Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown has an upgraded Steam demo ahead of release, with a teaser of new voice-overs and the proper music.

I'm really happy to see they've properly listened to all the feedback from the earlier demo, because the atmosphere of it was really lacking but everything else seemed like it would make a really fantastic game for Star Trek fans to live out of a bit of fantasy changing all the decisions the Voyager crew had to make.

Their team announced earlier this week that some voice-over would be in the game, and with returning actors from the original TV series:

Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown features fully voiced logs by Tuvok and Tom Paris at the beginning of each sector. These logs recap recent events and set the stage for the mission ahead, helping ground each mission in the ongoing journey of the Voyager crew.

It was important to us to bring back the original actors, Tim Russ and Robert Duncan McNeill, and to work directly with them in a way that felt authentic and true to these iconic characters. Even though this day and age brings interesting new techniques, focusing on performances recorded by the actors themselves allowed us to create something personal and meaningful within the scope of the project.

The five-issue mini-series Star Trek: Voyager: Homecoming comes to a conclusion this week. IDW is celebrating the TV show’s 30th anniversary, revealing the untold story of what happened after the finale “to spin a heart-pounding tale that pays homage to all that came before and delivers the ending fans have waited decades for.” The comic brought in Star Trek: Prodigy consultants Tilly and Susan Bridges (Monster High, Star Trek Adventures, Fallout TTRPG) to team up with Sons of Star Trek artist Angel Hernandez (also known for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – The Dog of War). The fifth issue of Homecoming arrives this week and we have details, covers and a preview of first pages.

The new Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown game comes out next week. And now we finally know it will feature the voices of two original actors from the Voyager TV series. And not only will Tim Russ and Robert Duncan McNeill be reprising their roles as Tuvok and Tom Paris, respectively, but Voyager‘s main theme will also feature in the upcoming sci-fi simulator. Moreover, those wanting to see how Across the Universe will perform on the recently released Switch 2 will be able to do so thanks to a demo that becomes available today.

Tuvok, Paris… and Goldsmith

News of Russ and McNeill’s inclusion into the title – something that fans have been clamoring for ever since playing Across the Unknown‘s PC via Steam demo back in October — came by way of an interview with gamExcite’s Daniel Bernard, telling Nintendo Life:

“Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown will feature fully voiced logs by Tuvok and Tom Paris at the start of each sector. It was important to us to bring back the original actors in a way that felt meaningful. These logs recap recent events and set the stage for the mission ahead. The characters are voiced by their original actors, Tim Russ and Robert Duncan McNeill.”

It is time for Star Trek to boldly go where no streaming series has gone before: back to the 20+ episode seasons of old!

Star Trek's ongoing mission into the streaming era has been a bumpy ride, often missing the mark with fans and critics alike, while struggling to capture the magic that makes Star Trek special. Don't get us wrong, there have been some great stories and characters in shows like Discovery and Strange New Worlds, and especially in the deeply underappreciated Prodigy, but none of them have managed to trigger the Trekkie renaissance that's surely due.

Starfleet Academy is a bold move, and while we were initially skeptical of it, it seems to be paying off for Paramount, but this is still Paramount moving at impulse. We need a warp speed change to ensure that Star Trek lives long and prospers. And that change is more. Star Trek needs to return to a 20+episode broadcast season, and now is the time to do it.
