I've read on reddit that Google still provides unlimited photos backup if you own Pixel 5a and lower. On rooted Android you can fake that and get free backup storage, but who wants to give pictures to Google?! I was thinking if it's possible or done by someone to create an environment on Docker by faking device info to access that free storage and backup rclone crypted files as images (by .jpeg fake extension or something)?

Is ProtonVPN worth it?

@piracy

Got reminded of this while reading about ProtonMail. The reason I haven't gotten into proper #piracy is that I don't have a VPN for torrenting, and the reason I don't have a VPN is that I don't #torrent. So it would be nice if I got a good VPN while #degoogling myself.

Will ProtonVPN rat me out to Comcast? I know some VPNs don't hide what you're downloading from your ISP, for reasons I don't fully understand.

I just got Kodi up and running on a Firestick. I installed the Xenon Build for add-ons. Does anyone have a link to a guide on everything that you can customize and a general use guide?

I'm currently most interested in getting subtitles set up to automatically load. I found a toggle to keep them enabled, but you still have to download the subtitles manually.

Any tips that you might have are also welcome. Even if it's to recommend a different build, all help is appreciated.

If your IPS and the local authorities will not do anything if you download, upload and publish anything, what is the bare minimum of security measures you can do? Context: I live in Southamericas, here we have worse thing to deal with.

For many a year my needs of DMCA-ignoring VPS hosting have been met by various Eastern European hosters, who either ignored DMCA altogether or helpfully passed along all information without any further actions.

Now I'm searching for the same, but near USA. Mainly to be used as a torrent seedbox, personal VPN, and so on. What countries and hosters can you recommend?

I have just created an alternative to knock (and other tools, just going for the simplicity of knock) for downloading ACSM files. Thought some of you might find it useful. It is still pretty early in its development, but it is working.

I have an old Samsung Galaxy (2016) with Android 7.1 and all the recent Youtube ReVanced apps require Android 8+. The latest version you can use on Android 6+ is 17.36.37

My problem is videos stop loading after like a minute of playing, it gets stuck infinitely. I tried installing Vanced, which doesnt load videos at all anymore. Older versions of ReVanced, doesnt work. Other apps like NewPipe, but i dont like that they dont allow you to log-in to Google account. Also i heard that Youtube flags certain accounts like that, so you have to make a new one, but i dont want to abandon my 10 year old acc and build up my recommended page from scratch.

Is there anyone with old Androids? What is the solution here?

How can it possibly be, that an ISP, which I'm paying for gets to decid, which sites I'm allowed to have access to, and which not?

All the torrenting sites are restricted. I know, I can use VPN, and such... but I want to do it because of my privacy concerns and not because of some higher-up decided to bend over for the lobbying industry.

While on the other hand, if there's a data breach of a legit big-corp website (looking at you FB), I'm still able to access it, they get fined with a fraction of their revenue, and I'm still left empty-handed. What a hipocracy!!

What comes next? Are they gonna restrict me from using lemmy too, bc some lobbyist doesn't like the fact that it's a decentralized system which they have no control over?

Rant, over!

I didn't even know that my router was using my ISPs DNS, and that I can just ditch it, even though I'm running AdGuard (selfhosted)

Not necessarily piracy, but I realise that it might be the only option.

I'm planning to get away from Spotify. Is there some good places to get music. I don't mind paying for it. But I don't want a subscription service. I just want to be able to give someone money in exchange for a product. And ideally a MP3 or something similar so I can use it offline and move the file between devices.

Does something like that exist somewhere?

Is HEVC (8-bit)/AAC a good, modern CODEC combination for rebuilding & reducing my library size without compromising quality? Helpful feedback would be appreciated.

Watched Louis Rossman today, and he's part of the team behind a new app for watching online video content - not just youtube, but nebula, peertube, twitch and more.

adblock already integrated, works amazingly with a quick test on my end - it's an app in the Lemmy spirit

(it's got a paid model similar to winrar, you don't have to pay - but they do want you to - opensource and all)

Is there any reason why there don't seem to be any releases of Persona 5 for the PC? Anything I find is either Nintendo Switch or PS3 packaged alongside emulators. Does it really come down to the dramatic Denuvo cracker not bothering to have a go at this one?

How do these work?

Title says it all. Got the message of three remaining videos and then it locked.

I am using FireFox

Edit: Apparently, it was caused by me being logged into YouTube. But I would really like to be. Because that's where all my subscriptions are. If anyone knows of a way to have it both ways, please let me know.

Edit' : It was my Ghostery extension that was causing ruckus. I don't really like the idea of having to switch it off but at least it's nice to know the cause. Anyway, everything is working now. Even when I am logged in ^^

Also to anyone reading this, keep clearing your cache and update in UBlock Origin!

I've heard of piped due to the piped-link bot, but I am curious about others.

So I know what AC3 means of course, but what does AC3D mean in some releases?

After 16 years of living in my city, they will finally have city-wide fiber internet. I’m pretty stoked because the fastest internet I could possibly have is a WISP at 50gbps down and 10gbps up. Now I will finally have gigabit but it’s through the city, and I’m wondering if they will be more strict on illegal content download given a possible VPN leak. I know this is highly subjective but I want to understand all the possibilities what could happen.

Disney is raking its customers over the coals with a 75% price hike for their annual subscription (originally $80.) People wonder why piracy is on the rise.Multiple commenters are saying I'm off base about the 75% price increase. My payment less than a year ago was $79.99. Here's the proof.

Hello !

On my PC I use a torrent client that's FOSS and that only works if my VPN is running. It's great!

Is there a similar soft for mobile (Android)?

Harr & Cheers!
