Turning what was seen to be threatening and dirty to welcoming and magical.

On a recommendation post in this instance yesterday I watched the first episode of this show last night and it was really good.

They are clearly going for a Peaky Blinders sort of experience with the time frame and the out of era music and that is ok.

The cast is led by Julianne Nicholson and she is excellent in pretty much everything she does.

I was hooked really quick with this show.

I have watched the first episode of this show and I am not really sure what to say about it.

Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollette are the leads and they both knock it out of the park. She plays a cop who is reassigned to work with Egerton who is an Arson investigator, hence the title of the show. The duo is trying too catch two arsonists who are terrorizing the city.

She clearly has some past demons and has one really fucked up relationship with her ex-boss/current boss?. I suspect that storyline will be fleshed out as the show progresses.

Egerton really shinned in the first episode and has quirks of his own, such as he is trying to write a novel and when he writes he wears fake glasses. The show works the stuff he is writing into the narration of the show.

There is a really well done and horrific sequence where a women is in a Hobby Lobby sort of store that one of the arsonists sets ablaze and it is a really intense sequence that sot of tears your heart out as it goes along.

The episode is so very “noire” but unfortunately in a “trying to hard” sort of way.

Overall the episode had enough goodness to make me want to watch more.

I'm obsessed with it right now. It's historical, easy to watch (apart from the endless rapes which I can just ignore) and fun. It's good mindless telly.
