Google says that it is possible to update XR to iOS17. Apple employee told me that it is possible also. I watched and followed tutorials on how to update OS but I still couldn’t find the iOS17 update installer. I even followed the instructions on beta.apple(.)com but still couldn’t find the installer. Now I’m stucked at 16.7

Why do I need to update? Planning to buy a watch. Please help this clueless man.

I was in class and a girl next to me who had an iPhone 12 Pro and a MacBook starts talking to me about how Apple changed the charging port to USB-C. She said that Apple always wants to have the latest technology and now everyone is going to try to copy them and use USB-C also. I cant stand apple sheep.

What are your best stories of dumb apple sheep?

Despite owning most models since launch in 2007 and upgrading from 14 pro to 15 pro, I’m really enjoying this gen iPhone.

Not too sure if it’s the feel of the titanium, the improved aperture on the camera or finally having USB C , this phone feels like it’s really ticking all the boxes now compared to previous generations.

Sure there have been better and bigger updates (e.g iPhone 4, iPhone X) but as a device in your hands, the 15 has been a real joy compared to previous updates.

Thoughts?

Has anyone else noticed missing frames or frame jumps when watching 24Hz 4K content since the 17.1 update?

I always have match framerate & dynamic range set to on. And I've always had nice smooth playback. But since 17.1 I've noticed some jerkiness especially on pans – it shows up as a slight pause or jump about every 4 or 5 seconds.

I was showing my mom a new recipe on my iPhone, and right in the middle, a full-screen pop-up ad of some horned up dating sim game hijacked the moment. I get that some apps solely rely on ads for revenue but idgaf if you’re showing these two bit ads on my whole screen, I’m gonna do my utter best to block that shit.

I’m feeling super petty and I need a good ad blocker, but I don’t even know if there are those for ios(?). I’ve looked up some older threads on here and I’ve seen Adguard and Wipr recommended with some mixed reviews.

Idk if these are good though, and if I’m missing some other option? Ideally something not taxing enough that makes my phone beg for its life. Please help me feel vindicated

Is Siri doing this to anyone else in their car today? That was not happening yesterday and it’s not very safe either.

I've owned Otterbox, Limitless, LifeProof, Apple, and a few other cases. Catalyst was by far the worst with respect to both product design and returnability.

Problems: The camera cannot focus during the night/low light (it is useless), no one can hear you on speakerphone unless you undo the charging port cover, when you are on speaker the proximity sensor is constantly triggered (sensor that locks your iPhone if it is against your face during a call) making it impossible to use the number pad or search something on google when on a phone call, the silent mode button is constantly triggered on and off on its own, and the plastic screen protector bubbles up easily and makes it difficult for the iPhone to register a finger tap. This is after a couple of weeks of use.

In order to return, Catalyst has gone through an arduous troubleshooting process to try and fix my issues, had me fill out an extensive RMA form, send pictures, and go back and forth via email for weeks. I have asked multiple times to just send me instructions to return the case but they won't do it. Even after the return the case has to be in new condition (understandable), they charge a restocking fee (minimum 5% but subject to be more), you pay for shipping, and you must include the original packaging.

TLDR: The Catalyst Total Protection for iPhone 13 pro max is garbage and their team makes it impossible to return the case. In the unlikely event you can return the case, they charge you a ton of fees. The worst case I have ever used and the worst return experience I have ever gone through.

My wife has a TikTok/YouTube account for our dogs, and currently has a 13 base. She films and edits everything on it, and due to this, she’s been running out of storage. This weekend we’re going to upgrade her phone and get more storage, but can’t decide which to get. Most of the filming is just getting clips of the dogs doing whatever inside and maybe 5% of the time outside. I personally don’t think we need the pro camera’s features.

I have read that the camera on the 15 is good, but is it so much more better than the 14 for what I’d call “basic”filming of the dogs to where that alone is worth it?

I should mention that while the 14 is cheaper by a little bit now, we also wouldn’t need to worry about purchasing a bunch of usb c cables as we seem to have lightning cables everywhere around the house.

In short, the 13 she has battery health is pretty beaten, she needs more storage, and wondering if she’s really going to be able to take advantage of the 15’s few extra features.

I wake up a lot and stay awake for extended periods of time, but just lay there and try to be as close to sleep / resting as possible. The sleep metrics report pretty much all of that time as core sleep. I don’t think it’s capturing all the times I wake up either, but my main complaint in laying awake for an hour and apple counting that as sleep time.

Just curious if other people are getting metrics they feel are accurate?

Hiii, since i bougth a scooter my apple watch has been tracking that as i were riding bike, and it does automaticallly, anyone know how to customize that and stop mi watch to track rides that i dont want?

I have an Apple Watch SE 2. Its battery health is 81%. I put my watch when I wake up at 6:30 AM. Sometimes my watch needs to be recharged at 12 PM and other times when I go to sleep at 10:30 PM. Both cases I am in the same 50 sq yrd at work. Any idea why I would have such a varied power use?

Hey guys, I’ve seen a few other posts on Reddit and around the internet but they always seem to get dismissed.

A couple months ago, my iPhone died and when I powered it back on it WOULD NOT accept my PIN to unlock. This is the same PIN that I have had since I got my first iPhone back in 2010, there is no possible way it would have been forgotten or changed.

Now, just a few days ago the same exact thing happened to my friend! Same deal, they’ve had the same exact PIN for years, phone died and suddenly would no longer accept it.

In both of our instances the only thing we could do was a complete restore at an Apple Store.

So I just wanted to remind everyone to back up your iCloud and also ask people here to speculate with me a bit on what could cause something like this.

Personally, I think the phone dying has something to do with resetting some hardware in the phone where the PIN is stored locally. Maybe the low voltage?

What do you guys think?

I achieved this with custom icons set and some photo editing apps and used shortcut app as well. All without jailbreak. I am running iOS 17. 😎

Noticed the battery was getting eaten up by Chrome, so I decided to look for another Chromium based browser that was more efficient, settled on Thorium. Definitely appears to load pages in faster, but still I am unsure if it really is more efficient in terms of battery usage.

Anecdotally speaking, I'm pretty certain Microsoft Edge is the least resource intensive browser but I'd rather die.

It’s sucks. It’s literally terrible. I’ve tried everything, turning off different things and whatever. It edits my photos, looks like garbage, I can’t take a single photo in dim lighting. If there’s anything I can do please let me know.

I don’t remember it being released but can't find any information about it other than a few old articles from 2009. No videos on YouTube except the one I linked and no way to purchase it anywhere

I am transferring data to my new 15 Pro. On my old handset, in settings it shows around 5,000 songs downloaded.

When I count the songs downloaded in Apple Music, meticulously… more than once 🫠 There is only 4,200.

Any ideas where the rest would be?

For context, as Apple Music doesn’t transfer downloads to your new device groan I’m required to create a playlist with every downloaded track in it and then “download all” from that playlist on the new phone.
