I'm already loving the quality of posts and discussions I'm seeing here. There's a reason why we're consistently in the Top 10 of all lemmy communities!

With all the reddit 3rd party apps shutting down today (RiP Sync) I expect to see a big influx of users. And our new user application inbox is overflowing as well. I hope y'all will put the new blood through the steps!

Keep up the great content mates!

Influx of Lemmy brothers and sisters incoming. Already 3K and growing deep, we may as well rebuild together. Let's do this! 🤝

Edit : Yes there are workarounds using Revanced. Check the comments for some awesome help on how to do this if you wish! Just know, in the future it will most likely end up being patched annoyingly and I therefore recommend looking forward to the future with us here.

A good example of why GitHub and similar sites/services are not reliable or good places to publicize this sort of data.

It seems kind of dubious that the DB could be DMCA'd for containing copyrighted videos, when it actually doesn't 🤔

The ones listed in the wiki are either very troublesome or have dead links. Do ya’ll know any good ddl sites or trackers for them?

I am using this right now but if someone have any better recommendation it would be appreciated.

Title. Have fun and patience, because downloads off archive are very slow.

Also, if y'all know a decent place to share some of that stuff again, comment so me and others can grab it off the archive and reup it elsewhere for easy access

EDIT: Not everything is still archived. Just tried to peruse Starfinder folder, and it has been deleted from Archive. Some other folders and files are still working

Is there a good tracker for TV shows? I've looked on torrentgalaxy and 1337 and having trouble finding some shows and the mega thread seems really barebones.

I haven’t really worried about cracked games since I started using Steam years ago but I had a bit of a revelation today regarding my willingness to play something and my willingness to pay for it. So my question is are there any risks to the standing of a Steam account if you play cracked games on the same system?

Hey everyone,

I am new to the community and have some questions regarding safely seeding torrents.

  1. When using a seedbox, should I be using a VPN (to access the control panel) on my end at all times? I am worried that the seedbox IP will be discovered by copyright groups and they will figure out who I am by contacting the seedbox provider.

  2. Is it safe to be paying in Bitcoin? I know Monero is the safer option, but I haven't found much support for that and I'm not even sure if the copyright groups will have the means to track Bitcoin anyway.

  3. What can possibly happen assuming I am found to be seeding copyrighted material through a seedbox. Would I just receive a DMCA notice or C&D, or would it be more severe?

  4. Should I lean more towards being paranoid, I am not planning on becoming a big seeder and I'm sure there's bigger fish for these groups to worry about, but you never know what the future holds. Are these groups known to have a lot of resources to track seeders down?

Thanks for any help, and if there's something important that I'm missing, please let me know!

Browse through thousands of Roms from a myriad of consoles

The 3DS Modders of you might know this page aswell as myrient is the backbone of hShop. But to all the others, enjoy this wonderful fileserver!

It contains nearly every ROM i searched for. The newer consoles are not on it (Switch, PS4, etc.) but all the retro consoles, heck even up to the 3DS, is all there.

You can connect to it via FTP, Rsync or browse the fileserver straight from their website.

They got different repacks of the games and usually offer all different regional releases.

Have fun with it!

Source for Comics? (discuss.tchncs.de)

Hi,

I am always looking for sources for comics, particularly franco-belgian in English or German. The only sources I can find are these godawful download sites where you need to pay or your download takes a day.

Anyone have better sources?

Edit: Thanks a lot everyone!

I was planning on buying Hi-Fi Rush, but turns out it has Denuvo. Is there anywhere I can pirate it instead?

Or in terms of offline play, can I bypass Denuvo's requirement to go online every 2 weeks? I will be playing this on Steam Deck so I don't want to have to go online. How does it work? Can I set the time back so I don't need to connect?

Hello there,

Long story short: I have a big PC game collection from golden era (1995 - 2010) - digital ISOs and BINs and a limited space to preserve them. I dont trust clouds in any form, so I prefer old school external HDDs for store. For me 7Zip is a good way to archive them and save some space, but recently ive found out that if you convert a BIN or an ISO file to ECM and then you archive it with 7Zip (ultra compression), the final compression file size will be in most cases almost at a half compared to original non ECM file.

Example:

Original Bin file (rld-cl1.bin) - 672MB

Original Bin file zipped with 7zip on ultra compression (rld-cl1.7z) - 268MB

Original Bin file converted to ECM (rld-cl1.bin.ecm) - 586MB

Original Bin file converted to ECM zipped with 7zip on ultra compression (rld-cl1.bin.7z) - 195MB

So there is a difference of 73MB in this case.

Does this method is good? You can damage the BINs in any way if you ECM them, ZIP them, unzip them and UnECM them back to BIN? I noticed in properties of an UnECM(ed) BIN file that the BIN no longer have Last Modified Original Date - in this case was year 2005.

There are other different methods to save space? I dont care much about loading time from archiving/extracting. I just want to be sure that all the files remain untouched in this process. Thanks

Any good podcast indexers that I can join?

3545

I'm trying to download a podcast, and I can find the artist on Lidarr, but it doesn't have any releases tied to it. They exist in MusicBrainz, so I'm not really sure what's up. I don't want to have to search for each release individually if I can avoid it. Anyone seen this/know how to fix it?

When we got blindsided by rarbg's downfall I saw quite a few people post dumps of their torrent database, with none of them in a dummy usable format. I am not database literate so raw sql dumps are useless to me...

That was about the time I got banned from Reddit so I never saw the completion of the archive stuff on /r/piracy. Did someone in fact get the rarbg torrent database into a usable format that I could use? There's still a lot of older movies and TV that I'd love to pick up from them and my old habits die hard.

Should one use 2.0 or infinite?

I use Playnite as a launcher for my pirated games. It would be nice to have a way to sync my save games between devices somehow.

Is there a program that does this? or maybe some workaround?

I saw another post asking how to set up Soulseek and, at first glance, it looks like those old P2P file sharing platforms, like eMule, Kazaa or Limewire.

As someone who used those during their peak, I'm well aware of the risks of getting unwanted stuff, not to mention that you're fully exposed within the network.

Does Soulseek deal with those issues, or are users exposed to those risks as well?

How do any of you read your comics? I'm looking for something like a tablet/e-reader that would support either web browsing or adding files without using a proprietary store and color screen. Bonus points if the screen is huge and I can compromise having one that is old, a little slow/low refresh rate and low res. Currently using a MS Surface which is great but really heavy and slightly clunky. It's also shared so I have to give it back occasionally. First time poster, happy to see so many people on Lemmy.
