So at the beginning of summer I repurposed an old Android phone into a dedicated emulator. The phone's old enough it has an honest to god user replaceable battery so I decided to get another one and keep it in my backpack to double my gaming time.

A few weeks later I got caught in a thunderstorm and got absolutely drenched head to toe. I got home and found the phone and bluetooth controller were just a bit damp but okay, but I completely forgot the spare battery until the next day when I discovered it still in my backpack and absolutely soaked. I dried it and left it to dry on a shelf, and noticed some bluish corrosion forming at the contacts the next day that I promptly scrubbed off. I noticed more corrosion a few more times in the following days, but it's now sat on that shelf since June and looks normal.

How bad of an idea would it be to put it in the phone and see if it still works or holds a charge?

like I went to taco bell and they didn't even have napkins out. they had the other stuff just no napkins, I assume because some fucking ghoul noticed people liked taking them for their cars so now we just don't get napkins! so they can save $100 per quarter rather than provide the barest minimum quality of life features.

Preferably with your primary address so we know where to send the van.

Like hosted a website or a server for your personal needs, or taken a smartphone given to you for work or something like that.

I noticed that a lot of the posts on Lemmy are news, memes, and interesting discussions. I like the regular flow of content we have, and I find a lot of it engaging.

However, maybe it's just me, but I haven't seen a lot of people sharing projects that they personally worked on, be it art, games, programs, music, etc. I've been working on a programming project for a year now, and I've thought about sharing it on Lemmy to see what people think of it, but the lack of projects from other people deters me. My imposter syndrome also kicks into high gear and tells me that my creations just aren't good enough to be on Lemmy, and I shouldn't taint people's feeds with my mediocre endeavors; after all, I and plenty of other people are enjoying the content here as-is.

So, I'm interested to hear about others' perspectives: Would you like to see more user-created projects and art, or would you prefer to primarily see more news and focused discussions instead?

You have to learn how to be a duck. This means you gotta learn how to fly, hunt food, etc.

Bit of a simple question: Some people on lemmy are still posting stuff from youtube, xitter and the like.

Disclaimer: this question is me asking genuinely but also trying to make it fun by arbitrary ranking/escalating it. Not trying to say one is better than the others.

I want to see a list for each popular server (e.g. the top 10 lemmy instances) and I want to see - for each instance - with whom they federate. How can I do this? Any sure-fire way to know if a instance like HexBear.net is being federated with lemmy.world? How do you know?

I've always considered the nature of living to be to grow, to become more -- and the nature of dying to be reduced, to become less. Sort of like taking the derivative of what you are, the rate of change..

This has the unusual consequence that when people tell me to 'live a little' e.g. with idle pastimes, it feels to me like they are asking me to 'die a little'.

For me its opening the apple weather app and the map in it and watching the temperatures and wind patterns all around the world

Capitalism is criticized a lot on here (especially by American users, it seems to me). Most of that seems well-founded, but I also have the feeling that most of these complaints are simply venting and not the first step to improvement.

So I would like to know what specific changes you (especially Americans) want to see from lawmakers.

Checked Fediverse Observer and whole bunch of server has been decommissioned because of which users can't login and because they can't login , Lemmy is losing active users. Any plans to fix this ? I am more concerned about the content thats lost.

Whats the point of writing prn, f@ck, sht or anything like that instead of the actual words? You can still read them, its not like they are gone if you replace a letter or two.

ive just heard of an incident where students redirected their books codes to p**n. can i make sure that doesnt happen? also, im using google to generate them, is there a foss alternative as im scared of tracking. lastly, can i make the qr code redirect to a specific page of a pdf as i want people to be able to scan them and immediately land on a specific part
