The Mouse Outfit is a British hip-hop collective hailing from Manchester, England. The group was formed in 2008 by Chini and Defty, who wanted to create a live band that combined hip-hop with jazz and soul influences.

The Mouse Outfit's music is characterized by its use of live instrumentation, including horns, keyboards, and drums, as well as guest vocalists. The group has collaborated with a variety of MCs and singers, including Dr Syntax, Sparkz, Dubbul O, and Fox.

I made this community to fill a need I had myself - with the hope that a few people might join and I would have a place to check every morning and be up to date. I did not expect to see this many people here this quickly.

I guess my thought is, how can we continue to grow this community? Lemmy at the moment has a lot of problems in terms of user experience. This community is hosted on sopuli.xyz, I chose this instance almost at random when signing up, but I felt the the people and rules here seemed good. This instance was one of the most popular when I signed up last week and it also doesn't seem to be too far into one of the political extremes like the other large instances. I think this gives us a good chance to be discovered by folks from other instances.

Personally, I don't know what my long term relationship with Reddit will be, as 90% of the time I'm on reddit I'm using Boost. And since you are all here I'm sure you all know the official mobile app can be best described as... obnoxious and frustrating.

Hello! As a newly arrived Reddit refugee I thought I would try to contribute. I might start posting individual tracks if I sense interest but for now, let's start with a broader overview.

There is a branch of hip hop very close to my heart, one that has a relaxed, elaborate ambience on boom bap beats with twists.

I won't pretend I have historian level of knowledge but you can think of it as a continuation of artists like nightmares on wax, tricky, etc but also massive attack, portishead and that kind of more melodic trip hop. Some of it mixed with traditional rapping.

This all mixes into the French melting pot and you get this back and forth between traditional hip hop with a rapper, and this abstract, melodic Trip-Hop scene. You'll also find influences from reggae, dub, punk, rock, jazz, Celtic, Arabic, oriental etc etc etc, since this is very much a world of samples, while some artists do compose everything themselves.

Now of course all these things exist outside of France but I've explored a lot, I don't even live in France and I listen to many genres, and for me at least it's in the French artists from which I tend to find "that sound" that works for me.

Now to get you started on the journey, some of the more mainstream artists to search for in your preferred streaming service. I keep it to things international people can listen to (e.g. no/limited French lyrics).

• Chinese man (the masters, within this artist alone you can find many of the substyles I'm talking about I prefer the older albums by I hear youngsters enjoy the new stuff)

• Degiheugi (more modern and his own unique twist, kinda tropical)

• Chill Bump (these guys are more traditionally hip hop, the lyrics are in English, but you can still sense the influence)

• Kognitif (this is very much the essence of what trip hop means to me)

• Guts (here you'll find more ethnic influences, he also makes live musicians participate to his productions)

• Scratch Bandit Crew (not a fan of the whole discography but the good tracks are really, really good)

• Mounika (and finally, one of my all time favourites in his decidedly more chill and dark vibe, bordering on lo-fi at times).

There are so many more great artists and if you did want to try one with French lyrics, then in the more traditionally hip hop category but embodying this branch, I suggest starting with "Dooz Kawa".

I hope that I might make a few people curious with this and maybe even create a new passion or two for my beloved flavour of trip/hip hop.

Maps is a great album

Hello to anyone who might see this. With the potential impending exodus from Reddit, I wanted to start an r/HHH equivalent here. For the record I have no affiliation with the mod team on reddit - If you are a mod from r/HHH and want to be a mod here. DM me with proof and I'll mod you here as well.

For the moment there will not be any rules with the exception of Rule #10 from the HHH Sub which covers post titles and tags (as well as the Sopuli server rules).

New rules will be added as necessary or requested by the community. In general I think the rules on r/HHH are overly strict especially in terms of what is allowed to be posted on which days, what types of discussions are allowed, etc. So I don't expect to bring those types of rules here now or in the future unless there's a very good reason.

I'm going to try to have a weekly pinned discussion thread, as well as a weekly friday post for new music drops.

This thread is for:

• General questions or discussion topics that might not warrant a standalone post

• Community Feedback

• Discussion/Hype for Fresh Music Fridays

I'll be trying to post one of these every Thursday.
