Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

Has anyone else noticed that Jerboa shows the very last pixel of the lines separating the menu options after the hamburger menu is completely closed?

It may be hard for some to see. I didn't even notice it until I got new glasses!

I'm seeing an error intermittently while scrolling through my feed - see red circle above. I'm not sure how to make a bug report but wanted to let someone know.

It doesn't crash me, write double comments, or network error me. I'm appreciating this app more and more

I'm not getting notifications when people reply to me.

Just wanted to see if this is a bug or not supported currently, but these do not do anything when pressed when searching

Just started using Jerboa over the last week or so. Definitely filling the Reddit void and so far the community has been lovely here.

Couple of things with the app:

  • Scrolling to load more posts seems very inconsistent, sometimes I have to scroll back up.

  • Sometimes when I click on a post I just get a black screen instead of comments, and this seems very dependent on where I click on the screen. Not really figures this out yet but seems a bit temperamental.

Anyone else noticed any QoL or bugs to raise?

Jerboa forgets my login between uses. Samsung A71 5g, One UI 5.1

I'm not sure if this is something third party apps did previously, but there was a feature on the Reddit website itself that allowed you to create custom feeds. So I could categorise communities into say 'videogames', 'music' etc and view those specific feeds.

It would be especially handy to temporarily filter out for communities that have a high number of posts like 196@lemmy.blahaj.zone, as other communities tend to get lost when I'm looking at my normal subscribed feed.

You have to manually select it every time

So to avoid scrolling past the same posts if going away and coming back to the app.

Love the app!

Just updated to 0.0.38 (from 0.0.34 I think) and it is amazing. The addition of comment navigation buttons and the abbility to go back to home page by swiping right are just so pleasant. Thanks devs, with how great this app is developing I don't think I would need to try the incoming reddit apps.

I used reddit for porn, and now that i can no longer do so i intend to use lemmy for porn, jerboa is pretty nice save for the occasional home refresh when im checking notifications, but no redgifs embeds, which is unfortunate considering redgifs is probably the premier place for people to post short form video content or images

no i will not join redgifs, their search system is very very not accurate

How do I pin important posts in my own community using Jerboa? (Or the website).

I haven't seen this documented anywhere but I found out that in order to allow Jerboa to actually use private tabs when opening external links, you need to manually enable 2 Chrome flags:

chrome://flags/#cct-incognito
chrome://flags/#cct-incognito-available-to-third-party

basically enter these urls in chrome, and click on "Enable" and restart your chrome, and you should be back to care-free NSFW link browsing in no time

by the way, this worked on my Samsung s22 Android phone, haven't really tried anything else...

i don't even know, how to make a link in jerboa, that is working.
i guess it was with a "!" at the beginning.
but alot if not most posts in (let's try) !https://lemmy.world/c/newcommunities have links that either want to open my mail app or crash jerboa alltogether.

I'm unable to use the standard Android keyboard to insert gifs. Could that be a feature down the line?

Hello there, happy to be here and leaving reddit. Trying to figure out lemmy.world and fediverse through jerboa and I have a question. In the comments I see some comments with a red, green or light blue line on the left side. I haven't figured out its meaning from any pattern yet, and google didn't help. Can someone explain it to me? Thanks, and I hope I'm making my first post correctly!

neweat version from google playstore android 9 though, no chance for upgrade.

still server problem. now only one warning but it crashes now on up/downvoting

does not keep settings. always resets filter to active instead of new, everywhere. always resets to local on startpage.

always starts with homepage (ok, no bug but i am used to start with the last visited community)

does not keep the current text line in focus in the body field

does not go to a new comment from notification but to head of post

i could not find a setting to change language (to english)

there is at least 1 com (again, home) where there is no comment symbol on posts. its there with other comments to posts in this com. but thats it. yes, subscribed.

minor glitch - marking is a problem because the text field is small and text does not flow

cut is an option hidden in the option menue in the german versions

if you know how to fix anything (maybe i just am too dumb) or have these problems too pls. tell.

Disclosure: I am not an applications programmer. I work lower down the stack.

Jerboa (really, AOSP keyboard or more likely WebKit) has an annoying spell checker bug where backspacing and cursor based text editing mangle surrounding words and phrases.

When I type in a field in Jerboa (this body text), an autocomplete-like underline appears ubder each incomplete word until I hit space. If I hit space and then backspace too rapidly (as if the spell check can't finish analyzing the new token before the next key event), the space before the preceding token gets underlined and then all hell breaks loose. I have to stop, hit space or newline, and then proceed backspacing m o r e s l o w l y.

A workaround might be to include an attribute, android:inputType="textNoSuggestions" in the form elements to disable AOSP/WebKit native spell checks

I'd submit a PR myself, but as I said, I'm not an app programmer.

Anyone who has any experience with this wanna partner up to help debug what I'm talking about?

I should add.... This isn't strictly a Jerboa thing. Many WebKit apps seem to display this behavior. (E.g., Firefox for Android, Tinfoil for Facebook, etc.) Its just more noticeable in Jerboa because of the length of text entry

So I've noticed through this post that you can actually see the Alt-Text that's being used in images here, which I agree to the post being an actual useful thing and it's a shame that you can't see it in action
