Hello everyone! I am planning on buying my partner an Apple Watch for Christmas but I’m not sure which one to buy. Obviously, I would say buying the newest generation is the best, but I see the series 9 is $325, meanwhile the SE 2nd gen is $270 and also has GPS and cellular. What do you think is more desirable? A newer model or an older one with cellular?

Can I use an Apple watch without an iPhone?

I have an option to buy a smart watch as a part of my annual company benefit. I currently have an Android so I was considering Pixel/Samsung but Apple watch seems to be the gold standard overall. I considered Garmin but those advanced metrics might not be very useful for me.

My current phone (although a little old) works fine for me and I don't see the need to spend extra on a new phone to just get a watch. I planned to hold on to my current phone until it dies or I get a very good deal. I just couldn't justify the cost of a new phone (started working recently).

A lot of my friends have iPhones and I'll probably buy one soon. But, for now, is there a way I can use the watch. (I anyways need to buy some watch else the credits expire)I was thinking if I could just borrow a friend's iPhone, sign in with my account (I own a Mac), and get started with my watch. Use it for 6-8 months until I eventually buy my own iPhone.

To clarify, I don't see the need to buy any smart watch whatsoever. Consider that I have the choice of getting one as a gift.

I just bought an Apple Watch SE 2nd gen for my dad’s 60th birthday.

I thought I read online that it would work with his iPhone 7 but maybe only with watchOS 8.7 or something like that. I think the info is a bit dated and now I realise that the 2 might not work together. What do you think?

Thank you!

So I brought an Apple Watch SE from the pawnshop for $100. Everything works fine, but I’m trying to add a line to my phone so it all can be connected together number and all. And T mobile telling me they can’t do it/add a line until I pay off my payment arrangement. Which I cannot do until Friday and the lady told me she can check the status of the watch to see if it’s not paid off or still under someone else account since I brought it at a pawnshop. But I have a certain amount of time to return it if anything wrong. So my question is how can I check the status myself ?

Rumours have it that there’s a new Apple TV 4K coming in the first half of next year. Would it be worth waiting for it or buying now?

Getting first iPhone for mom! She’s always used an android. She doesn’t care for the fastest or 120 Hz or any bells and whistles.

She likes to take photos and videos, what’s the best currently I can get her?

I’m currently leaning towards an iPhone 14.

I don't know why this topic got so little attention, but today I learnt from personal experience you can scratch the SS case and(!) sapphire crystal by its own band! No owning experience videos or comparison guides talk about it – seems like you can discover this only after the damage has been done.

That's ridiculous Apple approved it for production. Tbh, I think they discovered it after releasing the product, like with iPhone 5 coating. Let's look at the facts:

  1. You can damage a brand new product straight after opening the box just by letting a slight contact between the items.
  2. Knockoff bands are safer for your watch than the original you get in the box.
  3. I believe you can damage the watch to unwearable & unsellable condition just by throwing it into a backpack and travelling with it.

As a result, I believe there needs to be at least a warning message on the Graphite Milanese Loop box about the potential damage of using it. Though I understand no-one would buy it if it presumes you have to be extra careful every time you put on, take off, and charge the watch in order to preserve its functional state.

Thank God I got an S7 for half the price and the damage is only on the back crystal + several micro scratches on the case. Don't want to imagine how pissed someone would be after paying almost 1000 EUR for an S9 and damaging it in such a non-intuitive way.

P.S. I forgot to mention 1 more thing:

One of the main selling points of an SS product is durability. The fact, that they include a band – an item that's one of very few things that is capable of doing damage in everyday life – in the box, and it is always the closest thing to your watch is unbelievable.

Finally broke down and got an Apple TV after my fire stick annoyed me for the last time. What are some cool features that may not be apparent right away? Anything that improves the qol on the device at all?

I’m looking for a good value game controller that will work well with games on Apple TV and also with my Nintendo Switch. I’m finding it hard to figure out if controllers, especially the budget ones, are compatible.

Does anyone out there have any tips or recommendations?

The iPhones are :

  1. iPhone 2G
  2. iPhone 3G
  3. iPhone 3Gs
  4. iPhone 4
  5. iPhone 4s
  6. iPhone 5
  7. iPhone 5c
  8. iPhone 5s
  9. iPhone 6
  10. iPhone 6s
  11. iPhone SE 2016
  12. iPhone 7
  13. iPhone 8

And if it has a better battery life than them, how much better is it?

Dropped my iPhone 13 in 3m deep water yesterday. Decided to go after it today, and it turned on underwater. Rinsed it in the sink, and dried it with a hairdryer and it works just fine! The speakers are a little f’d but we’re good. Hoping it doesn’t have any damage

Hello! I recently purchased an Apple Watch, the SE 2nd generation. Do both the 41mm and 45mm fit the SE? They have different lengths and it looks like I may need the length of the 45mm. Thanks!

I currently have a MacBook Pro I got in 2019 that I used for school and now work. It’s starting to run slower and doesn’t hold its battery that well, so I’m considering getting a new computer.

I’ve also seen the Airs but never really understood the difference, and it seems some say they’re better for most people.

Because I use my computer for personal and work reasons, it gets a lot of use. I tend to have many tabs open, for example, with spreadsheets, google docs, and other pages for work open. And then I may open a new window and do personal stuff like plan trips, watch videos, stream shows, etc.

Because my current computer gets overwhelmed with lots of stuff going on and it has 8 gigabytes of memory, I was considering getting 16 gigabytes, but I wonder if it’s actually a memory issue and not just part of my computer aging?

Evidently, I’m not well read in computer specs and I’m wondering generally if folks think a new Air would suffice for me over a Pro?

I have a probably unwarranted mental bias that Pros must be much better, but I have no knowledge to back up that thought. But I wonder, for example, if there’s a big difference between the M1 vs M2 vs M3 chips. My bias would be to get the latest M3 in a pro since I hope to have this computer for 5+ years, though I’d rather optimize for budget if the differences are trivial.

One other small note, my job occasionally requires that I do some very, very basic video editing, but this is infrequent.

I appreciate any help!

Hi there I have an OWC NVME M.2 SSD enclosure that only has a Thunderbolt 3 connector, I also have a dongle h , however when I connect it to my dongle usb c port, it won't power on it has to be plugged directly to my macbook air m1 usb c port. I suspect the problem is due to not enough power suppplied to the dongle to power it on. Is there any dongle that has 2 usb c port one for powering the dongle and mac, one is for the NVME enclosure.

Since Thanksgiving day right after my run when I end my workout my watch goes into constant restart mode. Just constant black screen and Apple logo. My watch works perfectly when I wake up. I charge it overnight, every night. I wake up, put my watch on and it's working normally then about an hour after I wake up I go for a run and it does that weird thing after I end my run. The only fix is putting it back on the charger for a couple of minutes. Then it works fine the rest of the day. I have a Series 4. Running the latest watchOS.

This if the fourth day in a row it's happened. Is this happening to anyone else? Anyone know of a fix?

I picked up my Apple Watch 2 days ago. I mainly want to use it for fitness and keeping track.

Today when I commuted to work, my Apple Watch gave me a notification saying that I’ve started a workout (not true however as I use an e-scooter to and from work).

Is there anyway to let Apple Watch know I’m not working out just riding an e scooter

I bought a 16" Pro thinking I would need it and realized I never do anything other than simple photo/video editing, occasional VM usage and browsing the internet. Returned it and used the $1000~ savings to book a vacation to the Caribbean instead.

I had fallen for the future proof fallacy when even than, the savings could have been used to buy another new MacBook Air in 3-4 years which would be newer than whatever 'future proofing' I can do now. I would rather buy a new and updated MacBook Air every 4 years with the savings than budget for a Pro model every 7-9 years.

I noticed no difference between using the Pro and Air at all, at least not worth $1000. This sub convinced me that the Air is what 99% of the population would need and is very powerful as is!

Is there anything I can do to improve the keyboard? I use swipe texting and I don’t remember it being THIS bad, but about the past six months it’s been fucking terrible.
