester is ending soon, and I'm scared I'm gonna fail 2 classes which will be then first time I've ever failed a class.
