For streaming not-so-easily accessible media that I find only on file hosting sites, which often limit the speed and number of downloads, I unlock links with Alldebrid and stream them in VLC player. This is impossible for members of my family to do, especially on a TV (fire stick). Is there a way I can acquire the links and make something like a playlist for them to access on TV and play just by clicking on the link? Torrentio does something like that for stremio but just for magnet links, I opened using Alldebrid.

Hello everyone,

Books are still one of the most important sources of information we have as a human species. However, the media on which this information has been stored has changed considerably over time and with it its accessibility and influence on our society.

Nowadays you can find an enormous range of books and texts online. Most of the time, however, access to them is extremely fragmented, difficult to find, subject to a fee, incompatible with the software platform of your choice or, in the worst case, goes under with its provider over time.

To counteract this, annas-archive was founded to make the knowledge stored in the texts and books openly accessible and to preserve it for future generations. On the other hand, there are platforms such as Goodreads that aim to simplify the joy of reading and the exchange of information, as well as the review and discussion of books and texts.

Unfortunately, Goodreads is a centralized, proprietary solution that in addition also happens to be owned by Amazon. BookWyrm is a decentralized, open source alternative in the fediverse that steps in right here.

Now here's the kicker: what if we combined the power of both platforms? What if we combined the enormous book database of annas-archive with the fediverse, i.e. BookWyrm? Annas archive could benefit from reviews and discussions about the books and BookWyrm could expand its still very limited database many times over.

From my point of view, this would be the perfect combination of two already great projects. What do you think?

I am back once more speaking about my kemono/Coomer project, and this time I am finally releasing a public beta!

For the better part of a month, I've been working on this GUI + library and while its not really that complicated to make, I've continued to improve it as much as I can!

This project has so far exceeded my expectations. It supports scanning for mega links in post descriptions and downloading them if the user requests it (this requires proxies however due to mega quota). If you plan to use this feature, I highly recommend Proxifier (I hear it's available on the 7 seas).

It supports mass image downloading, mass video downloading, built-in text translations via Google Translate, config support, and more!

If you're an avid user of kemono/Coomer, I humbly implore you to try out my program and tell me what you think! Please report any bugs that may exist on the GitHub repo.

I need some help. I'm trying to I stall Organizr V2 on my PC that is running my Sonarr, Radarr, and Plex. I keep getting missing dependencies though. Specifically 'fileinfo' and 'mbstring'.

I'm using the owi_installer on Windows 11. Any suggestions?

They could have easily crammed the Steam Deck full of stuff to make it hard to use for piracy - locking down everything, making it usable only to play games you legitimately own, force you to go through who knows what hoops in order to play games on it. That's what Nintendo or Apple or most other companies do.

But they didn't, because they realized they didn't have to. It's 100% possible to put pirated games on the Steam Deck - in fact, it's as easy as it could reasonably be. You copy it over, you wire it up to Steam, if it's a non-Linux game you set it up with Proton or whatever else you want to use to run it, bam. You can now run it in Steam just as easily as a normal Steam game (usually.) If you want something similar to cloud saves you can even set up SyncThing for that.

But all of that is a lot of work, and after all that you still don't have automatic updates, and some games won't run this way for one reason or another even though they'll run if you own them (usually, I assume, because of Steam Deck specific tweaks or install stuff that are only used when you're running them on the Deck via the normal method.) Some of this you can work around but it's even more hoops.

Whereas if you own a game it's just push a button and play. They made legitimately owning a game more convenient than piracy, and they did it without relying on DRM or anything that restricts or annoys legitimate users at all - even if a game has a DRM-free GOG version, owning it on Steam will still make it easier to play on the Steam Deck.

In some European countries, the authorities are taking rigorous action against film and music piracy. Even downloading a single file can lead to fines, criminal proceedings and warnings.

In Switzerland, the legal situation is somewhat different. Here, you can download or stream certain content from the internet without paying for it under certain circumstances.

Is anybody here also interested in electronic (techno, house, jungle, etc) dance music?

The kind of stuff that is usually - and often exclusively - sold on the likes of Beatport or Juno.

Some VPN companies claim to provide service from these countries, but sometimes it's a lie.

The VPN provider I use has servers in multiple countries. I was wondering if privacy laws would make it better to VPN to some countries over others when pirating.

I want to get back into reading, so I'm thinking of getting a Paperwhite. But I have no idea if it's possible to transfer files to it from a computer, and I have no experience with pirating books.

Do I go to the same places I torrent movies and games or are there special places dedicated to E-Books?

Counting only games in the modern era, when Denuvo started to charge monthly fees. And of course it might vary from game to game depending on sales, but...

I know that Square-Enix often removes it six months after release, and at a glance it looks like 2K often removes it roughly a year after release.

I'm curious if anyone has tracked this for other games so we can have a sense of which games are likely to have it removed when. I was eying a game when it suddenly occurred to me to think "wait, doesn't this company usually remove Denuvo around now?"

It might even be useful to create a tracking document of games where Denuvo has been removed by the publisher, divided by publisher (and perhaps with a few other notes that might affect it, like Steam review, metacritic, or sales figures if we can find them) to help us get a sense of where things stand in that regard.

Is anyone producing movie/tv cuts of celeb nude scenes? If so, where would one go to subscribe to them? If not, would that even be welcomed on a tracker?

Before I forget here's the server flow for my 64tb sever. Supports Anime and all the works, never could get manga working with torrent/usenet well enough on ubuntu though.

Make suggestions on improvements, I probably won't be using this settup on my next server, but similar.

For adding content I used Ombi and the plex watchlist sync feature for those that were leeching on my plex, worked well enough. For better management I used the LunaSea app (great fucking app, go get it now, it's free)

I didn't do music bc I have tidal with plex and that's more then fine, lidarr sucked too much for the artists I like and attempts at streamrip automation failed all the time.

First, a disclaimer: I'm no expert, and I only know what is on these documents I linked. I haven't read in-depth reporting by real investigative journalists, nor any reporting sourced or quoted from YT insiders (When I see articles about the ad-blocking, I knock wood that SmartTube is still working and keep scrolling, keen to avoid getting angry at another trillion-dollar company).

I've been doing some light research into Alphabet's YT ad revenue numbers today on my lunch hour. Here is where you find that info.

My curiousity was piqued by a few posts here and elsewhere regarding YouTube's new push to eliminate ad-blockers that indicate the push is because they've been losing money. Per my plebian understanding of these documents: Rather than a substantial decrease, YT had finally seen a 'leveling off' of ad revenue that had previously been enjoying explosive growth for the available history I can view. The historical (according to the data I have available to me) 32-43% increase in revenue leveling in 2022 to almost -2% is likely responsible for this push to more vigorously monetize users.

It's not easy to relate to earnings when they have to be counted in "thousands of millions" of dollars, but if we reduce it all to simple percentages, I suppose we can agree at least that the data they are working from does show a drop in revenue. I suspect (as many do) that the loss in revenue growth in Q3 2022 could at least motivate them to look for ways to make more growth. Where we may find debate is on the concept that growth must continue into infinity.

Earnings are provided in millions ($1,000 = $1B) My percentages after the link include ONLY YouTube Ad revenues, not the rest of YT revenues, which are liumped into "Google Other." I've enjoyed the discussion on this topic, with good points being made all over, like how we can't lose sight of the value a non-ad-viewing user brings to YT simply by watching and increasing viewer counts, subscribing, donating super chat or otherwise, and linking/sharing videos elsewhere.

I've read on reddit I think that if you are torrenting using a private tracker you're gonna be fine even without VPN. The question is: isn't the tracker is just a server that leads my torrent client to the pieces of the file on the seeders? And the connection between me and the seeders is p2p, isn't that type of connection is what makes your ISP snitch you? So what is different about private trackers? And where to find them?

Sci-Hub is a site to access scholar articles that are behind a paywall. The site has been involved in several legal cases such as Elsevier et al. v. Sci-Hub et al. (2005), a lawsuit filled by the American Chemical Society which was lost by default after failing to defend itself, and many other complaints resulting in ISP blockings and domain names being lost.

There is an ongoing lawsuit taking place in India at the Delhi High Court, but its site (working, not working) has been down several times in the last months and the transcript of cases after 2023-09-02 are "unavailable".

Overall, the future of sci-hub being a legally recognized entity (by India) looks grim based on the available transcripts but, is there another source for the current status of the case?

Even the site that considered safe in the megathread, there's report of malware and trojan and I don't know what site to use
