I wanna be able to record on my android tablet from my USB microphone and so simple edits. Basically so I can podcast on the go.

Do you recommend some good app to do that?

Can anyone recommend an app that will automatically send SMS to my wife several times a day? Preferably at non-set intervals (so she doesn't get it every day at exactly noon) and randomly selected "I love you", "Your the best" etc. so I can focus on my work and still have her happy that she feels thought of throughout the day?

Good evening,

I print many shipping labels (PDF Files) and on PC I use photoshop to merge them in a new A4 to save space and sheets.

Is there any app on Android that can do something similar?

Thank you

So I went through Discord's mandatory name change, and since then, the Android app doesn't do notifications for anything.

I was using an older version of the app, and since I needed to log in anyway (I had forgotten the password), I used the opportunity to wipe the app's data. But I set everything back, checked all settings, disabled and enabled everything again, and eventually uninstalled the app completely and installed the latest version. No Discord notifications.

I disabled battery optimisations, and my phone does not kill background apps. All my other messenger apps work fine.

Also, upon first launch, the app does show one "Google Play Availability" notification, so it's obviously still capable of doing so.

I'm out of ideas. Suggestions? Anyone had this experience after changing the name?

Could Discord support be of any help?

Do you have any recommendations for good parcel tracking apps? Ideally, it should support Material You theming.

Hi to all the community, a month ago bought a Fire tablet and installed KO Reader to work (more often to highlight ideas in the books). My doubt is, how can I configure to save the highlight parts while I'm working? Only find the possibility of exit from the document to save ..

I'm going on a trip soon and trying to get myself some things to do. What Android games should I play? Obviously not some cash grab games but something proper. My most played games are Kerbal Space Program, Minecraft, Stormworks, Red dead Redemption 2, Forza Horizon 5, Farming Simulator 19 and 22 and BeamNG. I'm thinking of Pokemon Fire Red on some emulator. Other suggestions?

There are two great apps for this I've found for Android: DreamLab and BOINC. Android devices are great because they are some of the most efficient-per-watt computation available, and cost anywhere from 25 cents to a few dollars to run per year depending on your device and power cost.

BOINC is a network of many different projects, you can pick and choose which you want, just install the BOINC app and attach to the projects you want. It's a tad more complicated than DreamLab but way more powerful. There's medical research (World Community Grid), space research (Einstein@home, Asteroids@home, Milkyway@home), math research, and more. Note that the version in the play store is basically non-functional, you'll need to download from F-droid.

Note that many Android phones are not designed to effectively vent heat from 100% CPU usage constantly. Both of these apps allow you some degree of control over CPU usage, I generally set my devices to 50%. To be safe, remove batteries while these devices are running. It will help preserve battery life, increase power usage efficiency, and important will prevent your battery from becoming a dangerous swollen fire pillow.

I’m thinking of migrating to grapheneos from ios, what are some things that I should be aware of? Keep in mind, I haven’t used android in about 3 or 4 years and have basically been using an iPhone since the 3GS. Any heads up or tips would be helpful. I’m just really tired of apples new business model and current executives, and am trying to move to all free software. Thanks in advanced.

Recently got the Pixel 7 Pro, but the keyboard on this thing is wack. I liked the Samsung keyboard because you could long press most letters to get a special character.

What's the best keyboard for Android?

I'm starting too see more and more mainstream manufacturers use new Mediatek SOCs in their phones, I always heard about them being inefficient, did those got better nowadays?

I was a Nova Launcher user for many many years, but then Microsoft Launcher came with basically the same features as Nove and a few new killer features, so I moved to it.

But today I woke my phone up and everything was gone. My screens, widgets, folders... And even if I wanted to set everything up again, I can't because Microsoft Launcher won't start.

So... yeah, fun times. Won't be using Microsoft Launcher ever again, even if they fix it.

What are you guys using? And what killer features does you launcher of preference have that make you use it?

Before we start, let's be clear. I am not a developer. I am not selling anything. This is merely just an idea based on my own insights as a creative writer. I would love to have different opinions on this one.

Problem: It's really inconvenient to write long-form content on a smartphone. When the phone is in portrait mode, there's enough room to see all the text, but the keyboard is too tiny for extended writing sessions resulting in fatigue. When you turn the smartphone to landscape mode, two problems arise: the keyboard takes up two-thirds of the screen, making it hard to see what you're typing, and reaching the keys in the middle of the keyboard becomes difficult. Thumb mode isn't a satisfactory solution either, as it leaves a sad stupid wasted space in the middle of the split keyboard.

When writing on a smartphone, screen real estate is precious. Tablets offer a split thumb floating keyboard mode, but they are bulky, heavy, and not comfortable for long-term typing. Carrying a tablet everywhere isn't practical.

What's available: I've tried a dozen writing apps (even Joe's Termux with its high-condensed text) combined with several Android keyboards, but none come close to the experience of having a real keyboard (I prefer ortholinear split keyboards btw) attached to a smartphone for travel.

So, how can we fix the typing experience on a phone? Check these mockups.

Solution: The ideal solution would be to have a split keyboard that occupies the two top sides of the screen, with the text editor displayed in the middle. Full-screen mode to get rid of the status bar would be a plus. You would hold your phone like a Steam Deck or, even better, like the Nokia N-Gage (I know that there have been phones closer to what I'm describing, but the N-Gage is the most well-known form factor).

Additional benefits: This layout would be more comfortable to hold, similar to how you hold your phone when playing PUBG. Your index fingers would rest on the phone, and the bottom corners of the phone would fit into the palms' cavity. Achieving this would be possible since the keyboard would be positioned closer toward the top corners of the phone (remember, the phone is in landscape mode).

Some other thoughts: Perhaps combining a keyboard with a text editor is excessive. It's possible that a new type of keyboard that splits and allows you to view the text you're typing in the middle would suffice. However, it's uncertain whether this would work with every app.

Disclaimer: Please note that the following mockups provided are intended solely for illustrative purposes to convey the concept and potential user experience.

App for location based reminders/alarms?

I'm looking for a nice app that can trigger reminders or alarms when I reach a certain location or connect to a certain wifi network.

I tried "Wifi Reminders" on #FDroid
https://f-droid.org/packages/ru.glesik.wifireminders/ but it didn't work.

Ideally, it should be either open source or a one time purchase.

Thank you for any tips.
