Hi, apologies if this isn't allowed. I'm a US citizen looking to move to NZ. I have all the technical stuff taken care of, just waiting on my documents to be processed and approved.

Basically I am looking for groups I can reach out to to help me get build a social group, and hear what others think about different areas of the country. I am LGBTQ, so it seems like Auckland or Wellington will be my best bet. If I'm in a big city, I would prefer not to have a car.

I'm a nurse, and it looks like salaries are good but not great (between 70-90k/year is what I seem to be finding).

Is this reasonable? Is NZ easy to settle into? Any other expats that can offer advice? Am I going to be broke all the time (I also have a cat I am bringing unless I am physically unable to)?

I did some research prior to applying, but I find more and more opposing views on where the country is headed. I guess I am just looking for some folks that had a similar situation to see how it worked out for them. I had a fair bit of options in where I could go, but the culture in New Zealand just seemed like the best fit. Thanks for taking the time to read or reply.

Cryptocurrency consultant Nicolas Turnbull gave evidence to help the jury understand some of the jargon, but he said there seemed to be "no real structure" to DeLuney's trading.

"There's a lot of emotion in it, where if you're trading, and you're doing this as a job ... in my professional opinion you need structure, you need risk management."

This lady sounds incredibly stupid to me, some of the diary excerpts sound like a post on Wallstreetbets. Just fumbling around blindly while the pros help themselves to her money.

Last weeks thread here

Welcome to this week’s casual kōrero thread!

This post will be pinned in this community so you can always find it, and will stay for about a week until replaced by the next one.

It’s for talking about anything that might not justify a full post. For example:

  • Something interesting that happened to you
  • Something humourous that happened to you
  • Something frustrating that happened to you
  • A quick question
  • A request for recommendations
  • Pictures of your pet
  • A picture of a cloud that kind of looks like an elephant
  • Anything else, there are no rules (except the rule)

So how’s it going?

Shockingly, building more houses means they become cheaper. Why didn't we think of this sooner?

Also, it's great to see more high density housing being built.

I've been pretty interested lately in where New Zealanders are talking online. This survery has a lot of interesting data and seems to show that vast majority of New Zealanders are on facebook over other platforms. That sucks because I do not and will not ever use facebook and cant view any of the discussion because it requires an account.

The survey seemed to show that NZers are feeling less and less optimisic about the internet with the 2024 data showing only 74% think the positives outweight the negatives compared to 90% in 2019.

I was very relieved to see that the results show NZers really dont like AI and think its very concerning.

I was surprised at the amount of people who never use SMS and I am thinking of getting rid of SMS as well and seeing how that goes.

The trends that looked at what specifically people cared about showed people care about the right things but its super blackpilling to see these numbers show people care about these things but their behavior reflects the complete opposite. Like 60-70% of people putting data privacy as their #2 issue while facebook being the most used site.
