Welcome to today’s daily kōrero!

Anyone can make the thread, first in first served. If you are here on a day and there’s no daily thread, feel free to create it!

Anyway, it’s just a chance to talk about your day, what you have planned, what you have done, etc.

So, how’s it going?

Almost like the cost of living is unachievable for those on the lowest wages.

TL:DR Studies on financial education show it helps increase savings rates, but has virtually zero impact on whether someone will default on loans. The article suggests that financial discussions at home are important.

Really though, the article is raising discussion points and doesn't really suggest what actions we should take (that I noticed, anyway).

We’re officially at a road death rate of one a day so far this year. Stay safe, don’t speed, be sober, belt up, and throw your phone in the boot.

No mention of what they’re protesting but hopefully this isn’t some sort of attempt to repeat the literal shit-show from last year.

Edit: apparently it’s people gluing themselves to roads to promote trains. https://www.newstalkzb.co.nz/news/national/traffic-disruption-warning-by-police-ahead-of-restore-passenger-rail-protest/

The last few posts made here, they've shown up, made the most inane, idiotic, and pointless comments, upvoted each other in a frenzy of circle jerking, and generally made a pest of themselves.

They're a nuisance, and add nothing of value to the Lemmy experience.

I guess they didn’t want people to end up calling it P Road

Ricciardo broke his hand so Lawson is finally making his F1 debut.

...And I'm taking partial credit for that. No need to thank me, just keep shopping elsewhere. Everyone keep doing your part.

In the photo on RNZ there are two overflowing tanks with a bank behind them. You can spot the tanks on Google Maps, next to the middle shed:

For those who have been following the "Dairy/Emissions/Climate Change" saga the last few days, this story highlights the role that Fronterra will/must play in turning the industry around to be accepted on the World stage. This includes at least some move to plant based production. Fronterra can dictate to farmers what practices are acceptable, or it won't collect the milk, this has been done before, so Fronterra has the power to force the change.

As one of the early commenters below the story highlights, this does nothing for the pollution of NZ Rivers that continues, though. It IS time for the Farmers to pay, and I suspect many are going to pay dearly.

You need to have a mortgage with them though

Last month we set a starry banner image for Matariki. It would be good to have some suggestions for new banner images.

So please post some suggestions, if we can get a few different ones to line up for the next few months (changing each month) that would be great. Original content encouraged but not required!

Upvote the ones you like and we'll try to prioritise them. We will start with a new image from next month (September).

Just so we know what we're talking about, this is the current banner image. You see it when you go to the community page (though it can look different depending on app or how you're accessing it):

Edit: Also please include a credit or source if applicable, which we can put in the side bar.
