Wondering if this is a feature Lemmy allows. I'm active in some small non-hexbear-pride communities with only an instance admin for a mod and I'm curious if I could even offer to help or if that's a dead end.

It seems like when I press it it does the same thing that does, but looks cooler?

I've got two off the top of my head:

First is that the design of the USB drives needing to be oriented up or down was the result of a minor cost cutting choice. The inventor regrets it because it wouldn't been easy made so that USB drives were reversible.

Second is the abundance of pointless SEO stuff on recipe pages. It would be a cool opportunity for the creator to add a personal touch to the recipe page beneath the recipe, but they pop in first along with ads and suggested links. And they're so frustrating to navigate that they had to incorporate a 'jump to recipe' button.

What are the go-to subjects for revealing the true, regressive beliefs of reactionaries who don't consider themselves reactionary? Off the top of my head:

-Trans people in sports: Major gateway to transphobia and misogyny. Complaints about trans athletes inevitably lead to sexism towards literally any woman with muscles. Pretty sure this is how Joe Rogan and a ton of his supporters became so unhinged.

-Affirmative action: So, so many liberals and "leftists" will complain about how they would've totally gotten into Harvard and Yale if not for The Blacks^tm^. Love to bring up SAT scores even though they've been proven to be racist and classist and a shit metric for intellectual value.

-Shakespeare authorship question: A bit niche. Basically, Curtis Yarvin and other Dark Enlightenment dweebs don't think that Shakespeare was capable of penning such timeless plays because he wasn't rich, and according to them, not rich=dumb and uncreative mental husk.

One time, when I was working at a summer camp as a specialty staff, my coworker/roommate who I barely talked to and barely knew randomly pulled out his switch and asked me if I could do a part of Celeste he was stuck on. I said sure, and did it for him, but then asked why he asked me in particular. He just said I 'seemed like the type of guy to have beaten Celeste'. I haven't started socially transitioning, so I don't know where that vibe came from, and I still think about it thinking-about-it

For me, it's the drive thru-- makes the boomer kids lazy, wasting gas, environmently unfriendly, no thank you. I'll physically walk into the fast food lobby for reconstituted pink chicken slime as nature intended.

I'm sure I can find the answers to these questions in google individually, but other people in the fediverse might benefit from having these questions answered as well.

Why is Trump a "Wet Boy"?

Why is a defecating pig a "PBB"?

Why do you, a chapotraphouse discussion forum, only discuss something called "citations needed" instead of the chapo podcast?

How is El Chapo's trap house in any way related to leftism?

Why are your emojis so big?

What's the limit for your big tent left? Maoists? Trotskyites? Demsocs? Socdems? TERF socialists? Progressive Democrats? Monarchist socialists?

To widen the topic of the post, feel free to post any other questions regarding Hexbear as well.

I understand the humor in it but I feel like I don't appreciate it nearly as much as the rest of you

It's the manufacturing share of total jobs.

Nitter

Questions

  1. What do you think a better percentage for manufacturing share of total jobs would be?

  2. Why?

  3. My grasp of even basic economics is very weak. I need leftist econ 101 resources. Podcasts. Youtube channels. Whatever. Suggestions?

My little brother just died. They found him dead on his back porch. Doesn't look like any foul play was involved, but there was a ton of Unisom and Phenibut in his apartment.

I'd never heard of it before today.

They declawed their cat. They are confused about showing kindness to the homeless. They like pop country.

Any hope here?

For example, the topic of anti-natalism. It isn't an inherently reactionary subject. But very often it turns into "poor people/any other minority shouldn't have children". Perhaps that is a bad example. Maybe the answer is to debunk and combat reactionary takes while not ceding the idea/subject.

Churn credit cards = constantly open and close new credit cards for the sign up bonuses but in a careful way that doesn't crash your credit score

So I've met quite a few people in tech who do this and they're literally all hardcore neoliberals. They hate any type of welfare for new immigrants, refugees, and the unemployed. They despise unions and think it's for lazy people. They worship companies and have snitched on coworkers to HR for doing stuff like stealing office supplies and abusing employee benefits

I'm wondering if all credit card hobbyists are like this or just the ones in tech because theoretically, there's nothing about having good personal finance that inherently makes you have shitty politics. I guess I can see how people who do this think poor people are poor because they don't do all this neurotic credit card min maxing shit?

A post from a petit bourgeoisie business owner asking how to protect himself from cancel culture showed up in my feed and I am vibrating with the desire to dunk but I don't want to break our rules if we're supposed to be nice to other instances.

Edit: link because I'm not a lib

I keep seeing some feder-posts with cross-posting listed at the top, just not sure how that works.

Maybe I missed something along the way, but it looks like you can only select one comm when posting on hexbear. Is this just disabled for now?

Every site I can find is like a teespring or redbubble shop that sells $30 shirts that say shit like "i just want healthcare hun rose-fist " or just has general random tee shirts so you might find some weird chud shit next to the Antifa Supersoldier shirt you're looking at.

I've been browsing Hexbear and noticed that while it has some discussions it mainly has an abundance of memes and visual content. While the link aggregator format is great for discussions and text posts, I can't help but wonder why not use an image board like Leftybooru. Image boards offer the advantage of easily finding images based on tags, whereas Lemmy lacks this feature. So you can never go back to an image you liked unless you remember something said in the post. On the other hand, Lemmy does allow for better organization of discussions through comment trees. It seems like a platform that combines the best of both worlds would be ideal for the Hexbear community. What are your thoughts on this? Is there a reason why you haven't adopted a more hybrid approach?

Obviously Bernie is not a revolutionary, nor a proper socialist. However, that is not the question I am asking. Rather, given his long and consistent record as a social-democratic reformist, is Bernie merely misguided or is he an active betrayer of the worker's cause?

Still new here and trying to figure things out. Regarding voting, I'd like to get some feedback on some thoughts I've had.

I get that voting D/R is pointless since Ds just seatwarm for Rs at best, and actively implement R policies at worst. They have no incentive to work for left policies, and R policies will ultimately benefit them personally.

That being said, we're "punished" for not voting D by getting an actual insane R in office. If Rs are in control its way worse, right? or, maybe it has to get worse to get better?

So what is the dominant strategy here for National elections? My personal vote is extremely minor and unimportant so keeping that in mind, I can:

  1. not vote - Lower participation rate shows I don't endorse the system, and if enough people don't vote, does it mean anything?

  2. vote third party - I like this idea since, although super unlikely, it gives more pressure to D and R to moderate (lol) as neither want to lose power. Write in votes aren't going to turn in to anything big without some serious organizing, but I don't know if there's ever been a serious attempt to organize a mass write in campaign? Or if there will even be a viable third party candidate in 2024?

  3. vote D - 🤮

  4. Something else?

I haven't seen this discussed much in the short time I've been here so maybe I'm missing something obvious or misunderstanding something above, so would appreciate any help. Maybe the real answer is it really doesn't matter, but would like to make the best limited choice I can

Liberals are authoritarians, we all pretty much agree on that here but what's the best way to communicate this to a well meaning baby leftist?

Anything worth linking to or specific phrasings you like using? How do you go about justifying that liberals are the "real" authoritarians and not the communists?
