Will try to think of some achievement I could claim in the nearish future to justify buying myself a playdate. I do think low-power mobile form factor games are the future (but somehow not phone games? maybe it's just my aversion to spending more time on my phone)

Yes, what the flavour text calls "boxes of grain" in some guy's basement have BRITISH ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION 1907 stamped on them, and having finished Rule of Rose I can confidently say it's completely incongrous with the game's narrative (though seeing these boxes made me think the plot was heading for some kind of bizarre turn.) Presumably the texture is from some big pile of old British reference materials the team used considering the surprisingly authentic old timey UK flavour the game's environments had, especially for a Japanese game from the time:

They put an actual ad for Bovril in the game michael-laugh

For another great example, the REmake remaster allowed you to clearly see a ton of assets that you would've only previously seen on a fuzzy tube television, like this bottle:

The Japanese written in romaji translates to something like "Did you know? SERUM means serum. I have no clue but I think it's English. I have run out of things to write."

No looter items (blue shells, bullet bills, stars, etc), and you're only allowed to shoot shells backwards.

Since the cancellation of Silent Hills P.T. almost 10 years ago, indie horror gaming has entered a golden era that we have never witnessed before. We started to see independent developers stepping up to fill the void that P.T. left and create games that can provide similar experiences, if not better. Over the years, we witnessed several incredible horror games being released, and each one was unique and pushed us to recognize it. Games like Visage, Madison, and Layers of Fear took over and started to have their own identity in the genre, which made a lot of gamers appreciate them even more. However, even though the last 10 years have included many success stories in horror gaming, what many people don't realize is that the failures are way higher. Many indie developers stepped up in the field and thought that it was an easy market, but they didn't understand that the competition was much tougher than they expected. This resulted in a serious decline in the quality of indie horror games and also a very big difference in the success of titles.

Give me suggestions for mobile games that don’t suck ass

Currently the only games on my phone are

Reigns: Her Majesty - Card based roguelike, you’re the Queen pick between decisions to balance the favor of different groups, progressing through a larger story over multiple lives. Sequel to Reigns which is also great.

Baba is You - Puzzle game, push words and objects around to change the rules of the world the puzzle is in to complete the puzzle.

Polytopia - What if Civ was so simple it wasn’t very fun

Pokémon GO - hillgasm
