AP2 minimum specs (lemmy.world)

What would be the minimum specifications/features that an Analogue Pocket 2 should have for you to buy it?

For me:

  • OpenFPGA
  • FPGA chip that can handle up to Nintendo 64
  • 6 front main action buttons (like Saturn)
  • Dual analogue sticks
  • Horizontal format
  • Dock with DAC

As an extra, I would say that I do not need cartridge slot. I have a lot of physical games, but I do not use them in my AP.

Looks like a bunch of bug fixes and some new display modes. No DAC

The price isn't great.

Just another option for people looking to buy a extender (though really consider investing learning how to build one yourself). InsideGadgets is very well known in the community for the GBxCart Flasher and their flash carts so no risks on quality in my opinion.

Disclaimer: I am the developer of the project and have not been compensated in any way from InsideGadgets.

To add context, I'm the developer of this PCB and in no way affiliated/compensated by the seller. Selling is permitted by the license so that's all cool. I do think you're better off learning basic soldering if you really care about original carts and doing fully diy, but there is now an option for buying.

Had to run the dock through a HDMI to component converter, then into a gbs control to get it to scale correctly. After that the filters look fantastic on this little display.

Wish the Super Gameboy core would be updated so it doesn't crash.

I've searched around, but the only GBA core that seems to exist is spiritualized's, which doesn't have RTC support and hasn't had a release in over a year. I was actually under the impression that RTC support in cores wasn't possible, but then budude2 just released his GB/GBC core that does have RTC support. So now I'm wondering if it's possible for GBA.

I ask because I play a ton of Pokemon ROM hacks that take advantage of time changes, and it would be nice to have some of the core features of the Pocket. For example, sleep/wake doesn't work for Everdrives, and save states / memories are iffy.

Choosing a color is too hard... but I might be leaning towards orange...

When using the dock directly, I could not use this display since the image would appear too narrow. What I had to do is use a HDMI to component converter, set the dock 480p, then run that into a Gbscontrol. Now I could scale it properly for this display. The only downside is in 480p mode, the dock has small artifacts present in the upper right of the image. Could't get downscaling to work, which would have gotten rid of the artifacts.

Unfortunately does not scale well on this tiny display and controller support is very limited.

I tried several Game Boy "# in 1" carts in the AP and none of them worked. Does anybody know what the AP is missing in order to be compatible with them?

Hi, August 2022 pre-order here [#149xxx]. As some others have, I have bought accessories for the Pocket during the seemingly standard purgatory period they put you through in having you wait for your order.

I'd like to prepare my microSD card in anticipation of receiving the Pocket soon, hopefully. What are some files I can have prepared to hit the ground running with firmware and various cores when I receive my Pocket?

I have experience with Super NT and Mega SG [thankfully bought years before shortages/final runs] but understand the Pocket's filesystem is different.

Thank you baby Jesus!

Their website claims all orders made including if made today will arrive by the end of 2023. Is there any reason to believe production will ramp to this degree by the end of the year? I have had my eyes on this product since 2019 but I've never pulled the trigger, was waiting for a guarantee of actually getting one. Not convinced they won't go bankrupt and steal my money as of yet...

Thought I'd share the status sheet made by u/cr9ball on Reddit. If you're waiting on your order, this might help you get an idea of when you can expect it to ship. And if you feel like helping out, you can share your own order status too.

Mine has to be Links awakening. Also just one of my all time favorite games.
