Welcome to /c/AmA

Want a scheduled AMA announced ahead of time? Contact Awoo directly at the bottom of this sidebar.

Please stick to one of either three post types:

A standard Ask Me Anything post.

A request post -- (What is the format and why should I make a request post?)

A gauging interest post -- (What is this?)

What is an AmA?

AmA’s or “Ask Me Anything” began on the old internet, originally AOL chatrooms, later followed by Slashdot. They are crowdsourced interviews where the interviewee first makes a post describing who they are and what they do. Commenters then leave questions and can vote on other questions according to which they would like to see answered.

The interviewee can then go through and reply to the questions they find interesting, and easily see those questions the internet is dying to have the answer too. Questions will be a mixture of radical, serious and lighthearted resulting in the kind of interview you won’t get elsewhere.

What Topics Are Allowed?

Anyone can do an Ask Me Anything. The topic of the AmA must meet the rules below, and in some cases you must provide proof of the claims you are making. Ask Me Anything topics fall into two categories:

Something that plays a central role in your life. The prime example of this is a person's job; posts about someone's occupation are almost always allowed. A person's topic should be something that they know thoroughly and is important to them; this gives them more to discuss and a more thorough background in the field.

A truly interesting and unique event. An example would be "I organised a protest against x." It's an activity that doesn't play a central role in someone's life but is so uncommon that many users would not have experiences of their own to relate to it.

AmAs should NOT be about:

Mutual-Aid and Crowd Funding - AmA submitters that include any aid or funding campaign must be eligible for an AmA without the campaign for it to be allowed. Additionally, the focus of the AmA must not be the campaign -- those posts would be more appropriate in the mutual-aid community. Posts about suicide.

Other Restrictions:

Giveaways are not permitted on AmA. Contests and giveaways already running on a third party site prior to the AmA are acceptable

Proof

Proof in the case of public figures or orgs may be a social media post on an official account. For other topics it may be a proof image. This does not always have to be included in the post at the time of posting and it may be discussed with the moderators and provided privately. We will ALWAYS respect your complete privacy.

Hey folks, I figured I'd offer an ama for people unfamiliar with how casinos work in California.

I'd planned on making this account sooner (and planned for the name to be 'Different_Kind_of_Banker, but here we are) but better late than never right?

Here are some bits of info that may help get the ball rolling on questions

  • California has specific laws against Nevada style gambling (Where the house keeps the money if you lose)

  • Tribal land is exempt from those laws due to a court case over bingo halls on reservations in the 1980s (yes people were that aggressive about the small bits of money people got)

  • Casinos in California and not tribal lands are technically called card rooms. No slot machines are allowed and instead of getting the money from losses, it goes to a third party person called a banker. These third parties came up to circumvent the laws against Nevada gambling. So in the eyes of the law, card rooms aren't taking people's money. They are just hosting a place where they can gamble with each other's money and they have to pay for the space to use.

  • This workaround uses third party workers called bankers who offer up the money of the corporation to allow for gambling to take place. Players can play without a banker, but they have to use their own money.

  • I am a banker and I hate everything about the environment and feel like a gross person every time I come into work.

  • The customers are usually small business owners who want a chance to complain about losing.

With all that info, I welcome any sorts of questions you might have and hope you have a beautiful rest of your day.

Edit: Closing the AMA since I am pretty close to concluding my trip and therefore will be posting pictures/reflections which will give more opportunity to ask more questions!

You probably remembered my post earlier asking about places that I need to visit while in Cuba and as I am close to concluding my trip and a few days away to fly back home, I’d like to give everyone an opportunity to ask any questions that they might have about Cuba. I’ll post photos as well as my own thoughts/reflections when I’m back home so until then feel free to ask any questions. As for proof (if it’s needed), Mods could check the IP I’m posting from as I’m currently on Cubacel. I wish I could post a photo as proof but the internet infrastructure here is 3G and therefore would consume a lot of data just from me posting a picture.

I have a surprisingly high alcohol tolerance for someone that doesn't drink often. I think that's not a good sign, my livers probably fucked.

Shoutout to the beautiful mods of this site--one of the only good places left on the internet. And for everyone for making this place so great. :meow-hug:

My favorite part of the site are the bit accounts. The good ones get a laugh out of me every time. (especially @JuanGuaido. :guaido:

In this world, magic is infused within the land. To tap into that magical energy, the people wove magic into metal and created magical tools. One such accomplishment was the Etherite Transit System

Centuries ago in the world, sorcerers created large siege weapons called Mage Hammers. They were large battering rams that converted magic, ether, into kinetic force. Many models were tried, but the best one was created during a siege.

The castle was magically fortified, resisting the strongest of blows or the fiercest of spells. But a general noticed something - while their forces were unable to enter, the enemy forces were unable to leave. So she constructed a rail system to allow the large metal battering ram to build up speed and power. The result was broken castle walls and a new system of transportation.

Instead of letting the built up kinetic force dissipate in a powerful blow, it allows the vehicle to propel itself under the most efficient circumstances.

Lesser tracks have been tried, but the most efficient one follows along a certain magic-dense tract of land.

The rail system was created in the equivalent of our medieval era. They had fast efficient cross-continental travel.

I'm just about at cruising altitude with 60 milligrams of THC and I'm feeling chatty. Ask. Me. Anything.

Please.

Also PSA - I am good at naming things and I'm a good writer. So if you're trying to figure out the name for a superhero, fantasy setting, magical term, drag queen name, or whatever, please ask! I love those sorts of challenges.

Things I've learned so far:

  • the door handles are shitty and flimsy

  • the car sometimes doesn't go into park and will keep driving

  • they have a 'toy box' app including a whoopie cushion.

  • one of the settings for the whoopie cushion is, "I'm so Random!"

  • they are manufactured super quickly and sometimes are missing things as crucial as the charging kit

  • they come in at different charges

  • they come in on transport mode which limits the speed to 31 mph

  • they have an annoying ass UFO sound when you go in reverse, but are completely silent when they drive forward

  • they are just so plastic
