I am looking for a source on the economic growth of the Soviet Union. I once read that had the Soviet Union survived it would have overtaken the USA sometimes around 2006 (maybe it was 2016 not sure). However I can't remember where I read that.

Has anyone here an idea of what I am talking about?

The emptying of the vast reservoir along the Dnipro River in Ukraine as a result of the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam last week has left mudflats littered with skeletons, according to footage posted online, in a reminder of the region’s violent past.

In late 1943, the focus was on Nikopol, on the right bank of the river, the site of metal ore mines that Hitler was determined to hold on to. Today, Nikopol is a frontline town held by Ukrainians, looking across the mudflats where the reservoir was and the Dnipro, at the occupied town of Kamianka-Dniprovska and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Many of the German bodies were left lying in marshes, which were then submerged with the building of the Nova Kakhovka dam in 1956.

Recovering the Wehrmacht remains would involve the German War Graves Commission, but that may have to wait until the current war on the Dnipro has ended.

Hello yet again comrades! As I have promised you this morning I give you an archive of the entire magazine of На Стройке from 1949.

First of all, I'd like to apologize as my scanner cannot fit the entire magazine within itself as the magazine is 40cm by 30cm, and thus I had to resort to photography for my first archival effort of this magazine. I've decided to choose a dark contrasting background, and I've also used evening sunlight to get best results. I'll hopefully try again in the future, with a proper scanner this time. Second of all, I'd like to apologize to @FuckBigTech347@lemmygrad.ml, due to issues with my VPN provider I cannot host a torrent, much less provide a magnet link. I'm afraid you'll have to create it yourself, if you do please DM me and I'll edit this post adding it.

You might also ask why the photographs are sideways, that is because I've deleted all of the metadata from the photos to preserve my privacy. Regarding the photos themselves you will find more information about them in the description.txt file.

The pages have been photographed in order, thus timestamps will give you the correct order of the pages, although rotated.

So, comrades, I learned that, apparently, lemmygrad is blocked from other pretty popular but liberal (liberals block others, lol) instances and I don't quite understand how that works.

I can't see posts that were made from other instances? I'm using Jerboa and have an account on lemmygrad and I can see posts from lemmy.ml, but, I guess, I can't view even non-political posts like memes from instances that blocked lemmygrad?

I often say how horror is to browse bookstores in Poland, so here you have some examples. Cathegory "history", new publications in last month or so.

From the left:

1. "Great disappointment, genesis of solidarność revolution." - i was like "it's understatement of century to call solidarność only disappointment" but then i remembered it's Poland and of course the "great disappointment" in title is about the PRL in 70's.
2. "Crimes of communism are not talked about" - uh huh, dozens of books overflowing in every bookstore and probably thousands in catalouges don't exist.
3. "The hell in eastern front. Diary of a German soldier" - likely clean wehrmacht myth
4. "Freedom, Equality, Genocide" - not even French Revolution is safe in Poland
5. "Hostages of hell" - a tale of three poor innocent Polish soldiers who volunteered to invade Afghanistan and were so traumatised by that hell so they signed up for another tour and now they tell us how bad it was. Typical vet propaganda like in US.
6. "Gramsci, that is the suicide of revolution" - Main thesis is that Gramsci was really a fascist and thus every modern marxist is also a fascist.

There's also around dozen of less suspicious books. And i'm not even covering other cathegories like philosophy (zero materialists), biographies and diaries, political science, sociology etc. etc. You will find nazi normalisation and casual anticommunism en masse in literally every genre even in romance books. Maybe except children's books, but i wouldn't bet on it.

And that's every month, for 33 years by now. Actually this one is on the tamer end of spectrum, the "cucumber season" (summer slowing of the publishing market) is clearly coming.

Hello comrades! I have to say it's quite nice to break my ~~Hexbear addiction~~ tendency to only lurk.

I'd like to share with you this magazine I've got from a flea market here in Poland, couldn't believe my eyes to be fair, and hell the thing was just 10zł! I didn't even bargain lmao. Either way, it's somewhat damaged and despite my ability to read cyrrylic, I don't understand russian so unfortunately the magazine is not of much use to me. I'll do my best scanning it later today (I'll post my results on a new post), and I think of getting in contact with Lady Izdihar and sending it to her. I'll see how it goes.
