Jerboa

I have a fork of Jerboa to help with any login issues for those with accounts still on 0.17.x, until either the servers upgrade or until a newer version allows connecting to both 0.18 and pre 0.18 servers.

Later tomorrow I will include a version with the app name changed so that it can run alongside dessalines' version.

Since the new update I have been unable to browse other filters (top day, new, etc).

can simebody help me understand the counter system

below an example which confused me

thought its like up/down on the bottom appear if both exist

top counter is the sum of both

up/down on the bottom dont show numbers if there are only up or only down votes

but my assumption is obviously wring

For example, I am currently registered with Beehaw. Sometimes I visit lemmy.ml and feddit.uk to see what their front pages look like or just to browse their local communities.

Is there a way to, or plans to implement a way to do this on Jerboa?

just updated to the v0.0.35 f-droid build and jerboa started to consistently crash at seemingly random times. likewise, I would get web UI error notifications while using the web frontend.

did a little testing and noticed that it may be related to the "show avatars" setting being enabled.

turning "show avatars" off and saving the settings seems to have eliminated the issues on both web and app.

will continue to test and update the post if needed. any others able to confirm or refute this particular issue might be helpful.

edit: there are still crashes related to editing a post, but crashes while scrolling through posts and comments seem to be much reduced. any feedback is welcome.

edit2: further poking suggests the underlying cause may be jerboa not handling server response timeouts well. turning off avatars may reduce the number of API calls and therefore the number of potentially mishandled timeouts. crash frequency is likely variable as a result of variable server load. if others also experience reduced crash frequency with avatars turned off then I can either create a github issue or add info to an existing one.

Is there a way to set the app back to english? Cannot find it. Thanks

Basiclly title. I can only see options to block a user or a community. Am I missing something or is there no such functionality?

I've noticed that after logging in, Jerboa doesn't show the server I'm using anywhere. There's no information about that on my profile, in the left menu nor in the settings.

Of course I know my server, but I'm thinking it could be interesting to display this information somewhere in the app.

The entire app doesnt feel "smooth" everything is alright but scrolling is a nightmare. I'm wondering if everyone is experiencing this or just me? Using a Samsung a04.

EDIT: The website is perfectly fine no lags or stutters. I don't think it's an issue with too many people since opening posts and loading images are instant its the scrolling that seems too lag

I think it would be a nice feature to be able to group fx all "Linux" communities into one group, given the federated nature of Lemmy. Kinda like with RSS feeds to see all news on a specific topic.

Dunno if it's possible or I'm the only one that thinks it would be a great idea?

Anyway, please can someone tell me how I'm supposed to add specific instances? The search doesn't seem to show everything, or at least what I'm expecting to see. I'm signed up to lemm.ee. This jerboa place appeared in the search (before I joined) despite not being part of lemm.ee. However, I'm trying to find another page (https://lemmy.world/c/extrafabulous) but search doesn't find it and I don't know how to go directly there.

For the feedback, there's a function in the Joey app where you long-press a thumbail and it pops up the image in an enlarged preview that disappears as you let go. Can Jerboa do this? I kind got used to it as it meant not having to open images/videos in the browser.

Oh yeah and can we hide communities without blocking them? I don't really want to start blocking for the sake of it, but some communities appear in Local that aren't relevant to me.

Just got the update overnight and now i have a text overlaid on my feed. Is there a way to clear the message or otherwise get it to disappear?

As title questions. I've tried editing the photos before uploading. Only occurs sometimes. Is it a possible phone issue?

I had this notice pop up when I opened Jerboa this morning. Anyone know whether it will cause issues? I'm on Beehaw, if that matters.

App had me on anonymous with no option to change it. I logged out and my account was not saved.

I tried logging in again and now the app crashes every time I open it. I reinstalled, deleted data and cache, app opens. Try to login, it starts crashing again. Any ideas how to fix it? It worked well for the past week or so.

In this federated world, I find myself going back to lemmyverse.net to see if a community already exists, or if there are any duplicates already, etc.

Also, in lemmyverse you can actually search instances themselves, which is quite interesting too. Maybe being able to check out some instance's local communities would be awesome too.

Love the new update but somehow scrolling is far less smooth. Anyone else experience this?

I got Jerboa from the Google play store mainly for habit, as it's where I get 99% of my apps, but I noticed that there's been a couple releases already and the store version hasn't been updated yet.

Are the updates coming eventually or has the store version been dropped?

Received message after latest update and crashed afterwards. Is this the right place to post about it?

In my user settings, if I set "Default Listing Type" to Subscribed, and "Default Sort Type" to TopDay, when I re-launch the app it shows me Subscribed, but sorted by "Old" instead.

Is there nothing in settings to the default feed when ooening the app? I only want to see subsscribed communities starting with newest.
