I recently switched my mom to use IMAP instead of POP on her devices. She has an iPhone, iPad and a Windows PC. Moved all local mail to the Comcast servers and recreated them on each device. They are all setup as IMAP. Outlook on the PC is fine. It downloads copies of all the emails on the server including like 11k of sent messages. The iPhone and iPad download "stuff" however the sent log is kind of odd.

In the send log it will download say 3k of messages which seems to be some kind of limit. Seems to download mostly oldest first (2010 on) and a few from the last couple days and one from 2016. Then later I can go into the Send area and nothing happens. Like no additional downloading of sent messages. I start scrolling down the list of sent messages and eventually it will start downloading again. Not all of them but another group. Two things can happen at this point. Either the added messages will stick if I follow a process of "go out of sent to the inbox, close the app, launch the app and go back to sent". OR, doing that it will start refreshing and all those messages just downloaded will start going away as I watch it and be left with the messages initially downloaded. Over time it will download a bit more but not sure what's happening here.

I've even seen where messages from 2023 show up at some point and I can click on them but again go out and in again and they visually start disappearing from the sent folder.

Then a popup says cannot play video. Before this when I’m navigating to the video everything looks fine. Do I need to do updates to the Apple TV? How do I do this? I hardly use it because it’s in my guest room. My phone is updated.

Anyone ever have an issue with their rings not moving? Specifically the stand ring? The other rings are moving just fine. I’ve turned it off and turned it back on. I’ve turned my phone off and turned that back on. I’ve unpaired and paired it again (don’t ask me to do that again, problems on the last one). And I’ve recalibrated. I’m more than likely going to have to upgrade which is fine as it’s a series 3.

I bought a 7 series 45mm from a friend of mine, the battery health was %100, it went down to %88 in a matter of 2 months, is this normal? I don't really wear the watch a lot nor have features/complications/work outs on I just have a normal nike digital watch and check my notifications on it, and I don't usually stress dead batteries but I hear the battery can't be changed in those right? It's still under the warranty tho

My household is all Apple so I've been trying hard to adapt to the iphone UI. It's critical for me to be able to use my phone quickly using only my right hand. Coming from an s21 Ultra which is a huge phone it was no problem. My 15 pro is much smaller but I seem to have hit something I may not be able to adapt to:

Back navigation often requires pressing a arrow in the top left or bottom left of the screen my thumb can't reach. It seems apple is aware of this with the advent of the reachability gesture but this is still difficult, has extra steps, and completely disrupts what you see. The back swipe feature requires the user to start from the far left side of the screen farther than my thumb can comfortably reach.

I have a skiers thumb so crazy huge thumb reaches all day are problematic.

The volume and action buttons being on the top left of the phone present similar right handed usability problems.

It's almost as if the phone is designed to be held in the left hand and used two handed?

I figured I would simply adapt to a new UI. Am I crazy and just need more time to adapt? Or is iOS seriously difficulty to use solo right handed?

I love everything else about the phone other than the thickness making reaching those far corners harder where they put the navigation farthest from you thumb.

The lack of a consistent back gesture or feature easily reachable from the right lower part of the phone is kind of mind boggling.

I guess this originated from two ideas? Keeping the UI consistent over the years and they started like a web browser with the back arrows in the top left... but phones are huge now. It's unreachable. The second Apple wanted to not have a back option as it's action would not me consistent in every situation and would create "Trust" issues. However their own back gesture, does different things in different apps now anyway.

As I imagine a lot of users need to use their phone one handed it seems like a really bad decision from a UI standpoint or is there something I'm missing?

Will I adapt or is the phone legitimately a lost cause if you need fast one handed use from the right hand?

I like to see how phones resist the passage of time to understand how Apple updates and selects the phones that will not receive a new iOS update, so you guys think an iPhone 13 is future proof like an iPhone 14 or they will be discontinued at the same time?

Knowing the X model is no longer updating to new iOS versions, in 2024 we should see the XR, XS and maybe, MAYBE, the 11 losing support to newer updates.

WatchOS 9.whatever the latest. I downgraded from a S6 about 4 months ago because the S6 was having issues and all my local store could offer was a SE2 and $75 so i took it.

How long would a brand new 13 pro max last?

she just straight up doesn't do things that were previously possible, and that includes the most basic stuff, setting a reminder is a struggle for siri, i ask the to set an alarm for 8 and she starts playing a song named "8"

she doesn't even respond half the time, i just get interrupted by a "hmmm?" and she doesn't listen to the rest of what was said, its exhausting how bad siri really is

I am a Data Science Student and looking to change my system, macbook pro m3 is currently at $1449 at best buy. Previously I was planning to buy m2 15”(16gigs,512) but the price are same. So, for the same price if I am getting new m3 chip, is it better to buy m3? Is 8gigs enough? Or should I spend more and buy 18gigs m3 pro? Is 8gigs enough for data science related programs? Help me out

I just purchased a used iOS device that came with someone else’s SIM card still in it. I went through and moved my data over to the device and used it for a while before noticing. Once I did notice, I removed it and reset my AppleID.

Is there any security risk in this? Is there anything someone could have done with their SIM card in my device? For instance using phone number authentication to reset other passwords, etc.?

So I have researched a lot in the last 30 days (I was hoping for some black Friday deal, but that's not available through my company portal), but I still struggle to decide.

Some facts:

  1. Camera is nice to have, but I have a professional camera that I use on trips. So the phone camera would be more on a daily "have to take the shot now".
  2. The difference from 13 base to 15 pro is 500 USD.
    1. Keep in mind that this is equivalent to half of what remains of my salary after basic bills (rent, groceries etc)
  3. USB C is nice, but most of the time I will charge with magsafe
  4. 120hz would be one of the main benefits for me
  5. I have an iPad pro in case I need more "processing power"
  6. Can only change phone every 3 years
  7. 13 Pro or 14 Pro are not an option, since they are not available on where I have to buy

So in your view, is it worth to upgrade from 11 to 13 base - and keep this 500 USD to invest somewhere - or should I go straight for 15 pro?

So I have the Amazon Prime video app on my AppleTV and iPhone. If I go to my account details, it shows as being paid for through my subscriptions, along with Apple Music etc.

My Amazon account doesn’t recognise me as a Prime member when shopping etc. I use a gmail address for my Amazon account and a mac.com email address for my Apple ID.

How do I get the two linked?

I’ve recently bought an older Apple TV box and been trying to hook it up but all it shows is this? Any ideas?

I have been using apple products for a long time now, and it seems that for every apple product I buy I manage to find a flaw. whether its iPhones that have scratches and chips out of the box, iPads with uneven tone of the display (one area water than the other), or a MacBook with the lid shifted compared to the base. my experience is that no apple product will be perfect out of the box, and that trying to get a replacement is not worth the hassle as the replacements as well are not perfect out of the box. and lets not talk about fiascos like the butterfly keyboard which was kept alive for way too long.

now, if it was a mid-range tech company, where the products were cheaper, that would have made sense, but the apple brand is synonymous with quality and luxury, and for the price they charge for their products - wouldn't it have made sense to accept no less than perfection? to expect more rigorous quality control?

maybe people who have insight on how apple and similar companies do quality control can shed some light on that, and on why the end result often doesn't seem to match Apples reputation?

While browsing the internet do iPhones save recordings of you?

Like my old iPhone 8+, is it possible that someone could’ve hacked it and went back and got photos and videos or audio to go along side by side with what I was looking at online at the time?
