For those of you who don't know, Linux From Scratch is a project that teaches you how to compile your own custom distro, with everything compiled from source code.

What was your experience like? Was it easier or harder than you expected? Do you run it as a daily driver or did you just do it for fun?

I was thinking of something like the Duff Man theme and slapping sounds and moans, but I feel that Lemmy knows better.

(Obviously, I would start texting and calling him during the next meeting)

I see it referenced constantly here, not quite as much on Reddit. I know what it means, but just wondering why such the popularity over on this side of the fence?

I feel like I do this a lot with podcasts. I started watching the Gus and Eddy podcast and finished it about a month before the last episode was released for example.

It could be anything though. An online game, an OS, a console, TV show, a forum, or anything else. I'm just curious what people have to say.

It also doesn't need to be "dead". It could just be a significant change where a chunk of the community left.

They would lose any magical powers they may have had in the book, but anything they are, rather than can do, will stay. For example people from the His Dark Materials world would keep their daemons. You can take them out at any time in the story's plot, but for all other people consuming the media, it will be shown that the character suddenly disappears, with the rest of the plot being affected accordingly. People will notice this happening. The character is not under any sort of control by you once you have taken them out of the story, although they will appear next to you to start with.

And when did you / the person you know realize he was scammed?

What tips do you have for people who haven’t lived this, so they don’t fall for it?

How long till they start asking for money?

What sites do scammers use? Can it be a facebook group or is it only limited to dating sites?

It's already well known at work that I don't just not like gore videos but that I hate them and actively avoid them.

A colleague sent me a video of a man being murdered by axe via WhatsApp to my personal phone on my lunch break. Before I opened it I asked if it was a video that I would want to see (because I know what sort of character he is), he implied it was fine.

Despite my suspicion I took his word and watched it. I immediately scolded him, he then made light of the situation, I told him that it wasn't funny and that if it ever happened again I would be making a formal complaint immediately.

A couple of minutes later, another colleague came in to the mess room, the guy that sent the video made fun of me for not liking the video in front of them. I told him that he was making fun of me and that I wasn't ok with that.

Do I have the right to not be sent murder videos? What would an employer do if I made a complaint?

I was trying to find some medicine today and realised I need a better system to organise what I have and know what I don’t have. Currently, everything is kind of thrown into a drawer.

Ideally it will be seamless enough that it doesn’t become a chore when I need to add or remove something.

Thank you for all the suggestions thus far. I just want to make a small clarification.

I'm not looking for a system to organise the medicine/vitamins that I am currently taking (although the ideas provided are super useful). I'm thinking more along the lines of a "stock management" system for the stuff I am not actively using.

For me, it was learning English. Although I do make a few mistakes here and there, I'm mostly perfect on it.

The amount of resources you have access to dramatically increases when you know a universal language. I say dramatically because it made me realize how much my native language lacks when it comes to certain topics. The most obvious one to me was tech and computers. Everybody knows how to use Windows but there are very few resources about stuff beyond Windows. It's actually sad. [insert sad face here]

I'm going to the Europe concert so there might be a chance things improve until then, but I was wondering if anyone here actually went there and could tell me their experiences

Most psychologists don't care about Freud's work outside of a historical sense and kinda hate him as a person. His work was quite literally used as an example of pseudoscience by Karl Popper.

And yet for some reason philosophers have an obsession with integrating his views into their work and artists keep using his views as inspiration and analyze existing works via the lens of psychoanalysis.

Why?

I'm suffering from anxiety-related panic attacks and looking to have 1on1 video sessions with a therapist to relieve stress. Ideally available on demand but I'm open to try any good therapy at this point.

And how can this be improved ? Should "normies" be pushed into RTFM or ELI5 ?

Hello. Let's talk about self-care. Who practices self-care regularly? I've been making an absolute effort to practice self-care, and it's definitely improving my mood. I floss, meditate, do qigong, breathwork, etc. Yes, flossing is self-care, take care of yo teefs. What does everyone do for self-care? Hello! I've been searching for a reddit alternative, and yes, I've picked Lemmy and Raddle, but here's the thing. My morbid curiosity is perked up, and a part of me wants to join the "free speech" alternatives, like Saidit, Poal, etc. What's wrong with me that I want to join toxic places? I mean, yes I'll find a whole new perspective (albeit wrong), on political topics, but a part of me wants to be the antagonist, and post lefty memes, and music with a left-leaning message (bands from r/rabm) I know that's like kicking the hornet's nest, so you don't need to start in with "that's a bad idea" I know it is. My main point/question is, is it wrong to join a site with potential hate speech? Does it make someone a bad person?

I don't mean stuff where people have come up with all sorts of wild stories but most credible sources have pretty much figured it out (like the construction of the pyramids), I mean stuff where we have no clue and are genuinely baffled (like the Roman dodecahedrons).

Today I learned that the third line in the sudo warning was only added in 2004. Is there perhaps a clear event of history facts or cultural changes between 1993 and 2004 that made the software developers add that line ?
