Love the SteamDeck and looking for some good Multiplayer games that feel right on the SD. I find FPS games don’t translate well for me with the keyboard -> controller style jump. So far love Diablo 4 when it comes to MP.

In gaming mode on the Steam Deck the CPU is presented to the games as having 8 cores instead of 4 cores with 8 threads. This seems to increase performance for some titles.

If you want to use this in desktop mode or on your desktop PC you can achieve the same results with the environment variable WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY.

Gaming mode on the Deck uses WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=8:0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7. You can see everything else they do in /usr/bin/gamescope-session.

I leave how to set the variable in the Wine frontend of your choice as an exercise for the reader.

If you are like me you want to be able to adjust your logitec/steelseries/asus (among other) mouse settings within the deck itself while in desktop mode.

There’s a great utility for doing this called libratbag. It can not be packaged as a flatpack so you will have to install it manually with Pacman. Due to the nature of how the deck’s os is configured, you will have to redo this every time your deck updates, but it’s super simple! You will need to have set a sudo password to do this, so if you have not done that go ahead and get that out of the way.

Instructions:

Launch Konsole

sudo steamos-readonly disable sudo pacman -S libratbag sudo pacman-key --init sudo pacman -Syy sudo pacman -S archlinux-keyring sudo pacman-key --populate archlinux sudo steamos-readonly enable

Congratulations! Libratbag is now installed! The next step is to install a GUI to control libratbag, this program is called piper. Luckily this is a flatpack, and available in the discover app located on the toolbar while in desktop mode. Just search for piper there and install it. This process will not need to be repeated after each update. After it installs launch it and you are free to adjust your mouse’s settings!

A heads up- I am a script kiddie at best. This works for me, so it should work for you. If it doesn’t, I’m probably not going to be able to troubleshoot this further, but I can try.

On update 3.5 of Steam OS, there was a call out about being able to customize the overlay by editing the ~/.config/MangoHud/preset.conf.

I'm looking for a simple FPS and battery percentage overlay. Ideally FPS in the top left and battery percent in the top right corner but I'd settle for help with them just next to each other.

Could anyone assist me in drafting the text for this?

Edit:

Thank you to shigutso@lemmy.world for posting the video below with the instructions to wait for the 5 minute mark.

I know this might be a bit of a long shot, but I figured I would give it a go;

I am trying to get Tyrian 2000 to work properly on my Steam Deck, via installing it from my gog library on Heroic. While it managed to install correctly I have a few issues that need to be resolved before I can continue;

The controller support is non-existent. I am unsure if that is fixable, though I suspect I might be able to get around it by remapping the Steam Deck controls. Not really a problem though if anybody knows a solution I'd be happy to hear it.

The real issue is that the music is not playing. Sound effects work just fine, so far, but I don't get any music. I suspect it has something to do with Dosbox, given the age of the game in question.

I’m trying to put a vinyl skin on my Steam Deck, and I’m having trouble; it keeps wrinkling up at the bottoms of the grips. Any suggestions?
