Hey, there is now an Anarchism public group on Nostr. Nostr is a very simple protocol which aims to become the ultimate decentralized social network, already fulfilling functionality of Twitter, Reddit (not very advanced tho), Twitch, Telegram and more. It is also uncensorable.

It is also more anarchist than the fediverse because your identity there is not bound to a server/domain which can be shut down or moderated at any time.

To join the group, you have to search for this ID: nevent1qqs05w7vklg8ewh4g7u8rafp3dsvtcw3j7v9j4v7n4k5fxxewaggjdspp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqpz4mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuerpw3sju6rpw4esz9rhwden5te0dehhxarj9ehhsarj9ejx2assy2425

On Android the app Amethyst is very good. With Nostr, the client handles everything. The servers are just dumb relays which don’t need to be trusted. That’s why there are a lot of different clients. Each one is implementing different aspects of the protocol and they are always evolving.

If you want to have a peek at the group you can also check here: https://coracle.social/chat/note1lgaued7s0ja023acw86jrzmqchsar9uct92ea8tdgjvdja6s3ymqa579ar

There are a LOT of Nostr resources available and you can decide how deep you want to dive into it. A very basic and easy introduction is https://usenostr.org/ . The devs website nostr.com also does a good job of getting the point across. There is an awesome list which can point you to any Nostr related resources like which clients to use and also what other introductory guides are availabe: https://github.com/aljazceru/awesome-nostr

Popular clients including web, desktop and mobile are also described here: https://nostr.com/clients

Note that Nostr is very decentralized and that some clients implement features which other clients don’t (yet).

This video can also show you visually how the relationship between clients and relays/servers works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIccRIEr2gQ

The Prisoners Union (Serikat Tahanan) was officially assembled on July 17 2023, started by the initiatives of six inmates from six correctional institutions in Indonesia. Now, Serikat Tahanan represents eleven detainees ranging from arsoning cases, vandalism for incitement to riots, and marijuana and other types of drug use.

We have been writing, or at least learning to write, our own experiences and thoughts inside the prison. We want to publish these writings but, of course, we don’t have money. Indonesia's corrupt prison system provides inadequate food rations and forces prisoners to pay for it themselves. All these time we have been living off solidarity from comrades outside prison as it's almost impossible for us to work. Lack of funds and bribe-ridden prison conditions worsen our lives and hamper our writing project. We will use the proceeds from book sales to run the program that has been determined and run by the prisoners themselves.

Therefore we ask the international anti-authoritarian activists, anarchists, anti-fascists and abolitionist networks to stand in solidarity in our efforts to publish our writings.

People of Maui can't depend on gov't. Fed, state, & local aren't coordinating well. FEMA's holding up aid b/c they need to specifically approve every kind. People are depending on each other. Even MSM cites mutual aid as the only thing operative at this time.

In 2008, queer anarchists gathered in Chicago to plot a disruption of the electoral spectacle and cohere a network out of emergent youth crews in multiple cities. Fifteen years later, the proposals put forward then — criminality, autonomous self-defense, riots, and orgies — are needed more than ever. The intervening years have been marked by intensification — of crisis, alienation, loss, and struggle. The right wing no longer hides behind euphemisms: they want to exterminate trans and queer people. The left offers only false solutions: vote, donate, assimilate. A decade of representation, symbolic legal victories, social media activism, and mass-market saturation has left us worse off by all metrics. Our fairweather friends won’t save us from the consequences of their strategy of empty visibility. The inescapable conclusion is that we must come together to protect ourselves.

History confirms the queer legacy of building connection in a world that hates us, the legacy of riotous joy—the legacy of bashing back. The attacks will continue on our nightclubs, forests, story hours, and siblings. To hold on, we need spaces—underground if necessary—to re-encounter each other, spaces to remember, build, share, and conspire.

In this spirit, we are ecstatic to announce the return of the Bash Back convergence! Fifteen years from the original gathering, Chicago will host the 2023 convergence September 8–11. Comrades, old and new, are invited to discuss what’s still vital in the past and what’s needed in the present. In keeping with tradition, the convergence will include presentations, workshops, distros, parties, and other opportunities to make trouble.

I was "asked recently" who my favorite anarchist was, and since I didn't really hear/see much response, I got to thinking: I'd kinda like to see an opinion thread about everone's various different favorite anarchists, and why

I know we each all define the term slightly differently, so like, I went with Toussaint Louverture and Jean Jacques Dessalines, but I know there's lots of current folks that I just haven't kept up on.

Disclaimer/Nota Bene: only use safe-to-"out" responses. No like "oh, my brother hacked the IRS" that'll get "The Man" hunting us all down

I still remember my first wife

Her name was Nina, a real whore!

Queen of Cod of the Saint-Denis Plain,

She was a whore by Rivoli Street!

Chorus:

Death to the cows! Death to the prisoners [4]!

Viva the children of Cayenne! Down with the children of safety!

She was luring the client when my fate as a convict

Came knocking on her door as a rich man...

He spit on her, filled with his disdain,

Put her hand up her ass and called her a whore

Chorus

I was her boyfriend and not a cowhide,

I who in my youth took apache principles[5],

'Took out my 6.35, and a bullet through the heart

I laid him stiff dead and was caught in the hour!...

Chorus

Immediately arrested, he was led to Cayenne.

That’s when I served my penalty...

Youngs of today, don’t fuck around anymore,

Because, in a simple way, we put you in jail!

Chorus

If I die, I want to be buried

In a small town near Rue Saint-Martin,

Four hundred naked whores will cry out loud:

"It is the king of the Julots who is buried!"

Chorus (bis)

French : Je me souviens encore de ma première femme

Elle s'appelait Nina, une vraie putain dans l'âme !

La Reine des morues de la plaine Saint-Denis,

Elle faisait le tapin près la rue d'Rivoli !

Refrain :

Mort aux vaches ! Mort aux condés [4]!

Viv' les enfants d'Cayenne ! A bas ceux d'la sûr'té !

Ell' aguichait l'client quand mon destin d'bagnard

Refrain (bis)

I would like to learn more about these tendencies, can you recommend any texts that describe those?

Hi there!

I'm relatively new to anarchism, so I'd like to ask a few questions. I was very inspired by the book by F. Hayek (The Road to Serfdom) which changed my mind and convinced me why regulation doesn't work. Before this book I believed in the world trend towards regulation for the common good. Now I'm looking for a more general book on why government doesn't work at all. What can you recommend? I'm an engineer and prefer more economic and less philosophical books (like one by F. Hayek). Is there anything like that?

And more generally, what is the general opinion on private property in the anarchist community? I tried to google it but found controversial views. I know there are left-wing (Geoism/Georgism?) and right-wing (anarcho-capitalism?), but I think there should be something common about the property question...

Thanks in advance!
