Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

Ohhhh well.

Maybe we can have a setting later that allows legacy back button behavior. It's useful when moving through several communities on different instances, for example.

I recently updated jerboa to v0.0.34 (was on v0.0.33 before) but it crashes every time I launch the app. Tried going back to v0.0.33 but now also that version doesn't seem to work anymore. I enjoyed the last couple of weeks using the app and don't like to use lemmy through the browser on mobile. So if anyone knows what might be causing this or has any idea on how to fix it let me know

Can anyone help me where I can change the default language of Jerboa back to English?

Since the update to 0.0.35 uses my device language but I prefer English for it. Is there any option I'm missing?

Edit: fixed spelling of "Jerboa"

I immediately updated to v0.0.35 as soon as i saw it on GitHub, to realize i get kicked out of the app for having an account on a Lemmy instance still running 0.17. Reinstalled v0.0.34, except that now crashes on startup, probably since the default instance it uses is on 0.18.

Do I have to use 0.0.35 in anonymous mode until my instance updates to lemmy 0.18, or is there some workaround?

I set my default sort to "top day" in the settings of the app. When I go to refresh or close and start the app, it defaults as "old" instead of top day.

Going back into my settings still shows "top day" so I didn't miss click. I also tried setting it in the browser with no change

Any ideas?

Lemmy is planning on having its 0.18.0 release tomorrow, and this adds compatibility for it.

So a feature that was really nice about Reddit is fun was the ability to save posts as drafts. Whether it was intentional or if for some reason the post failed post then it's still saved what you typed. Great example is what's happening right now is I keep getting a rate limit error for some reason with Lemmy, which if anyone knows why I'm getting that I would really appreciate it. But not having to retype everything out because it saved as a draft would be extremely helpful in situations like that or when there's some server hiccup or whatever.

Especially with replies, I can have all of the different tabs underneath my inbox empty but I will still see a notification for a certain number of messages still in my inbox. The only way that I can get it marked as empty is to click the Mark all is red button. Is there any way to have it fixed in that way?

With a lot of talk around new apps in development & coming on stream, something I've been happy to see, & commented on, as choice is always a good thing... I thought I'd just voice my appreciation for the Jerboa team, love this App, such nice Ui & UX, I find it very easy to use, all the view options, post layouts, especially the compact view are really easy on the eyes, & great to scroll through quickly. I know there are some errors from time to time, & the odd glitch here & there, but thats something to be expected, given that Jerboa is still in its Alpha form.. Thanks for all you do, each iteration makes the experience, better & better..🙌🏼

It would be nice to be able to reply to replies in your messages or notification damn directly from the tab. Instead of having to open the post and find where the reply was. Especially for situations where it is a post with a lot of comments searching for the specific replies little tedious

Is it somehow possible to jump to the next top level comment in a thread? I find it really tedious to scroll through or collapse subcomments I'm not interested in. There was a button in Infinity for Reddit for this. I didn't see something alike here in Jerboa.

More or less just curious since I prefer using this app.

Is this project free and open source? If not, will it be in the future? Also, do you have any plans to support iOS and/or kbin?

Lots of posts put multiple images in one post by embedding them in the body text of the post.

In Jerboa, when I open the post, the body images populate significantly smaller than the main image post, and I can't open or select them in any way.

I've tried pressing and holding, double tapping, but nothing happens. You'd think, at the very least, a menu would pop up with download/share options.

Is there a way to view body images fullscreen?

When trying to sign into my account the app crashes, I've tried clearing the cache and checking for updates.

Hi,

If you're like me, your probably seeing a lot of stuff you've already seen in jerboa

On Reddit this didn't happen because the site takes into account how many times a post was printed and the more you've seen it, the quicker it would disappear from your version of the front page.

Now of course jerboa could and should do this, But I think there's two opportunities to make this better than Reddit. On one part, putting the squarely in control of the content discovery algorithm, next, solicit user input and ask him to lend a hand in the social sorting algorithm that is voting.

So, a user voting sounds be a way to tell jerboa that "I've seen this" and it shouldn't show it anymore on my feed. To prevent bias, the neutral vote should be added.

Next is giving the user more explicit control of the algorithm. When you vote up or down, you're sorting for the community but also for yourself. Jerboa should take into account user's voting pattern and recommend current based on what the user likes.

These voting patterns should be publicly exchanged in "out of band" communication. Jerboa could then use these voting patterns to further help with content discovery in the following way.

"My user likes X,Y,Z, after consulting public voting patterns, we can see that most users who like X,Y,Z often also like A,B,C and dislike I,J,K"

This is how Netflix, YouTube and other algorithms find stuff you like.

The difference is now, this runs on your computer. You can see your algorithm weights and edit them. Place extra filters on them and most important, swap , export, import algorithm sorting weights and exchange them with others users, craft them for specific usage and etc.

Plus of course, basic function like chronological view that doesn't cheat or insert ads.

Algorithmic content discovery under user control is going to be the biggest user benefit of switching to Lemmy versus a private commercial centralized platform. Our data will finally serve us !

Hello, since yesterday I was trying to join new communities but the status is "pending", always. No luck today. Anyone knows if it is my problem or something doesn't work? Communities I'm trying to join are quite populated so I found it strange. Thanks

I would love to see more swipe gesture features implemented. Like when I click into a post and am reading comments it'd be nice, especially since I use one hand to surf Lemmy, to swipe from left to right to close the post and continue scrolling my feed instead of having to hit the back arrow in the upper left corner of the screen, which is usually too far away when I'm using my right hand only. Sync for Reddit had a feature like this and it made things easier. What do y'all think?

I am loving the app but the only thing that I am missing or not sure how to do is to find out what particular comment a reply is refering too.

I used to use Infinity for Reddit and you could click on the reply to see individual comment thread that this reply was related to.

Anytime I open up Jerboa it defaults my feed to local instances only. Any way to have it default to subscribed?
