Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

The issue can be seen here, in the section where I'm talking about spoilers.

When using backslash breaks while describing the Markdown syntax for spoilers, I noticed that Jerboa has some difficulties handling the rendering.

In my text I wrote

\:\:\: spoiler **warning! spoiler!**
the butler did it
\:\:\:

but Jerboa rendered as if it was

-warning! spoiler!
the butler did it

If the same post is accessed by browser, it's rendered correctly so I don't think it's a syntax error

Has anyone else had issues with this? I'm not sure if there's a setting I'm missing but titles that are even slightly long will often be cut off mis sentence/ word

Howdy! Loving the app so far :) I have been running into a quirky bug. I'm unsure if this is from the app or otherwise. I'm also unsure if this has been posted/is known - if it has/is, I'm sorry for the repost!

I was browsing some Futurama posts, minimized the app, and then came back to it to find a different post entirely. The comment section was still for the post I had originally clicked on.

I've attached a screenshot. I was on a post about Slurms McKenzie and it was replaced with a weird one from GenZedong, which is not something I subscribe to.

Has anyone else run into this as well?

Thanks!

I'm unsure how to attach an image, as the button for it isn't working properly for me. I've uploaded it to an image hosting site: https://ibb.co/1XN14qG

@jerboa
В общем вопрос заключался просто в подписках на группы. Чтобы видеть их в ленте, но ничего в них не публиковать.
И вообще интересно видеть то, что приложение может принять запрос ссылки на Lemmy, но не показывает пост при открытии ссылки в приложении

Most 3rd party Reddit apps supported this, and some other Lemmy apps do as well (e.g. Connect). Using an internal browser is nice because it doesn't take you out of the app, and also doesn't store browsing history by default.

EDIT: There are lots of comments pushing back on this...so I want to reiterate that I think this should be an option you can choose, not a replacement for the current behavior.

Currently, as I'm reading through a post and collapsing some replies, if I reply to one of them the app expands all of the previously collapsed ones. Same thing if I go back to the feed and then return to the post.

Refreshing the post functions normally though and keeps the collapsed state of replies.

This is happens when I clicked a link to an album hosted on catbox from jerboa. The link works fine on web and mobile site. It doesn't matter if the link is formatted or not, it shows the same error either way. Running on android 12 if it matters.

Here's the link in question: https://catbox.moe/c/wh8o6d

Edit: I also tried clearing the cache and app data. I get the same error.

I deleted a post after I accidentally posted it twice from two different accounts (on sopuli and fmhy).

The deleted post was as I expected gone from my sopuli account, but from my fmhy account I can see that both posts are still up. People can still see and comment on both. I just can no longer see it.

I have the show read posts checkbox unchecked to supposedly not show posts I've already read, but the app still shows all of them, essentially leaving the feed rather stale. Is this a bug, or am I supposed to do something to indicate that a post has been read? The heading color changes, so I assume that the app knows I've seen it already.

If I'm writing a post or a comment and open Duckduckgo browser before sending, all input fields are reset and contents erased.

It's really annoying if you need to copy a link address or check something.

Title. I accidentally close threads halfway down the comments and can't get back to where I was. I'd rather have the gesture disabled if it's too much work to hold my spot (I'm on Android, where back is built into the OS unlike iOS)

Because of the currently small size of Lemmy, I tend to see the same posts over and again. Is it possible to add mark as read button so that I don't have to click into and out of posts that I don't want to see anymore?

The report button is right next to the share button, so I keep accidentally tapping report. If common action like share could be moved out of the hamburger list, as they are on the website, I think that'd make life easier.

Would it be better to make these requests directly on GitHub? I see other people making requests here so I wasn't clear

I used to use Relay, and it had the ability to directly share the image in a post, instead of a link to the post. I really liked that I didn't have to download the image to send it to someone in a messaging app, filling my phone's limited storage with memes. It would be great if Jeroba could add something like this!

@jerboa

Generally there was a question about whether it would be possible to subscribe to the community anonymously?

It's just that transferring content between servers in #Fediverse doesn't quite work the way one wants it to.

267

Currently I saw there is a notification setting for new posts, but it would be great to have notifications for inbox stuff like new DMs or post comments.

I'm asking for this in a few different communities for lemmy apps because I'd really appreciate the feature, I hope this isn't seen as spam.

Pagination adds points of resistance during use and allows for a natural stopping point that can give one the clarity of mind to limit app use to a healthy amount. I understand that the normal web client is like this, but it would be nice to have the option in app form as well.

There are also accessability reasons to consider this, as outlined in this article.

On a personal note, infinite scrolling gives me anxiety, and can be a problem for those with other mental health disorders as is also outlined in the aforementioned article.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks Jerboa peeps for the arrows that skip to the next comment group!! I was wanting one 😊 Much appreciated and I will be sending a donation to support your work.

You are trying to click a link in a comment but the comment keep collapsing, also, pressing for a second should select the comment text to copy or other actions instead of hiding the upvotes section.

Thank you.

It's just dispiriting to type a long comment then find it can't be saved.

272

Some posts that have images never load the image. I haven't found a pattern, maybe it's a yet-to-be-supported image format, I don't know.

Here's an example: https://lemmy.ml/post/2101250

273

When a comment contains an image, there doesn't seem to be a way to select the image and zoom into it, tapping the image collapses the comment. I suggest the image should open when tapped, leaving the rest of the comment area for collapsing.

Basically everything is in the title.I download, I get a toast message saying the pic was downloaded, I look ecerywhere but cannot find it. What am i doing wrong?

I like the "hide read posts," but I'd like the option to always be able to see mine. I have to turn the setting off now to look at my posts, then turn it back on for the feed. Anyone have any ideas?
