so this is something that I find interesting.

every tech company was plagued with issues at one point or another, apple had their fair share and so did any other company. the thing is - when a flaw is found on apple products people blow it to huge dimensions. apple customers (me included) expect perfection, we expect a flawless product right out of the box, but when we don't get it we judge apple quite harshly.this is some thing iv'e never noticed with any other tech company. why?

I think this comes down to marketing and reputation.

as an example, let's compare Apples reputation with Google and Samsung - the companies making the leading android flagships in the iPhone pro line price range:

Google is known as software company, people see their pixel line as the only way to get the vanilla android experience without bloatware - as such, they don't expect the pixel line to be in the forefront of hardware innovation - and indeed their tensor chips are extremely underwhelming. people buy pixel phones for vanilla android and have no other expectations.

Samsung always had a reputation for half-assing new technologies and rushing them in order to be the first with a product utilizing the new technologies in the market. this is evident back in the days of the galaxy s4 which had face unlock years before apple launched Face ID, and in some parts of the world used their own exynos chip which was the first octa core chip utilizing ARM's big.little in a smartphone - problem was that the face unlock didn't work more than 50% of the time, and the exynos chip had a design issue that allowed either the 4 performance cores to be active or the 4 efficiency cores, which resulted in the galaxy s4 running slower and hotter than the iPhone 4 with a dual core chip. this tradition continues over the years with the galaxy watch, curved displays, and foldable phones. as a result, while on paper the galaxy phones are technological marvels, this doesn't translate well to real world use as they are full of gimmicks and bloatware and become sluggish after very little time.

now we get to Apple. apple always had the reputation of a high quality brand. they would be behind the competition in terms of features, then roll out a feature that would not work seamlessly and perfectly for the end user.

but not only that - unlike other tech bands, Apple also brands their products as a fashion statement and a status symbol. comparing an iPhone to to any other flagship phone is like comparing a Swatch to a Rolex, sure, both are watches and both tell the time, but a Rolex is made from premium materials, with utmost precision and regard to little details.

the way Apple markets their own brand causes their customer base to expect perfection from them.

obviously this affects how mistakes made by apple are blown out of proportion and remembered for years at a time while Samsung's exploding battery fiasco has fizzled out and is largely forgotten by now.

but this also comes into play in what we expect when we buy an apple product:

- when people complain about cosmetic imperfections in their apple products the comments are encouraging them to replace it. since this is unacceptable for an expensive apple device to be imperfect, while for other manufacturers, the comments ae mostly "it's a tool, use it and stop worrying"

- people are willing ro engage in endless replacement loops hoping to find their perfect unicorn device that has not even the smallest scratch, nick, dent, scuff, display unevenness or any other imperfection.

- even I, when I buy an apple product I inspect it the same way I would an expensive watch or piece of jewelry, and I always find some kind of blemish. I only recently learned to lower my standards as I come to realize that the perfect unicorn device does not exist and trying to endlessly replace devices will only waste my time and not bring me closer to getting said perfect unicorn device.

I think this could be solved in 2 ways:

  1. lowering expectations - change the marketing strategy so that the brand is no longer synonymous with premium quality, and lower prices. but this would of course hurt Apple's brand image which differentiate them from other tech companies
  2. raise standards - implement stricter QC protocols, send Apple's own QC engineers to oversee the process in factories, make warranty more flexible, maybe release devices that allow for certain cosmetic issues to be fixed on the spot, similar to how a watchmaker can polish watches. this would obviously cost a lot of money, and i'm not sure it is even possible at the large rates most apple products are manufactured at.

what do you think? is that even a problem? if so, how should it be addressed?

Just had a different animation appear on my watch and can’t figure out what triggered it or what is was… almost seemed like a time warp animation focused on the center of the dial. Anyone else seen this or know what it is?

I’m trying to add an album of two separate people in the people & pets section of iPhotos. My husband has one that has our two kids and compiles every photo that they both are in into one album. He doesn’t know how he did it, and I can’t figure it out for the life of me! Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

Anybody else facing this issue? So recently I've updated my iPhone 13 to the latest iOS 17.1.1. I was a bit skeptical about the update after hearing different things from different sources but I've updated at last. Everything else seems fine but I'm facing this one weird bug on WhatsApp. So when I'm playing some video on WhatsApp, the volume slider not working like you can't turn on or off the volume by pressing volume button while you're watching some video on WhatsApp. You have to manually adjust the volume from control centre or else it just wouldn't work. It's so Annoying I've heard people saying its happening on 15series but I'm facing his too on my 13. Anybody else facing this issue? Please let me know.

I am having serious issues making and receiving calls since the forced IOS 17.1.1 update. I went online to the support forums and found hundreds of others having similar issues. Continued looking and found thousands of people posting all over various sites about issues they are effected with.

So I made a comment about what I was experiencing, and I got an email stating my comment was edited. I go back and see they completely removed a portion of my post, to their benefit.

Never seen a forum that actually goes in and edits portions of your comments to reflect their company in a better light. What else do they edit? Do they go in twist peoples words to make negative comments more favorable as well?

Original post: What angers me is this was a forced update for me; I wasn’t given the choice!

now making and receiving calls is extremely bugged! The screen gets this white shade to it, like a light grey color instead of black, and I get this weird buzzing when talking to people!

I cannot make reliable outgoing calls, and incoming calls are just as bad!

At this point we need a class action lawsuit! This is just ridiculous, and seriously effecting many peoples lives!!

Hi, my iPhone is 13 pro max and on iOS 17.1.1 update, I’ve got my airdrop only to last for 10 minutes for everyone and then it switches back to everyone… Obviously you all know. So The question is: how can I keep it permanently on for everyone?

So I’m a first time AW user and its series 7 and I was so happy about it and all, but now that the things are settling in, I’m started to doubt the purchase, from disappointing battery life compared to $20 great chinese bands, to stupid Siri that needs constant internet connection to make simple call while driving (while iPhone has offline Siri for this, the watch still can’t communicate through that) to just bland stupid sleep tracking that’s completely complicated to use it as is and completely false data generated by it like the above pic.

Basically before the first awake segment, I took off my AW to use restroom and mind you my phone and watch was not in sleep focus but was ahead of sleep schedule, and somehow it recorded a ghost’s sleep data core and deep sleep (innovation and shit over here!), once I left the bathroom and wore my watch again it registered awake as it should, and somehow during this awake segment Watch says I slept briefly between which I didn’t but I was in bed on my phone moving around a lot. Also around 2:50 am I set the sleep schedule for the night yet it decides to keep this messed up data anyway. Am I doing something wrong here to begin with, just why this much complexity I believe if it had continuous HR like other great Chinese bands at even 2-3 minute intervals it would be much better solving this.

Hi, hoping someone can give advice. My wife's iPhone 13 mini has started doing this since an update earlier this week.

We've done a the reset by pressing volume up, down and then holding the power button until the apple logo came up. The next option is going to be restoring it to factory default. I'm an android user so not sure if there's something I'm missing

Thanks in advance.

I own a 2020 MacBook Air with an i3 processor, and it's serving me well as I am not the heavy user. I'm curious about the anticipated duration of Apple's support for this MacBook line. Should I consider upgrading to one of the newer MacBook models?

I’m currently deciding whether to choose either the Natural Titanium or Blue Titanium color for the iPhone 15 Pro. I heard reviews that the non-natural ones chip off easily, revealing the more natural color underneath. It also frustrates me that some stores require price increases depending on the color’s demand. The natural color has higher demand therefore making it the most expensive color option. On the other hand, the blue and black ones are a few dollars more cheaper. Help me choose which color is best for me, or perhaps the wisest choice.

Hello all,

I just bought a genuin Apple 20w USB-C charger off Amazon and noticed that it delays 1-2 secs before charging starts. The old 5w USB-A charger did not do this. I already cleaned the charging jack but it always delays. Is this expected behavior? Does anyone know why this happens? Is my charger fake?

Currently on my SE2020 and I personally think this is peak iPhone design, with the home button with Touch ID and the single handed use size. Everything about this phone is perfect, except as I’m looking to upgrade I would like usb-c for that single cable convenience. However, I was disappointed to see the rumours of the next SE adopting the notch design, meaning the old design will be lost forever. Thoughts on Apple making a usb-c version of the old design as a last hurrah for the home button?
