I have a 13 Pro Max on Verizon and my 5G/LTE becomes completely unusable during random times throughout the day, to the point I can't even run a speed test, or even send a text or iMessage. It will just say sending for 15+ minutes. Turning airplane mode on and off fixes it for a minute but it always slows back down again.

Is it just because I'm on Verizon's "unlimited" plan? It's 50Gb of "premium" high speed data, and I use around 50Gb every three months or so, so the limit isn't an issue. The data plan description says it will be slower during high capacity times, which could be completely randomly and I would have no way of knowing.

I'm right outside a major US city most of the time so I'm not in a remote location.

The Vision Pro will have an H2 chip inside, which, when paired with the 2nd Generation AirPods Pro (which is also powered by the H2 chip) , will be able to do ultra low-latency lossless audio. When the Vision Pro was first announced with this chip, I thought it would be a no-brainer for Apple to start including it in future Pro products. After all, low-latency lossless audio is pretty important for audio professionals. But the iPhone 15 Pro wasn't announced with the H2 chip, and now the new M3 MacBook Pros weren't announced with it either. This feature would help them sell more AirPods Pros, so I don't see why they haven't started doing it yet.

Apple released new SoCs and refreshed devices previously equipped with M1 and M2 but nothing really changed. The price points are the same, the configurations for the most part are the same. With ever increasing competition from chip and device makers Apple isn't really taking any aggressive moves on the market.

Their existing "audience" is very profitable for them, but should they be more aggressive to try gain noticeably more users or stick to their own niche only?

It's unlikely they get more power-users from outside the ecosystem that will look at 16-32+GB RAM 1TB storage models and compare the prices. And by now most entry-level 256/8 users are likely already bought-in and will be at best upgrading to a newer M-number if given an opportunity.

On the other side of device makers we have brands that aren't recognized by the global market yet trying to enter it by offering a better value or usually a unique form of some existing value.

GPD released their Win Max 2 10,1" laptop or Win 4 handheld gaming device powered by Ryzen 7840U which isn't that far off from Apple silicon... yet the 10,1 laptop comes with up to 64GB 7500MT/s LPDDR5x RAM and two M.2 PCIe x4 4.0 SSDs (2280 and 2230) at like $1200. Not to mention having external OCuLink port for PCIe connectivity (eGPU and alike).

Even Asus is creating new form factors like their ROG Flow Z13 gaming tablet that followed their 13" and 16" X13/X16 convertibles, also with custom eGPU capabilities and much less RAM upselling (although 13" 32GB is rare). Z13 tablet with mobile RTX 4050 got really good reviews.

And when you want something cheap, but not really plastic or Chromebook then for example Chuwi can get you covered. Check for example Chuwi Minibook X which is 10,51" mini laptop/convertible with entry level Intel chips in slick metal case. Not perfect, but really good for the money. And they have bigger, more standard ones too.

Nettop market is also growing. Minisforum and Chinese brands releasing designs with latest Intel or AMD chips, some with dGPU, some already with OCuLink or unique small form factors. Not to mention I/O. You need a cheap fanless home storage devices with 2.5GBit Ethernet then Aliexpress has you covered ;)

And the pro-sumer business laptops sold in similar-to-Apple prices tend to come with 3-year warranty and more consumer friendly features like on-site/next-business day or attempts to upsell new device instead of repairing existing one. And Qualcomm new chips will likely end up here as well with Microsoft seemingly working on Windows 12 around them to make WoA less dead :)

Will those rumored cheap Macbooks be "exciting" 4/128GB? Or should it be M-some-number in less space-grey cases but for example with user upgradable storage and RAM? Less speed here and there, less stylish but devices for a new audience to grow the user base. (and it needs RGB!)

So i have a 2019 mac right before they started with the M1's. In theory my battery should last 4-7 hours according to online. I downloaded coconut battery and I seem to be between 80-85% design capacity on my batter. However, even with JUST chrome open (admittedly a lot of tabs) I only last two hours until my computer dies. Shouldnt it be lasting at LEAST 4? or is chrome really THAT taxing. Its almost the same wear as when I do music production in Ableton with the fans blasting constantly lol. I wanted to get a new battery but then coconut battery says im only 20 percent off so is it really gonna get me even to the 4 hour mark getting a new battery? I doubt it tbh. I feel like to reach the advertised numbers it needs literally two of these batteries working in tandem

I’ve seen a few posts here and there raving about the Apple TV box but it’s always occurred to me what’s so special about it?

A lot of my products are Apple and I’m starting to try and build a smart home (nothing crazy) but I have Sonos, Nest etc and I’m wondering what an Apple TV can offer me. I’ve read a few blogs but nothing seems to scream out at me.

Smart TV’s seem to have a lot of streaming apps and I gather I can AirPlay to it. One thing that I did find interesting though, I saw someone comment earlier that you can just chuck your AirPods on and it seemlessly connects (albeit very rare I’d need to actually do this, like it was suggested if the other half wanted to go to sleep I could carry on and watch tv with my AirPods).

What are the other worthwhile benefits?

Is there anyway to switch the SOS button? When working out, it presses against the back of my hand and randomly goes off, it’s very annoying.

When my Nike watch series 5 updated, I went from getting at least a full days use to completely dead in under 6 hours. Did all the basic troubleshooting and texted support. They set up a call and Apple support once again agreed that I’ve done everything. Sending it in to get checked out. My wrist feels so naked after years of wearing it daily lol. I’ve got apple care on the watch, but it’s an old watch. Anyone have any idea on what normally happens with situations like this?

Hi, so I’m thinking about getting a MagSafe stand for my desk setup. I just bought the moft tripod MagSafe wallet but it’s not sturdy enough. I’m thinking about getting the twelve south forte ($40) since it doesn’t come with MagSafe puck i will have to get that as well so another ($40) if I am gonna spend $80 isn’t it better to just get the nomad stand one ?

Hi,

I would like to buy an Apple TV and I would like your expertise.
I currently using a shield TV, I like it, but for several weeks, it crashed way too often.
I don't do a lot of things with it, mostly streaming Netflix, YouTube, disney+, etc.

My question is, how is it with VLC on Apple TV, I didn't find a lot of things about it except from streaming from a PC. I don't do that, I just want to use my NAS.

I also don't like Plex server, I just send videos from my PC/iPad/iPhone to my NAS and want to see them on the TV.

Also, can we send files directly from the iPhone to the Apple TV?

Thank you for your help ;)

Had the phone for less than 30 days and somehow the woven USB C charger is already broken lol. This is giving me flashbacks to like the iphone 5s and the shitty cables from the time. Anyone else charger broken? Or on their second cable?

I've been a no case - guy for years now, i just like the slimmer feel of phones without a case.

Accidents (especially smaller ones) can happen fast and after hearing about skins from dbrand and other brands for years now, i finally ordered one i like.

https://preview.redd.it/eis4xzrzwjxb1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=94ee20322bd24089a1dd650e37c41cfa038b4baa

While a skin can't give the level of protection a case does, it is enough for me. I take good care of my stuff and a skin gives me the minimum protection against scratches and minor hits.

A completely bare phone still feels better (metal vs plastic) but i think it looks dope, makes the iphone more interesting and unique, while also providing some protection, which is cool.

It feels unusual for the first few hours, but after 2 or 3 days i think i like it !

Anybody here that uses a skin as well? Would love to see!

Now let's see Paul Allen's phone skin ...

cheers!

Hi all,

Unfortunately my iPhone was stolen from me during a recent vacation. I turned on the lost mode within an hour of it being lost. I had a question - I have been getting several "someone has tried to login from xyz area" from my iPad over the last day since I lost my phone (two factor authentication requests). I changed my apple password last night to be safe, but I'm wondering what this signifies. Does the person who stole my phone have my apple password? Thanks!

Hi, I just created a second watch face for navigation, with compass, maps, and tides on the Sun Dial face. Being battery obsessed, I’d like to know if these complications and the watch face will be taxing the battery when they are not visible as the second face. Thanks!

My dad recently gifted me an iPad Pro and it has easily become the device that I use the most. I mark up a ton of PDFs, take notes on it, and do digital art. I use an Android phone and a Windows PC but haven't ran into any major problems so far except for file sharing being an inconvenience. My dad also asked if I'd like to switch ecosystems and I initially declined. Was told that it would make switching between tasks on my devices significantly easier. Would it be worth it to switch to an iPhone when I'm due for my next upgrade? I don't want to give up a dedicated file manager and sideloading but was wondering if the trade off in increased productivity would make up for it. Would there even be a major difference?

I’ve been reading a lot about the 15 promax recently with people saying that it’s very fragile this morning. I lost my temper in full on full force chucked my 14 Pro Max across the room. It’s slammed into the floor picked it up. Not a scratch I’m not usually one to throw my phone, but I’m surprised there was not a scratch on it, after hearing all the comments on the 15 Pro Max, I feel this one probably would’ve been dead forever🤣
