Okay I'm fully aware of how ridiculous this sounds in 2023, but bare with me.

I have a wonderful neighbour, Jackie. She's in her mid-sixties, and ever since she moved in we have become very good friends, she's like a second mom to me.

Jackie loves movies and has an enormous DVD collection. One day, she was talking about how she couldn't find a particular movie, and I said "I can probably download that for you!" Her immediate reply was "Can you put it on a DVD?" I tried telling her the many reasons it would be better to use a myriad of other solutions, but she insists on DVDs.

I did them for a while using DVDStyler on Windows, and it worked fine. But then I installed EndeavourOS on a new partition on my hard drive, tried using Brasero and Devede but it wouldn't read on her DVD player. Then I tried DVDStyler on my Linux partition, and it didn't work on her DVD player, despite saying the operation was successful on my end. I then tried booting up into Windows and using DVDStyler, and that also didn't work, not even letting me burn the disc. Does anyone have any ideas what could fix this? I've tried playing around with the settings in all these apps but I couldn't figure it out.

Apologies if this isn't the best place to ask this, but I figured a community of pirates would understand my desire to get movies to Jackie without her having to pray to find them in a pawn shop!

I'm curious to know if anybody else finds their computer behaving sluggishly or erratically when downloading torrents.

For the record: I use transmission on a 2020 imac and have tried other clients to little avial. A virus and/or activity check doesn't reveal anything untoward going on in the background.

I'm not sure what's going on, but torrenting is either resource intensive (possibly RAM) or writing to the harddrive results in poor performance overall. Or maybe its something else (like my vpn draining resources)? Either way, when I torrent I might as well walk away from my computer because that's all it seems it wants to do, and even then its performance remains erratic.

I'm trying to stick it to local services. Unfortunately the content they serve is not available on the seas, and the only way to access it is through iptv services. However, I'm not sure where to start of where to start looking.

RARBG used to be my go to, but now that it's gone I haven't found a good place. Recommends?

I'm not sure if it's common knowledge, but a 'shadow' RARBG search engine went up when the site went down.

As far as I could tell, it provided direct access to all of its original torrents and/or continually seeded torrents by other dedicated seeders (or sites).

But the search engine has suddenly become inaccessible. Anyone know why? Is there an alternative?

I tried looking around online to find out if these release groups are internal to any specific tracker but didn't find much out there. Does anyone in the community happen to know what trackers these groups call home?

Thanks to this Lemmy I entered the magic world of private trackers, and now the list of torrents I keep seeding is growing by the day. How can I detect when the number of torrents is detrimental to the functioning of the network? What is a reasonable ball park estimate of active (even if "dormant") torrents?

I tried to join the lemmy instance some weeks ago but the registration was likely not approved, even though I remember I did everything right.

The same address is down now, not sure if it's blocked by my ISP or something.

Following another setback in its legal dispute with Sony Music, Quad9 has decided to block pirate site Canna worldwide. The court-ordered block was initially restricted to Germany but the music label complained that VPNs and a mobile network still allowed Germans to access the pirate site. Quad9, meanwhile, has appealed the underlying court judgment.

Ultimately, Quad9 hopes that the lower court’s blocking order will be overturned on appeal. It will continue to fight the case, even if that takes several years.

This sets a really bad precedent going forward... a bit of a low blow for Sony to go after a non-profit that doesn't have an army of lawyers

I finally decided that I would get into One Piece. However, nearly all the torrent sites just have literal THOUSANDS of magnets for the latest episode, and a few here and there of various seasons. But I can't seem to find anything before 2021 except for a rare one off episode.

Greetings fam, i'm unable to download items from the google drive (Team drives). It keeps on popping up " The download quota for this file has been exceeded" let alone tryna download after 3 days of gap & different VPN servers thinking it would refresh the limit but nope still the same issue.

I'm happy enough to seed til kingdom come, but I'm not aware of any facility that allows this with the 'Arrs.

Is there a way to continue seeding after download is completed, and also after the files have been moved and renamed to conform to whatever convention you have in place that the media players can pick up?

I currently have them continuing for 3x ratio in the downloads folder but that's duplicating files for who knows how long, and I don't have an enormous amount of space.

Can the torrent client be hooked back to the files under their new names, and can it be automated?

I own a Garmin Dash Cam, and one of the features is red light and speed cameras alerts, however this feature is hidden behind a subscription, the camera doesn't require internet connection all the time, so theoretically the files could be reverse engineered. I tried to do a quick google search but got nothing, does anybody know if this feature has been cracked?

I've seen many people have insane setups to download things automatically and NAS' with tens of terabytes of capacity, which i don't understand at all.

I have a 1 tb drive from 2013 of which I'm using ~850GB and most of the space is used by series i have already watched and haven't bothered to delete.

What are you storing to need so much space and how are you finding so much good content that you actually want to save?

Hello, I’m not sure where to ask this. But my login fails through every web browser. I can do a password reset, which logs me in. But then I cannot log in with the new password using another web browser. Anyone else having this issue?

I want to unlock the ability to view content on my mobile device. I can do that with a one-time purchase (payed with google opinion rewards) or with a subscription. I want to unlock the ability for my entire family though, across multiple devices. Do I have to pay the "one-time payment" for every device? If so, the plex subscription might be worth it. Is there any other major benefit to having a plex subscription?

With Netflix and other streaming platforms increasing price, I finally decided to get a seedbox for my family members' needs with Plex/jellyfin.

My budget is 10-15 USD per month. I'm currently on the 11$ hostingby.design plan with 4TB storage and 9TB traffic, 10gbit connection. I've been mostly happy but,

• Their app selection feels small though I've found most of the mainstream stuff.
• I'm missing things like cross-seed, jellystat, jellyfin-vue, transmission and audiobookshelf.
• Not happy with how apps installed by the GitHub scripts are not available on HTTPS.
• Can't disable ssh password login for public key, which is making me really uncomfortable.
• Their wiki seems quite sparse.

The other options I'm thinking of are:

• 13$ HDD plan at seedhost.eu - 4TB/9TB but only 1gbps, downgrade in specs but seems to have more apps.
• 14$ plan at ultra.cc with 3TB/8TB but 20gps (which feels like an overkill honestly). Also a downgrade but their wiki/app support looks top notch.

I really wish there was a way I could manage docker containers on my own on a similar shared setup without paying for a dedicated vps but haven't found something like that so far.

Any advice regarding the other providers, experience or otherwise would be greatly appreciated :)

Hello, the only thing from stopping me to fully use Manjaro as my primary daily OS is that pirating on linux is inconvenient. When i install pirated games on Linux they must be really lightweight to support, like Undertale or Papers Please, because WINE uses Vulkan graphics and they are fucking terrible on slightly more heavy games like superhot and shit, this entails having bad frame rate like 20 fps (unplayable). To whoever is using Linux and also pirates games on daily basis, do you also have the same problem? Is there any solution you could suggest me? Thank you
