Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

Occuring on the newest version on android. Maybe someone knowledgeable ongithib can open an issue or even fix it themselfes.

The last shown symbol might also weirdly get smaller if there is not enough space for the whole symbol.

Sometimes I come across a image that I want to share with someone. Currently it takes a bit more time, and I have to download the image in order to do it. I would love to have share functionality built in the image viewer.

Is there a way to group the communities I'm subscribed to? Let's say:News, Work, Sports, etc.

Trying to expand comments (e.g., 3 additional responses in the pic below) is causing the app to crash.

It would be nice if it was possible to see all communities of specific instance within the app

I'd love to be able to block an entire instance. Can this please be added to Jerboa?

Unless I'm missing an obvious option, it doesn't seem like there is a way to check where a post hyperlink is going to send you without clicking on it.

It'd be great if long pressing or clicking on a hyperlink would open a text box that previewed the link URL and let you click through to the site, copy the URL, or share it.

RIF on Reddit had a similar feature which was extremely useful.

A history button on the left sidebar to see read posts would be really helpful

So, past few days, the instance I have my account in, seems to crash and burn every morning, when I would like to browse it. I wouldn't otherwise mind waiting fir the few minutes it takes to the issue being fixed, but Jerbia decides it's a great idea to PURGE EVERYTHING if there is any sort of hitch in the login.

Now, I do notice I get a some sort of javascript error every time this happens, and I suppose it's a null reference error, but I also imagine the issue is not isolated to a situation where the instance itself is down, but can probably be replicated by a local network outage. And an easy solytion is to add a variable that tells the app that the logins used has been valit, with an option to change the password, rather than just lose everything. Zure, it might be cool if there was a tiny check to see if the instance exist, when loging in with a saved credentials, and notify about not being able to reach it, but the most important feature would be to have a "newly invalid login" to still exists within the app.

[EDIT]: To clarify: even if the logins on the app would still be there after the instance comes back up and the app has been restarted, the issue still presists, because there is no excuse for displaying the credentials as forgotten, and defaulting to anonymous, where you could simply display an error that implies the logins are still ther, but not reachable. Tint the username red, and add [login error] at the namespace. Or better yet, add a tiny ⚠️ icon in front of the handle, that will provide information aboit the error.

I am not looking how to solve this for myself, I am reporting a bug/oversight that will affect peoples retention rate with not just Jerboa, but with Lemmy as a whole. Now, I know Jerboa isn't the only client out there, but I'd rather see it get better than try and find an alternative, but if the welcome for suggesting an improvement is "it's not really a problem to me, so I don't even care if it's a good suggestion, you should just get over it too", I'm rather tempted to jump ship if an alternative pops up.

While some people might consider this "just a quality of life thing, L2B, noob", I'd say this is one of the things why open source centric apps rarely take off properly: the UX sucks because it's dismissed as "unimportant, because I coded it, and I know how to use it and whst it does under the hood".

Currently you have to tap the three dots menu in the corner and then move your finger to the center of the screen to press "show community info". I think that a nice shortcut to this would be to simply tap the community image. (I would also support a visible button for this, but at least tapping the image doesn't require any visual change and shouldn't change/break anything for anyone).

When using the browser, when I see a post that has been cross-posted to several communities, it only shows in my feed once. Jerboa seems to ignore the fact something has been cross-posted and shows it multiple times in the feed.

I have been experiencing crashes specifically when opening more comments in a thread.

It seems also that there are certain "x more replies" interactions where this doesn't occur. But it is pretty consistent, especially when there are a larger number of comments in a thread.

I am on an A52s updated to the latest firmware and Jerboa is updated to the latest version, if that makes a difference.

You know there is the tree points on every post and every comment where the further options like blocking, sharing, copying and so on is.

This menu doesnt show up when you click on a post you have already seen. This makes no sense as the menu us there on seen posts before clicking the post

Tldr: If "Show read posts" is off, it hides seen posts. But it also hides them when viewing a communitys top posts and even on your own profile under "Posts".

Let me explain: Lets say you click through your feed, see a bunch of posts from a community. Then you make a own post to that community.

After that you see that your post have blown up, so you want to see, if it is the topmost post in this community. So you search for the community and sort for "top all time".

Now the problem: It in the settings you have "hide seen posts" you cannot see the posts, any posts, that you have seen previously, not even your own. And not even in your own profile, where every post is already read, so its eternally empty.

I think that being on a community should overrule the "hide seen" setting.

When viewing individual comment trees, usually by opening a comment from my own history that has replies on it, or just clicking view context: the original comment is the furthest indented, with the replies indented one less, and further replies to those less indented still until the lowest level comment appears as the oc, but at the bottom of the list.

Here's an example:

I've been loving Jerboa, but I'm tired of having to see the same posts every time I open the app.

When opening a picture, only the thumbnails are shown instead of the actual pictures

Basically, title.

If I want to filter as an example just: c/asklemmy, maybe they are two or three of those and I am just subscribed to the one. Instead of using the search all function that may return 3-4 similar communities, from the list on the apps sidebar that have the list of my curated list of communities, a query on top to search or filter that.

Thanks

With lots of similarly named communities, it'd be a useful tool to keep everything straight.

Is there a query or filter to view only NSFW posts? Sometimes I just want to see the good stuff only.

Jerboa currently ignores single line breaks. I think single line breaks should be implemented as the only other alternative is double line breaks which are not always appropriate.

Before, when I accidentally clicked on a username, or on a link, or on a reply button, all collapsed comments would explode, which was annoying. This seems to have changed, which is a godsend. Thank you devs :D
