The visual cuisine for this Monday night is more anime with the tv series Cyber City Oedo 808 and another Pokemon movie. Cyber City is about three convicts on an orbital prison being offered the chance to help the police in a futuristic city while wearing collars that can kill them.

Pokemon is about toys, trading cards, and a few characters that don't get enough screen time. I don't really know what any of the movies have been about. "This is the first film in the series to not have Team Rocket get involved with the plot," bleak.

I might post more of these Japanese "vibe words" sometimes. I'm going to make wholesome posts far more often. I need breaks from Hellworld and its ever breaking horrible news.

Japanese sound symbolism

The Japanese language has a large inventory of sound symbolic or mimetic words, known in linguistics as ideophones. Such words are found in written as well as spoken Japanese. Known popularly as onomatopoeia, these words do not just imitate sounds but also cover a much wider range of meanings; indeed, many sound-symbolic words in Japanese are for things that make no noise originally, most clearly demonstrated by 'silently' (しーんと, shīnto), not to be confused with the religion Shintō.

Bluesky is buggy and it keeps resetting my languages to "English, Japanese". I finally got tired of fixing it every time and I decided to roll with it. For some reason Bluesky has a surprising number of posts in Japanese.

Question 1: Should I cross post them? I could put it in c/food. Or is that more spammy than useful?

Question 2: Is there a better place to put them than c/anime? Should I use c/LanguageLearning instead?

For this edition of Saturday Anime Night, the people demanded more Sailor Moon, and so, we’re continuing on, with episodes 133 through 138 of the 1992 series, the definitive magical-girl anime. This is the completely unabridged, unexpurgated, uncensored, Japanese version of the show, including everything that the English dub butchered, altered, and/or cut, which is quite a bit. Tonight’s episodes see the continuation of the SuperS arc, which focuses particularly on Chibiusa and her silly aatics, as well as the bad guy’s various attempts to obtain Pegasus.

After that is Mystery of the Third Planet (1981), a surreal Soviet sci-fi about a space expedition who collects weird cosmic animals to return to the Moscow Zoo, only to discover that some asshole has been killing a bunch of birds. Time to rescue the birds. This is considered one of the best pieces of Soviet animation, and arguably the magnum opus of director Roman Kachanov, who is otherwise best-known for the stop-motion shorts Gena the Crocodile (1969) and Cheburashka (1971). Looks neat; let’s check it out.

Finally, for anyone who is still awake afterward, we’ll watch the thirteenth Pokemon movie, Pokemon: Zoroark: Master of Illusions (2010). We're over halfway through these now.

We’ll start 8PM EST on Hextube right here: https://live.hexbear.net/c/movies

Be there, comrades!

I've been looking forward to Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction's anime adaptation, especially since I'm allergic to reading manga. Subs aren't great but ah well, we work with what we've got, hopefully fansubbers pick it up.

Don't watch ep 0 tho apparently it's spoilers.

@@@@This comes from above: it's strongly recommended to use a VPN for cytube. @@@@ There was a thread recently about vpns and a few you should explicitly avoid.

The visual cuisine for tonight will be a bunch of microwaved anime. Due to overwhelming popular demand there will be reruns of Saturday's Sailor Moon eps 127-132 at ~7pm est. Sailor Moon is an anime about a group of friends being granted magical powers and fighting various baddies through the power of friendship.

After that will be Appleseed (1988) at ~9pm est, an anime movie about a pig and her cyborg partner combating cyber terrorists in a post-ww3 city as they begin to question who is in the right.

Finally we will watch another Pokemon movie: Pokemon - Lucario and the Mystery of Mew (2005).. Hopefully Team Rocket is in it.
