Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

It seems sorting options and choice of local vs subscibed vs all are reset at every launch of Jerboa. Is there a way to change the defaults / keep settings stored across launches? Thanks!

Hello dear Jerboa using lemmings,

as I usually write my posts in the browser session I noticed this missing feature only recently. I use the sleek "spoiler" function very often to hide text behind a heading which can then be expanded by clicking on the headline. This works perfectly in the browser and allows many formatting options. However, this formatting function is ignored in Jerboa and also in Liftoff thus making it impossible to write spoilers or hidden messages and instead showing the "::: spoiler". This not only looks bad but also makes it impossible for mobile phone users to be warned about spoilers or hidden content.

Since I don't have a Github account I would be happy if someone could open an issue for me.

I keep getting an error when I'm trying to upload most pictures. Something about jsonobject. What could be the issue?

Pretty much as title says, I upgraded to Jerboa 0.0.37 today from F-Droid. I'm using a Fairphone 3 with /e/OS with Android 9. I'm not sure if the error message is an issue on Jerboa's side of things or if its's my instance which is lemmy.ml .As is, my posts don't show up in Jerboa or even using lemmy.ml in the browser on my laptop.

I also get an error message popup while scrolling that just says 'Network Error', which seems to undo something I have upvoted further up in my feed.

Not trying to complain or anything btw, I know Jerboa and Lemmy in general is Free Open Source Software. If I had the know how, I would love to contribute, but for now, I just thought I'd discuss any issues I'm having so that they might be addressed at some point.

I end up backing out of the app a lot, especially from the search. Having the back button from the search window not exit the app and go back home is a solution for that partícular issue, but a popup to confirm backing out of the app would help in multiple situations.

I think any feature change like this should be optional though.

(I'm coming from RIF and it had this feature.)

Right now, the best post sorting is Top Day, but that gives a pretty static feed if you check multiple times per day. On the web version, it looks like Top Hour and Top 6 Hours are options too, which would presumably give a bit more variety in the feed. Can these be added to Jerboa?

Title says it all really, I'd like to be able to sort posts by Top: hour, it's all. On a side note, lastest version already fixed the biggest issues I had with the app. Thanks for the amazing work! I love the look & feel of this client.

Edit: feature is being implemented https://github.com/dessalines/jerboa/pull/918

I know this behavior was requested, but the tap to collapse and long press to hide buttons are both really annoying to me.

  • If there's a link in the comment and you miss your tap, you end up collapsing the comment. Then it takes three (or 6, or 9) clicks to click a link. This is particularly common at small fonts. The old behaviour of collapsing when hitting the comment header was sufficient, and still too much IMO.

  • I usually use long press to highlight text and copy it. Maybe to bring up a menu. Having it hide a menu (the buttons) is just weird and disconcerting

Again, I know this was requested, so I tried to give it a chance, but I really dislike it, so I wanted to see how others felt. I'm recently coming from RIF btw.

Hi, I like Jerboa so far, new user. One thing I miss from the desktop lemmy UI is a way to see all my subscriptions (of 'favourites') in a list, to quickly tap and jump to a particular one. Is this somewhere hidden in the current UI, or an upcoming feature?

Thanks, I appreciate the work!

So I've blocked a community a bit because I was testing and a bit because they were posting too much and it was a foreign language. Now I want tk see what are the steps to unblock it. Is there a place with all the blocked communities?

Right now, when you are reading comments, you can click on them to collapse the subthread.

If, however, you are unfortunate enough to accidentally click in the vicinity of the user's username, it will then go to that user's page, and when you swipe back, all of the comments will be uncollapsed again.

This is a terrible UX issue because the chances of eventually clicking some username by accident is very high, as you keep scrolling and clicking to collapse subthreads. As soon as you do, everything is expanded and you lose your place and have to collapse them all again.

How do I set the default comment sort?

I think this is due to file size limits, but not sure.

Oh no. #Jerboa is crashing on launch after the update :(

Title says it all, Jerboa is only showing Local, not Subscribed or All

When I read a post and want to go back to the main feed,I hit back and Jerboa crashes.

It feels like every other day Jerboa gets broken in some new way by an update. First all of the interactions in the inbox were hidden by an invisible button you have to hold, then the app decides "hey you know that instance you were on literally yesterday? We don't support that version now because reasons", and now the back button on both the app and my phone crash the app every single time. Maybe just try a bit of quality control before pushing an app that's broken in a new way each time I open it? Before all of these broken updates, the only thing we really needed was in app image viewing (which we got) and a search bar that can search beyond your home instance (which we still don't have).

396

I'm pretty sure I've been running the latest version for a few days, so I don't think it was an update to the app that broke it, though it does give me some kind of update screen that I can't read because it immediately crashes.

Just thought I'd post to see what was up, since I don't see any other posts mentioning it.

I promise I'm not an idiot, but I can't figure out how to create a community via Jerboa. I did it once a few weeks ago with no problem, but I don't remember where the option to do this was. Can anyone let me know where to look?

I would've expected it to be in the hamburger menu here, but clicking on that menu does nothing:

Thanks in advance!

When I try to zoom this picture: https://lemmy.sdf.org/pictrs/image/3715574c-e575-44c4-9f79-0e578ac96953.png It is very very blurred despite being 1440p in size. When I try to download it, it downloads 50% of the horizontal top and down part is just black. I can't upload any pictures into Jerboa so it is not included in this post.

Android 12 (LineageOS). Oneplus 7 pro.

Superior thanks for all the hard work and we happy users try to grow the userbase!

Hey everyone. If I'm spamming my repo too much let me know.

Since v37 came out, development is going at whirlwind pace, and there are still frequent complaints about crashing/no logins for 0.17.x, I decided to post again, but this time bearing good news.

I finally made a Jerboa version where you can log into both 0.17.x and 0.18 accounts.

Unlike the main repo my release is also compatible with phones running Android 5.0.

Check it out and let me know if this is helpful for you. I'm trying to get this merged in as PR#908 but Woodpecker is giving me a hard time.

There's a pixel line from the user banner stuck on there.

(I'm joking. Thanks for all the hard job and for making the transition between reddit and lemmy smooth as possible)
