Hello everyone!

As some of you probably seen, both @Berin@discuss.tchncs.de and I decided to step up as moderators since @The_Entire_Circus@ani.social (the original owner) hasn't been active for 7 months now. While this isn't a problem from a spam or content perspective at the moment, it's definitely something that can affect the place if the activity ball gets rolling or we end up on the radar of a troll, bot, or spammer.

We already started thinking about some changes to step away from the "in case Reddit falls" feel of the early days and turn it into its own thing but we could really use your help.

We're trying to figure out the best way to make this community more active and welcoming for potential newcomers. Since this place is by all of us, for all of us, we'd love to get some feedback on what you'd like to see done with it.

Do you have an idea for a rule? A type of content you'd like to see more of? Maybe you know of some useful links, tips and resources that should be easily accessible here?

Feel free to post anything that comes to mind as each piece of feedback will help shape the direction of our efforts and, truth be told, make our jobs way easier.

Thank you for your time and happy reading!

webrings are so cool

full disclosure !webrevival@lemm.ee taught me about webrings in general (they did not bring me this specific yuri webring) and it's wild having come across one outside of there, gives me hope for more random folks hosting websites about their interests again

I tried reaching the mod a week ago to update this community's sidebar, but they haven't answered, and apparently haven't been active/posted anything in half a year. Do we need to contact the ani.social admins to find a new one? (any volunteers?)

... Judging by the tags, premise and overall vibes I doubt how "friendly" this lab is going to be, but I'm kind of intrigued tbh

I only found one review/guide on this, and apparently this was originally a mobile game. Also, there's an interesting mechanic where you only influence the story by presenting items to the main characters? It looks like some kind of pet simulation 🤔

VNDB
Synopsis:
When Paige purchases an old house out in the English countryside, she thinks it'll be the perfect opportunity for her to focus on her next novel. Deadlines are hanging over her head, and she needs all the help she can get. What she isn't expecting is for excitement and inspiration to come in the form of Fay, a friendly fairy who's occupied the house far longer than Paige has.

They are actively searching for a producer right now, according to the statement on the Steam page. First time I'm seeing something like this^^;

Really love this quote:

"I think the most important thing is to figure out exactly what ideas really interest you," Tony said. "Figure out exactly what story you want to tell. People can tell when a project really comes from the heart, and they love that. At the end of the day, art is about connection. It’s about communicating with other people. So you have to know what you want to communicate.

Also there's some nice advice on writing horror in there!

The reviews aren't great though, although I'm generally comfortable ignoring those. Players complaining about the English translations mainly.

Check out the fest here

Honestly, judging by the comments on the trailer and several socmed posts from the indie dev side, people are pretty dissatisfied with how Steam handled this... 😅

Not only does the trailer notably lack Japanese titles, the original banner didn't even describe VNs as games at all (until they changed it). On top of that, several developers complained about having their visual novels rejected for...not being visual novels according to valve??

Here's a write-up by Press Space To Jump on the whole thing

But anyway, any games you can recommend, apart from the obvious ones?

I finished Day 2 of the demo, and they let you play up through Day 7, out of supposedly 100.

It's great so far! Feels just like Danganronpa except it has turn-based strategy.

I guess that fact makes it not exactly a visual novel but I'm not too hung up on it, and decided to post in this community anyway since the fanbase would be here. (And I mean, games like Sakura Wars three decades ago had the same formula and are called visual novels, so)

The English dub is really good so I kept it on English. Lately I'm finding myself doing that more often. English voice actors can sometimes have great range and expressiveness, probably helped that they come from a variety of different backgrounds. I appreciate that they pronounce the Japanese names impeccably in this game.

Japanese voice actors lately - either I'm old and have listened to them for too many years, or many of the newer VAs are limited in range and feel kinda stiff.
