Charlie Brown sits on a cushion on the floor listening to the radio.

He puts his hand to his face as he continues to listen.

As he puts both hands to his mouth, Violet walks up. She says,"That must be an exciting program, Eh, Charlie Brown?"

He replies,"Oh, the program hasn't started yet....this is still the commercial"

Snoopy sits on the ground listening to Charlie Brown play the violin.

Snoopy covers his ears as Charlie Brown continues to play.

Charlie Brown lets out an exhausted sigh of relief, as Snoopy sits drained, with his tongue out.

Charlie Brown turns to Snoopy and asks,"Do you think that I could have had anything to do with the death of Beethoven?"

This strip has the first reference to Beethoven

Charlie Brown sits in the bathtub and tosses a duck out. He exclaims,"Ducks!"

He tosses a boat out and exclaims,"Boats!"

He tosses a swan out and exclaims,"Swans!"

He turns to the reader and concludes,"Great Scott! Can't a man take a bath with any privacy?!"

Transcript:

Patty stands next to Charlie Brown and asks,"Do you think I'm beautiful, Charlie Brown?" He turns around and exclaims,"Oh, Oh!"

He continues,"Well, you'll have to admit that you're getting on in years..."

He leans towards with his eyes squinting. He continues,"Of course, if I sort of half-close my eyes...."

As she chases him, he exclaims,"It's risky, but I get my laughs!"

Patty looks over her shoulder, as Charlie Brown points to his left and says,"Well, look who's coming!"

He looks down at Snoopy as the latter arrives smiling. Charlie Brown says,"Man's best friend"

Patty looks at Snoopy, over her shoulder, as he walks off. She says,"Man's best friend, eh?"

She turns to him and exclaims,"What's wrong with women?!" He stops and his ears shoot up.

Patty and Shermy sit on the floor facing each other. She exclaims,"You heard what I said!"

She stands, points at him, and continues,"And don't you forget it, either!"

He cringes as she says to his back,"You'd better treat me with more respect..."

She concludes,"Someday, I may be somebody's mother"

The drawings of characters are now lighter beginning with this strip. The gag is recycled from the Li'l Folks strip from July 31, 1949.

Charlie Brown runs along asking,"Hey, Violet, do you want to borrow some of my comic books?"

He catches up to her as she walks along the lane. He continues,"Could I buy you a soda? Do you want to ride my tricycle?" She replies,"No, thank you..."

They stop in front of her door. He asks,"How do you expect me to impress you?" She replies,"Just be yourself, Charlie Brown..."

He says through the closed door,"Oh, rats, you girls always expect too much of a guy!"

Shermy and Patty stand across from each other arguing. He says,"Men are better than women!" She replies,"They are not!!"

He continues,"Washington was a man! Jefferson was a man! Lincoln was a man!"

She replies,"Your mother is a woman!!"

He concludes,"You got me!"

Transcript:

Charlie Brown stands looking over his left shoulder and says,"Well, here comes that new girl..."

As Violet walks up holding her books, Charlie Brown asks,"Do you want me to carry your books, Violet?"

She points behind her and replies,"I already have someone"

He watches as she walks off with Snoopy holding her books in his mouth. He says,"Foiled!! And by man's best friend!"

Transcript:

A puzzled Charlie Brown stands behind Snoopy, who is looking up at Violet. She says,"Well, hello, there!"

She stoops in front of Snoopy and continues,"You don't know me, do you? My name is 'Violet'" Charlie Brown clears his throat.

Violet touches Snoopy's nose and says,"You're real cute..." Charlie Brown clears his throat louder.

As Snoopy sits gazing after Violet lovingly, Charlie Brown exclaims,"Well, why didn't you introduce me?!"

The first appearance of Violet, and the first time Charlie Brown falls in love.

Transcript:

Charlie Brown runs along in full cowboy gear and holding a gun. He is shouting Bang! several times.

He continues to run, point his gun, and shout Bang!

He stops in front of Shermy who is also dressed in cowboy gear. He says,"I'm running out of ammunition!" Shermy asks,"What do you mean?"

Charlie Brown replies,"My throat's getting sore!"

Transcript:

Charlie Brown sits at the table, looking down at his plate. He says,"I always like to save the best piece until last..."

He exclaims questioningly as Snoopy walks up smiling.

As Snoopy stands on his hind legs by the table, Charlie Brown lets out an exasperated sigh.

As he watches Snoopy smacking on the food from his plate, Charlie Brown leans his head on his hand and says,"Oh, well!"

Charlie and Shermy notice that Patty, who is sitting down, looks extremely depressed. Shermy asks, "What's wrong, Patty?"

Patty says, "You boys don't love me.. You never fight over me!"

Charlie and Shermy start a fight. Charlie says, "How's this? What a battle!" Shermy says, "What a struggle."

Charlie and Shermy lie on the ground. Patty says, "That was fine.. I feel much better now!"

Transcript:

Charlie Brown is walking next to Snoopy and says "Go home, Snoopy! Go home!!"

He turns to Snoopy and continues, "Go home, I saw! Stop following me!!" as Patty looks on questioningly

Patty comes over and says "He's not following you... he lives in that direction!"

Charlie Brown continues on upset next to a smiling Snoopy

Charlie Brown stands nearby watching Patty and Snoopy. She holds candy in her hand and says to a sitting Snoopy, "Speak!"

As Snoopy sits chewing behind Patty, Charlie Brown walks up to her with his hand outstretched. He asks,"Say, how about giving me a piece of that candy, too?"

Snoopy watches as she replies,"Say, 'Please!'"

Charlie Brown, chewing the candy, says to Snoopy,"Now I know what you always have to go through!"

Charlie Brown walks along with his shoulders slumped. He says,"Boy, am I ever discouraged..."

He continues,"What a life!"

He stops as Patty walks by and exclaims,"Hello there, handsome!"

He walks along upright and cheerfully says,"Ah! It's a beautiful day!!"

Transcript:

Charlie Brown looks down at a sitting Snoopy and says,"Snoopy, lets have a race..."

He says,"We're off!!", and they start running.

Snoopy dashes ahead of Charlie Brown.

The latter stops, watches him go, and says,"Ah, now I can eat this candy in peace!"

Transcript:

Shermy stands looking at Charlie Brown tricycle. The latter stands nearby and says,"I'm thinking of trading it in for a new model"

Shermy stoops to look at it and replies,"You should do all right on a trade-in...."

Charlie Brown sits on the tricycle and says, "I kind of hate to part with it, though..."

He continues,"It always started pretty good in cold weather!"

Patty stoops watching Charlie Brown reach undered the chair in the living-room. He says,"I lost a penny underneath this chair..."

He kneels on the floor and watches her lie on the floor and look under the chair. He says,"If I had my flashlight, I could see it"

She stands up and looks down at him sitting. She asks,"Why don't you get your flashlight?" He replies,"It's in the attic..."

He stands up and concludes,"And it's so dark up there I can't find it!"

Patty and Charlie Brown are walking. He says,"I dreamed about you last night..."

They stop and she asks,"Did you, Charlie Brown? Was it a nice dream?"

They sit on the curb and he replies,"I'm not sure..."

He concludes,"I slept through most of it!

Transcript:

Shermy and Charlie Brown struggle to stand on the ice in their skates. Shermy says,"Watch it!"

Shermy says,"Oops!" as he starts to fall. A shaky Charlie Brown says,"Careful!"

He falls down next to a fallen Shermy.

He sits up and says to a kneeling Shermy, "Let's jump over barrels!"

Transcript:

Shermy and Patty sit on the floor playing. He says,"Somebody's at the door"

She walks off saying,"I wonder who it can be?"

She opens the door and sees Charlie Brown. She says,"Oh, it's you, Charlie Brown..."

He looks at the reader as she walks off saying,"I thought it was somebody important!"

Snoopy sits on the table watching Charlie Brown write.

The latter looks up at him and says,"I'm glad that dogs can't read..."

He resumes writing and concludes,"A diary is a very personal thing"
