Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

Is there a way to get to the moderation menu in Jerboa?

Boost for Reddit had a context link you could click

This is the beside the time since the post was created. I cannot figure it out.

Title. I've blocked some communities I'm not interested in but I'm wondering if there is a way to unblock communities - just in case I unblock a wrong one by accident or change my mind. I can't seem to find the setting to unblock communities in the app.

The latest update for jerboa rocks. It improved usability and appearance by a mile. Good job and thabk you!

Jerboa is already shaping up to be a great app this early on (it's reminding me a bit of earlier versions of Sync), but one little gripe I have so far with the newest version is forced app localisation.

I'm usually more annoyed than anything else by most apps that are suddenly being translated into my language (German), and I'd much rather keep the standard English version.

Is there any way you could make it so that we are able to choose which language the app is displayed in? I can't even force English in the android app settings.

Anyway, as I said, great app so far. Thanks for the hard work!

I like the list mode for compactness, but it's too easy to accidentally tap the community or the poster name when you're trying to open the thread, especially when the title is short. For at least list view, putting everything interactable except for the thread link and the possible external link behind a long press opened menu would be great.

When I try to subscribe to a community and it says "Pending", what does that mean from a technical perspective?

I think a lot of confusion about the fediverse stems from the fact that most services default to your local instance as front page. I know you can change it in the settings here, but the setting is also defaulted to local, so maybe that one should be set to all, too?

I'm on Android 13, May Security patch, AOSP. Rest of the apps work fine, no scrolling jitter whatsoever. Is there any way to fix it, or is it just a "me" problem :(

edit: my phone has a snapdragon 870, 8GiGs of ram and I got around 80GiGs of free storage left

Sorting by new is the BEST! at least I am all about it.

Is there is a way to sort comment by new as well. We can see when the post has new comments since we opened it last , but without a way to sort the comments is really inconvenient to find them new commets.

If there is a way that i just haven't figure out. Please let me know , thanks!

Hello,

First of all thank you so much to the developers of jerboa, the app is simple and responsive (coming from reddit it's a huge plus), and it just works!

One thing I am personally missing is the ability to easily discover communities. You can search by keyword and that works great, but I would rather have an exhaustive list of them all, especially as I am new here and I might be missing on some of them because I did not enter the right keywords.

The alternative i found is to search for each vowel 'a', 'e' etc.. because all communities names have at least a vowel, but it would be more practical to have an actual listing

What do you think?

According to the linked issue on GitHub there have been changes to the NSFW blur.

To be honest I did not find an option to blur NSFW posts in the Jerboa settings. I did only find the checkbox to enable or disable NSFW posts all together.

Can you explain how to enable NSFW blur? Did I miss anything?

I'm using Jerboa 0.0.27 from F-Droid.

Every time I turn on the app, it switches back to local/active, whereas I would like subscribed/hot. It doesn't seem to remember my setting, is this by design or a missing feature?

There were 4 comments on that post, I have no idea why it's displaying as -4.

One of the handy options on relay for reddit was the option to blur the thumbnails of NSFW images

Anyone else having an issue where trying to open an image will crash the app?

Hello everyone,

I'm not sure if this is a known issue, but I haven't found a GitHub issue about it.

Markdown doesn't seem to be rendered (correctly) in the app in some places. For example, spoilers don't seem to work, nor does strike-through text.

Test SpoilerThis is a spoiler text

~~This is a crossed out text~~

There seems to be no Markdown rendered at all in the summary card of a post.

This is a bit of a problem for me because I want to run a community for a book series and I want to hide spoilers, especially in the overview, so that new readers don't miss out on the fun.

If this is not already known, I will be happy to create an issue about it.

Atm we have a short list of preconfigured instances to login thru, I would have preferred to use a smaller instance or eventually self-host.

Will Jerboa eventually allow for manual entry of lemmy instanced domain?

  • in the login window, backspacing in the server url removes textbox focus. pretty annoying, when you want to backspace multiple letters

  • downloading an image from the top right icon seems to crash on about half the posts

  • selecting a file to upload and cancelling instantly crashes when returning from the intent

  • when servers time out, i get a "Unable to parse JSON from..." toast. Probably might be improved by checking http response code.

The app itself feels very non-android and more like a patched-up solution on a fad of a framework. This is fine and I get it needs to be devved fast, but it feels very alien.

  • buttons sometimes expand a "div" downward downward

  • as a textbox expands, if you move the cursor to edit the previous line and start typing, there's some wonkiness going on. I can only describe it as: the text is not inserted where I expect it to be inserted on a native textbox

  • scrolling. I know you placed a bounty on it, and it mostly seems fixed, but it still doesn't feel native, in a way I cannot describe. Jagged, lacking "weight" and sometimes doing something else than what you expect. And definitely ignoring system wide animation settings.

  • there's also a lot of flashing on the right side where the scrollbar is and it resizes in a deliciously epilepsy inducing manner. Perhaps the scrollbar can be made optional.

  • the app isn't resized correctly when popping up the keyboard. Pretty horrible when editing a post.

But the abolute worst bug is that when scrolling a sub, your scroll position is not maintained after reading a post. You are always scrolled up regardless of using back, the gesture, or the top left button - but only if you open the link or the image.

The more you dive into a community, the harder it gets to go deeper.

Sorry if this should be obvious. Let's say I want to search this Jerboa community for the keyword "login" to get all the posts and comments about "login" from only Jerboa community... how can I do this? It's probably right in front of me, so I apologize in advance for missing it... 🫠🙇

The app simply crashes after you press the download button. I thought maybe it's because it's truing to write to disk without permission, as it hasn't asked for it. Manually gave permission through settings, no dice.

I subscribed to a ton of communities on the desktop browser but theyre just not visible here. Even this community displays as joined but doesnt show up in the list.

SOLVED: force stop and open the app again

The sorting of comments doesn't make sense to me.
