This was actually... genuinely interesting.

I really should get on to playing this game like I've meant to for the past couple of months now lol

This was mostly a thing in the PS1 and PS2 eras. The first genre was the point and click PC adventure game, ie the thing we still think of when we hear the words "adventure game" to this day. The second definition was much less well defined and encompassed games like Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Colossus, the Ubisoft Prince of Persia games and Soul Reaver.

I think it was just used as a catch-all term for any kind of console third person 3D action game with platforming elements that couldn't be easily classed into other genres

The mod's just very well done but it's amazing how well the base game translates to VR. Talk about standing the test of time when your 2004 video game can be modded into VR pretty much seamlessly and then blow Triple and Double-A games that are specifically made for VR out of the water

EDIT: Thinking about it, Half Life 2 and it's consequences have been insanely culturally influential in the greater sphere. I mean from Gmod Youtube-Poops over to SFM all the assets are still relevant now due to skibidi toilet, and they're nearing 20 years old now.

I want to host some LAN parties this winter, and am looking for some Free Software Games that would be a fun time. We already play some Counterstrike and StarCraft 2, but I want to expand into some actual Free games. Windows compatibility is a must, MacOS compatibility is desirable!

The two on my radar are:

  • Hedgewars, which seems like a strong candidate. We played a ton of Worms 2 in the 90s
  • 0 A.D., since we're already fans of RTS games.

But I know there must be some wacky ones out there which would be suitable for 30 minutes of pick up play.

I'm curious what you guys have to say about this. Are there any games you consider perfect? Can a game even be perfect?

My example of a perfect game is always Portal 1. Portal 2 has more going on, but in 1 there just isn't anything to shave off. From start to end, there is nothing I'd change about the game. It's short, infinitely replayable, great pacing. I like Portal 2 a lot in concept, in concept it should be a perfect sequel, but it just doesn't keep the extreme tightness of the original game.

Slaves are a hot commodity in the Capital Wasteland, but I want to change that, and I don't want to do it alone.

For one hell of a melodramatic speech, it's... Honestly? A bit relevant and I do like how some of these games explore topics such as communication and linguistics.
