Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

I know the recent patch added that you now have to long press on the username to have the action bar appear on comments in your inbox but personally I find that a redundant step and preferred the way it was before, could it possibly be an option in the settings to turn the action bar on by default?

Title. Also which option (Hot/Active/etc) will be the best to get an overview of the best posts per day?

Hi, While Jerboa is improving with quite a pace, I've a few suggestions

  • Grey out title of visited thread immediately.
    • Right now, unless one refreshes, title is displayed normally, making it difficult to distinguish between visited and non-visited posts
  • Open links within the app
    • Right now all the links, videos, etc. are opened outside of the app which takes the focus away. It's not ideal
  • Multi functional FAB button
    • Right now FAB button only adds new post, but it can be used to refresh the feed, remove the read posts, etc.
  • Swipe right go hide the current post and go back to feed

I was wondering if there is any way to change the localization to a custom one. If i'm browsing mainly english speaking communities the localization is kind of disruptive to the experience.

Any idea what's happening with this? In the settings the default is set to NEW, but when I open categories/channels/subs, they're set to ACTIVE, which is super frustrating when I'm just trying to find new stuff.

706

When I am in a community and i am scrolling ; commenting and responding on the post then I go back to the main page of the community , where I was before , it refreshes me back to Top and oh boi is this really grinding my gears. This doesn't happen when I am in the All front page , just when inside of the communities front page.

Is anybody having this issues? Is thid because of the app? The app the best and if it is an issued with it then I will patiently wait , but dang i didn't had this issue before.

Is it possible to sort comments on a per thread basis? As in switch between top, new, etc without changing app wide settings?

Also would it be possible to add a button to scroll to next parent comment under a post? Reddit is fun would be an example of that.

What I mean if it's possible to organize per argument to move easilly between them (ex fun category or tech category...ecc)

Add a grouping solution (sh.itjust.works)

Hello! First of all great job! Jerboa has really eased me into lemmy, so very thankful.

Just like a nice to have if one could add communities into different groups. Easier to keep different interests in one place.

Edit: spelling

Having to click every picture just to see if I want to see the picture is a lot.

I've added 3 accounts to the app and 2 work fine. My lemmy.ml account returns Value <html> of type java.lang.String cannot be converted to JSONObject and since this only happens in the lemmy.ml instance I can assume its server related.

I am, however, able to use the webapp with this account just fine and lemmy responds relatively fast.

Anyone experienced something similar?

There is a "hide read" option in the Lemmy account settings. Could this feature be placed on the three dots on the right, which is a more accessible section?

Maybe just personal preference, but love to see that external links are opened in an internal browser. The advantages would be an isolated browser, where the history and cookies won't be saved (now firefox is spammed with lemmy links), just like in reddit is fun

Also would be nice to have youtube not opening the app for it (I hate that app)

Could be a preference/setting where the links would open

Just a personal opinion, but still wanted to share

I see how to search FOR communities, but how do I search a specific community for posts or comments?- -

716

There are two "search" signs in the bottom bar. It should have been saved.

Hey there's lots of people on here with valid requests/complains.

I got none of that. This app is great for the fact it's a hobby project. It seems somewhat inspired by sync (which is a positive cause that app is amazing) and it's just fantastic. Intuitive, no dark patterns, customisable, just a great job peeps :)

Thanks devs!

I started using Jeboa about a day and a half ago, no problem. It defaulted to lemmy.ml rather than lemmygrad.ml. No problem as I was browsing anon just to see how I liked the app.

Now, when I open the app, nothing is loaded, and changing from local to all still loads nothing.

Is this a problem with lemmy.ml? How can I change instances.

Dear Jerboa team, I am writing to you today to share some feedback on the accessibility of your app. I am a Talkback user, and I have found that there are a few areas where the app could be improved.

โ€ข Full Talkback support for all app features. This would mean that Talkback users would be able to navigate through menus, read text labels, and interact with buttons and other controls using Talkback. โ€ข Improved accuracy of Talkback announcements. Currently, Talkback can sometimes announce incorrect or incomplete information. This can make it difficult for Talkback users to use the app. I believe that making Jerboa more accessible would be a valuable addition to the app. It would make it more inclusive and accessible to a wider range of users. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Hunterd189

EDIT: rephrase the post and make it sound nicer

would be great if links to other communities would send jerboa to that community in app instead opening a web browser .

721

So, let's say I'm reading something in a community and then I have to switch to a different app. Upon reopening, Jerboa does not stay at that particular spot, instead going back to the home screen with the saved sort settings. Is this by design or is it just a me problem?

722

Is it possible to create a community from Jerboa? I tried to search for this in the app, but don't think searching for info inside a specific community is supported yet.

Overall, great start to an app though! Quite usable.

723

I'm not sure if I'm just not seeing it, but when I get a reply in my inbox, i don't have any buttons to reply back, or to link to see context. Is this a missing feature or am I just blind?

724

So, I love the app! And an update today already out on GitHub, wow!

Perhaps I missed how this can be done... When. I go to my profile, and then the comments I've made, I can click "go to comment" to find my own comment in a sea of responses to the original thread. However, when I get a notification in my inbox that someone replied to a post or comment I made, that same "go to comment" seems to be missing, which makes the notification... Kind of nonfunctional. I can click the thread and scroll to find my comment, I can hide the comment by clicking the user name in the inbox message... ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ

Please educate me if I'm totally missing it (it's been known to happen! ๐Ÿ˜…).

Thank you again Jerbomages!

I noticed that Jeroba didn't seem to switch to a different site the way Relay passed through to Reddit so I could log in and link it via OAuth. From that I take it that when I authenticate in Jeroba I'm entrusting it with the cleartext password for my lemmy account which it's storing on my phone?

I'm sorta okay with that especially for now (eg. alpha) so I proceeded with things but maybe it should be more clear up front that's what's happening? And really, any of the other apps could probably have faked that OAuth page anyhow so it's dubious if you were really trusting the app all that much less in that case.

However, one thing OAuth had going for it was that would make it a lot harder for someone who steals my phone to permanently take control of my Reddit account whereas they could extract my password from Jeroba and use it to take over my lemmy account?
