I’m currently in Australia on vacation (I live in the US), and my iPhone 11pro crapped out. The kind people at the Apple Store basically told me to buy the iPhone that I wanted, and then return it at the end of my trip, or keep it if I wanted the sim-card version of the phone.

So I’m in the unique position of needing to choose between an iPhone with a physical SIM card slot, or one that is 5G mmWave enabled. I do travel often, so could see the physical sim slot coming in handy. If it makes a difference, I live in San Francisco, but am not sure if there is 5G mmWave there.

Would love to hear people’s thoughts below! Which would you choose?

Safari is completely freezing for me when going to certain sites. Setlist.fm being the most consistent example. Just goes completely unresponsive. I’ve loaded the site in chrome & it’s fine. This a known issue? Any fixes? Thanks.

Hi community, so i have my apple tv 4k plugged in the tv’s Hdmi 2.1 port. I have match frame rate and content ON, should i use Free-Sync and Game mode of the Tv on the Apple Tv’s HDMI port ! I notice picture looks a bit more white like if the brightness is turned up. Game mode turns off my tv’s most picture enhancements and Siri remote usage feels very smooth. Please suggest what would be the best settings.

I am a programmer myself, and I can‘t find any resources on how to create my own apple watch faces. By which I mean properly custom, not a predefined layout with some swappable parts and colours. Properly custom behaviour, custom layouts for widgets, the whole shebang. Can someone point me to the right resources for this?

I’ve observed that my photos are all yellow tinged. Whereas the newer phones have a more orangey glow in the pictures.

Is this planned obsolescence or something I need to fix in the settings? If the latter, I can’t figure out what’s gone wrong.

Hi, recently got a pro-camera and am looking at getting a MacBook for editing. I've never owned a MacBook.

I currently edit using Lightroom on the phone but am limited by its screen size.

I also plan on doing basic video editing (currently using Light Cup - very basic but want to improve) and music recording using GarageBand.

I've done basic multi-tracking in GarageBand as well as score composing using an old iPad mini so, as far that is concerned I should be fine with any model but it looks like the photo editing aspect might play a bigger role.

Looking at:

1. 14" M2Pro 16gb + 512gb
2. 14" M3 Pro 18gb + 512gb

Both of them running at $1799, the M2 was running at $1599 and is now unavailable 😞

What are the major significant changes I should look out for? Speakers? Battery life? Backlit keys?

For the price I think I should just go ahead and get the M3 since it's a newer model unless the M2 drops again in price.

My 2017 MacBook Pro recently gave me the black screen of death. The screen still illuminates, the touchpad is responsive, and it makes the startup sound. It also makes the charging noise when I connect it via USB-C to my new MBA. Apple said it needed a display replacement to the tune of $600... obviously not a worthwhile cost for a computer that's practically a senior citizen in tech years. I've already replaced it with a brand new MacBook Air with M2, but I'm hoping to recover some files from the broken one. Apple guy suggested I take it to a local place but warned that it could get pricy.

Is there a way to do this at home? The broken one has a bunch of game save files I really don't want to lose. I've already tried all the different key combinations to "wake it up" and can confidently say I will never get beyond the glowing black screen, but if there is some way to access the data that is still on there, I really want to.

I did connect the two devices via USB-C when setting up the new MBA, but it didn't seem to register any connection. Google hasn't been super helpful given that most help guides assume you can still operate the old MacBook. Any suggestions?

ETA: Between Apple, my tech-savvy brother, and me, none of us know why I suddenly got the BSOD. But, my partner did spill some water across the keyboard 4-6 weeks ago. Of course I immediately dried it as much as possible. It functioned normally for several weeks after that. The BSOD showed up about a week ago, and my last use of it prior to that was about two weeks earlier, at which time it worked like normal. Never had any issues that indicated it might be on its way out.

Bonus question: if my only option is to take it into a shop, what kind of cost am I looking at if I want to retrieve maybe 75-100gb of files?

So far, you can still buy movies via itunes Movies and also see whether movies are available in 4K. This is supposed to disappear with the new central app for movies, series and so on. But it's complete crap. Regardless of whether I have Paramount+ or Disney+ installed or not, movies that are available on it first refer to the streaming service. I can then buy the movie from Apple, but the page shows me the technical data of the streaming service. So often only HD, although the movie is available in 4K on itunes. So I have to look on cheapcharts to see what's available for me. I don't want to be referred to the streaming services. I want to switch it off, but I can't. I love my Apple Tv, but the interface is getting worse and worse. And I still can't sort my purchased movies. Does Apple actually read the wishes of users?

Today I shot a picture with my iPhone 13. It was taken from within the Signal app. When I looked at it on the computer I noticed those white dots on the wall on the right. So, my alarms for work keep getting turned off.

I will set my alarms the night before, but when I wake up in the middle of the night to double check them, all my alarms are off.

Hello, does anyone know how the iPhone determines location other than through GPS?

The thing is, recently when I turned on automatic time zone detection in settings, my time was set to Los Angeles even though I live on another continent. How could this happen? I need to do the same thing but with a different country. I've tried changing the region in iphone and app store, put proxies, but still the country is not what I need.

Fake GPS via 3utools is not suitable, as I somehow managed without it.

Disabling GPS in the settings also does not help, starts an endless wait.

Who didn't get it, I somehow changed the region so that even the iPhone thought I was actually in the US.

I’ve recently mistakenly found that you can do the 10 sec forward and backward with a click like u can do on the other platforms on YouTube (the double tap to forward or backward 10 secs) but I don’t know how does that work on Apple TV I’ve just misclicked it and it happened.

Unfortunately, I was one of the victims of the three-colored (rainbow) screen replacement issue and sadly my LCD needs to be replaced. I contacted apple and from where I came from, it's very expensive. I opt out a cheaper option: acquired an lcd from a working iPhone 13 mini that and replaced it with my own.

I brought it to the first technician to replace my LCD. The LCD did not work on the first tries, but on frequent tries it turned on, before it did not work again. I already asked help from other technician in our local place but they concluded that the LCD that I bought might be defective from the start.

Is it really that? I witnessed how the LCD from the other mini was removed and was safely shipped. It did turn on momentarily meaning the LCD might not be damaged during shipment.

My device got updated to ios 17.1. Is it possible that my phone rejected the LCD coz of the update? Do I need to downgrade?

I purchased an ATV 4K 3rd gen in Black Friday. I have downloaded and logged into Hulu, Prime Video, Max, and Disney+ but none of them are listed under "connect to TV" in settings. I have already tried unplugging the ATV to restart it. How do I get the apps to connect?

Here’s why:

1. keyboard lag is so bad on my iPhone 13 that I have simply stopped typing on the phone and text from my laptop now since WhatsApp desktop is available. I can be typing the second word by the time it is registering the first word. (Asked my apple fanboy friend, it’s “just a glitch”)

2. The camera lag ughhh. The camera has so much lag. Today I had to capture a couple of shots. I opened the camera. Took a shot. The app hanged. It crashed. The photo wasn’t saved. I missed the shot. Anyways I tried it again for a different shot. The camera crashed. The photo wasn’t saved. So I just exited the app with the gesture to go straight to the home screen. I am done with the gesture and picked up my finger. The app is still opened. About a second later, the app closes and it looks like it is closing in 15 fps. (Asked my apple fanboy friend, it’s “just a glitch”)

3. I barely get 4 hours of screen time on my new iPhone 13 (5 months old). I asked my apple fanboy friend. His reply: no android will give you 4 hours of screen time on a 3300 mAH battery. Okay I accept. But what good is that doing me? I don’t care how much better my phone is giving me in how less. I couldn’t care less if there’s a 5000 mAH battery or 3300 mAH battery. All I want is at least 6-7 hours of battery life. And the charging. My phone heats up so much when charging from apple official 20 watt charger. It automatically stops charging randomly saying iPhone is too hot. Put it to charge overnight. Woke up to 50% charge saying that my iPhone was too hot. All night? In 17 degrees Celsius? (Asked my apple fanboy friend, it’s “just a glitch”)

4. Calling is so bad. I’m not even going to talk about the new caller screen because everyone knows it shows iPhones as good but those who are on android it looks horrible. Either set up manually or look at the horrible caller screen of android users. There is no tone response when the call is cut I could talk for a couple minutes before noticing the call has been cut. And I absolutely hate it when I’m going to cut a call myself but the person I’m talking to cuts the call just a split second before i tap so it goes straight to the recents screen and I end up calling any contact which was there below the cut call button. Another thing when I receive calls sometimes the slider to pick it up doesn’t work. I thought it was my screen guard. My apple fanboy friends iPhone also does the same thing. (Asked my apple fanboy friend, it’s “just a glitch”)

5. Notifications are horrible and we all know it. And of-course that’s a glitch too.

6. The new notification sounds cannot be changed. My phone is kept in front of me and I wouldn’t notice if my notification sound rings. And the haptics are so weak I couldn’t feel the vibration of the notification either. I miss so many important notifications all the time from apps and their sounds cannot be changed so I’m stuck with it. Same with calls why is the sound so low and the vibrations so weak. It takes me so long to notice i am getting a call. (Asked my apple fanboy friend, it’s “just a glitch”)

7. UI is very slow now after iOS 17 and makes surfing the phone very unpleasant as it randomly stutters. (Asked my apple fanboy friend, it’s “just a glitch”)

8. The control centre has never operated over 20 fps and its very visible (Asked my apple fanboy friend, it’s “just a glitch”)

9. ANDROID DOES NOT HAVE GREEN BUBBLES IT’S THE IPHONES THAT HAVE GREEN BUBBLES. Don’t believe me? Let’s perform an experiment. Tell your iPhone friend to turn off iMessages in their phones. I don’t really care for glitches. Every OS has glitches. The problem is that iOS glitches interfere with everyday experience much more and make the entire experience worse. I was harassed into buying an iPhone from every single thing online. I’m a student. I saved up for so long just so that I could feel included into things. It was a total waste of money. I can’t return it either since it’s been over 5 months. The solution I was told for each was to disable some features and here I have ended up without using location, haptics, any unique features that make an iPhone, an iPhone. This phone is not even half worth of what I paid. Currently I’m switching back to the older android phone from which I upgraded. Waiting to see if this issue will be resolved or I’ll have to sell the phone to get back what money I can still get from it.

What’s the best way to clear an iPhone temporarily? Can I just back up to iCloud and reset, and redownload the back up when done?

I accidentally threw my phone really hard while fixing my bed. I threw my pillow when my phone followed and slipped out of my hand, falling real hard. A small crack in the lcd was found after I picked it up so I just changed the tempered glass. After a while, I noticed that the crack was getting longer. After I woke up, the crack has reached the edge of the screen. I’m really nervous if I drop this again it may not work anymore. I hate second hand phones so much!
