There’s an enormous and largely invisible campaign to use fraudulent notices under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act to remove critical articles from the internet. We don’t know who is running the campaign, but we do know it’s facilitated by Google’s amazingly trustworthy approach to DMCA complaints made by companies that don’t exist.

Hello all,

I'm a huge amateur when it comes to this stuff (I had a guy hold my hand on the phone and walk me through this) but I use Newsgroupdirect and buy blocks when they go on sale.

Is there a better group to do this from (or cheaper). I'm happy here but I saw an article that had some different places listed and it got me thinking.

Which group do you use?

It was so easy when I was growing up. I would just type my search into LimeWire and if it turned out to be weird porn I would delete it. Then we had The Pirate Bay, and I could go through reviews to see whether something was a virus or not. Now all public sites I am aware of are riddled with viruses, and I am warned that attempting to download any of them will result in me receiving threatening letters from copyrights holders in the post.

Here is what I have discovered today, trying to pirate things again:

  • The safest thing you can do is direct download from file share websites, but nobody says where these websites are.
  • If you want to torrent files, you need to subscribe to an exclusive private tracker. To get access to a private tracker, you need to get lucky, or you need to go through a painstaking process of levelling up over months and months of seeding torrents from semi-private trackers until you get to an actual good one that may or may not have the content you are looking for.
  • If you don't want to do this, you need to pay for a UseNet provider, then you need to register for a similarly exclusive UseNet index service, probably paid as well. There is no guarantee you will find what you are looking for on here either, and there is a chance that your download will fail.
  • Whether you are using torrents or UseNet, you need a service to help you find the content in the first place, for example Sonarr, Radarr or Lidarr. Something called Jackett also fits into this somehow and apparently links to whatever indexes you are using.
  • If you are torrenting, you then need a torrent client such as qBitTorrent to actually get the files.
  • If you are using UseNet, you need a UseNet downloader such as jdownloader.
  • Alternatively, for either option you can pay for a Debrid service such as Real-Debrid or Premiumize to download the files for you, if you send them the links. Besides protecting your privacy and your bandwidth, these services are also great for bypassing the limits on the elusive direct download sites nobody can tell me any more about.

I don't really think of myself as a stupid person but this shit is so confusing. It is harder than paying for drugs on the dark web with illegal crypto currency. Am I nearly there? Is this everything? If I pay for a UseNet provider and somehow register for a UseNet index, is it as simple as connecting the two together to something such as Sonarr to find the content and jdownloader to get it?

I just wanna have my own home streaming service.

This might not be the best place for this question but I honestly can't think of another place, but if you know of one please let me know. But I figured someone here might have the experience I'm looking for.

I own the discs for various Star Trek series and everything Stargate. What I'm trying to do is use handbrake to encode them to put them on Plex. But everything I try, it just looks worse. Is there a repository of like recommended settings for various media?

I mean fair enough, i use this version of Spotify and don't pay them a single cent: https://bestforandroid.com/apk/spotify-premium-mod-apk/

But if I was a paying customer i would be pretty pissed opening Spotify the first time on my 3 week travels and seeing this crap :-O Funnily there isn't even an option to change the location as suggested. Neither in the modded app nor on spotify.com on FF mobile.

So many trackers are down right now, even the I2P tracker. Did the government do it?

1732

As in title. Do you know any good alternative i2p trackers?

AAAD it's a freemium sideloaded app that allows you to install unofficial apps for Android auto.

At startup it sends some device identifier to his server and checks if you have a license, otherwise goes in trial mode where you can try one app every month.

It doesn't ask any additional permission. No storage, no phone/IMEI and no location. If you uninstall it, somehow it knows you previously downloaded it.

Tried to reset the advertising id, no change

My questions:

  1. How the hell the app is able to fingerprint the user like that, persisting uninstalls?

  2. How to reset the counter?

Spotify wants me to have a card from said county. I read that you can use PayPal, but they want a phone number from that country.

Any advice?

Edit: I'm aware that there are a lot of solutions to get it for free. I'm aware that I can just download my music.

Currently, I'm running running navidrome for my downloaded music and x manager Spotify for myself.

My wife has an iPhone. I don't want to download her music. But she's paying full price for Spotify.

I also like to listen from my work desktop. I have administrative rights, but it would be really dumb to download something like this to my work machine.

In several countries, I can get Spotify for like $30 dollars a year for 2 people. This price would be worth moving to legal. Especially for her, since she's paying $11 right now

"WHERE DA FUCK IS DA SITE MOTHAFUCKA?!"

UPDATE 2/15/2024 - This will most likely be the final edit to this section unless something good happens (which never does). The site is not coming back at this point. I already mentioned that my host starting ghosting me the minute the site went down, and I guess commissioning furry art was way more important to them than actually helping me. Just remember that I always had (and still have) people actively working against me who also try to influence others to do the same.

Is an update that was posted yesterday along with the following message.

When you try to search these repacks up on search engines, this Rentry page does not get picked up. I ask those who still even care about these releases to try spreading this Rentry page around. I would appreciate it as most people think I am gone just because the site died.

Gnarly has a lot of decent unique repacks such as his RPCS3 repacks and his Tale of Two Wastelands repack. They are still available on the Rentry site that I linked with this post. The megathread direct download games sections has also already been updated to point at the Rentry site.

I am trying to choose between buying a Nintendo Switch or a Nintendo DS.

This may not be the perfect community to ask - but I can't think of any better place.

The reason for my question: I don't want to own obsolete hardware in 10 years. Lately most games seem to depend on a "phone home" feature, which is not really an issue for my pc because it is always connected, but a console is something I want to play always and everywhere.

I already did some searching and found that games can be played offline fine (most of them, some exceptions are there like Multiplayer and Mortal Kombat), but:

  • There is something like the paid Nintendo Online Account. I am not planning on having a paid account. How much of the system depends on the account?
  • Can I have progression in a game (let's say: one of the Zelda franchise) and will my Wife and Kids all have their own progression, without having to pay for X accounts?
  • People who own a Switch, let's take this to extremes, do you feel like in 20 years from now you can still do the same things on your hardware as you can do now? (No multiplayer is fine)

Also, feel free to rant about "paying is not owning", the state of the gaming industry is horrible.

edit: Thank you all for the comments! I don't post a lot, so it was kinda overwhelming :)

For clarity:

  • I meant I want to "buy for life" (not really "life", but, if the hardware survives you can play on pre-internet consoles forever - you can even buy more games if you can find them)
  • I want to buy a physical copy of the games, not download them

I've decided to go with the Nintendo DS for now (I have a DSi - this week I bought a couple of games, 2nd hand). Reasons:

  • I already had it
  • Joycons on switch. Multiple people mentioned having problems with them. I don't count on being able to buy them new in 10 years, meaning they will have to last.

Again: thank you all for the useful input!

So I know the easy answer is from steam/gog/epic or what ever else but I can't imagine all game repackers are doing this for financial or ethical reasons.

I do remembered one group in matrix telling me about a Russian site that uploads untouched games but can't remember the name.

Any links to trust worthy sources?

I don't think anything like this is listed in the Mega thread. Is there a good place to find high quality sample packs?

I'm planning on using Zotify to download a couple playlists of music I've added over the years. Before I do that, I'd like to be able to make a copy of the playlists before downloading any music in the off chance my account gets flagged by Spotify.

I would like the playlists be ready to use with other services or music seeking apps like deezer or soulseek. I've tried searching but a lot of results bring up sketchy websites that ask for your Spotify account login and I'm cautious of that.

I'm just doing this as a an extra backup step and hopefully things go smoothly with Zotify.

I like to run qBittorrent on a Linux laptop to try and minimize the risk of Microsoft tracking what I'm doing and to protect my main system from viruses. I'm having an issue with it though. When I go into Advanced and select Network Interface, Proton VPN is not an option there. I only get lo, eno1, wlp4s0, ipv6leakintrf0, and tun0.

How can I get it to bind to the VPN so that I don't have to worry about it freaking out and sending unencrypted data through qBit?

EDIT: I also tried torrenting Ubuntu and killing the VPN just to test it out. It didn't stop downloading and uploading when I did that.

Saw this on mastodon and thought I'd share it here.

What the title says. Not sure if temp. error or its over. If it is over, then I hold my hat in my hands, RIP YAPS, and thank you for providing plenty of entertainment for me when I decided to flip netflix the middle.

Whenever I visit Facebook now, I get the following message or suspension warning (note the link is from someone else's instagram account posted on reddit and I only link to it because it's the complete warning at a glance)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Instagram/comments/18bsjib/we_suspect_automated_behaviour_on_your_account/

I have no idea what they're talking about or why I'm suddenly getting the message. I originally assumed it was related to my VPN but apparently not.

Anybody else suddenly getting this warning or know what might be going on?

jc141 is a linux game repacking group that use .sh scripts to configure wine prefixes but also includes native releases allowing users to easily play games on linux.

the script is bash and must be run with dialog and from within the directory where jc141 games are stored.

make a .sh file called launcher.sh or whatever else. paste the bash script, save to the dir that has jc141 releases and launch in terminal. personally i set an alias in bashrc that links to the .sh script

mozila paste bin
