The first one was so good. The sequel has dark souls 2 graphics but it doesnt improve on anything unlike dark souls 2. Every two minutes my party calls me gay. I cannot restart the game without spending real money. Theres no fast travel unless you spend real money on it. It crashes every five minutes. This game is horrible, legitimate contender for worst game of the year. Which is sad because a lot of work was put into it. Oh well, I guess gamers need to suffer and hexbear needs to gaslight me into buying this piece of shit.

Had this recommended to me by a friend, is it good?

My first dedicated gaming system was the PS1, and in general I have no trouble going back to the sprites and chunky polygons of the mid-to-late 90s, whether on consoles or computers

spoileras long as I can upscale them to 1080P

Beyond that it gets a bit hit and miss- SNES and Mega Drive games look and sound fine to me and I've played plenty of 16 bit console games as an adult. On PC, I can enjoy 2D stuff like Sam & Max Hit the Road or the original X-Com but most early 3D, like the original System Shock, looks a bit too much like visual vomit.

Going to 8-bit, while the vast majority of NES games are too primitive to my eyes and ears, I have no problems with Game Boy/Game Boy Color games.

spoiler(Well, at least the good ones, mostly made by Nintendo)
Is it just nostalgia because I had a GBC as a kid or is it because Game Boy games came later and had more developed visual aesthetics? thinking-about-it

My limit is probably the very late 80s

I chose Violet because even though I like dinosaurs slightly more than robots, I like Miraidon more than Koraidon and the Uva uniform is enby flag colours.

Shut up that's a good reason.

Scarlets paradox Pokemon are better IMO but I'm more into the idea of utopian future than romanticising the past.

Spoiler:

spoilerHere's hoping Turo's AI got transported to a FALGSC future and not a Bitcoin one lol.

Now I'm not talking about bad as in completely soulless and creatively bankrupt games like Gollum or (insert zombie survival asset flip here) but more like the games that promised the world but missed their mark massively and became commercial failures.

Tomb raider angel of darkness widely known as what killed the franchise and Core design for me is actually a really enjoyable and completely absurd experience. The game has a fever dream like quality to it that i find quite mysterious and alluring. I sense an attempt at an immersive sim but eidos didn't seem interested in letting the team finish it.

Sonic 06. I can't explain it but it has an allure i can't quite explain. On all fronts its bad but I can't stop thinking about it. With better controls this game could have been a lot better than it was.

Operation winback on the ps2. Brilliant game, my favourite third person shooter with a really high skill ceiling its just fun to master. Subtitles are in comic sans which means its perfect.

Drakengard. The monotonous gameplay and ear grating music amplify the games core themes and the general madness as the story unfolds.

Goldeneye rogue agent. An odd one considering the era had no shortage of brilliant bond games yet this one seemed to ensare me more than others.

Ff14 1.0. 1000 polygon flower pot need i say more? I really want to have some private server snapshot of this game to play because it just doesn't look real.

Haze. Thematically quite an interesting game but executed very poorly, the game that killed free radical and why timesplitters will never come back.

Alone in the dark 2008. Its a stupid game filled to the brim with such brazen stupid I can't help but adore it. It's definitely unique I'll give it that.

Two worlds 1 and 2. Honestly somehow my favourite RPGs there's something deeply wrong with me.

So these are the most notable bad games I enjoy. Anyone else got any?

Example that just came up in a discord I'm in: Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days. I havent played this game but someone who had said the game's story of "Roxas hates his day job but tolerates it because afterwards he can hang out with his friends" is enhanced by the gameplay being "player hates the mission structure but they tolerate it because the story cutscenes are amazing"

Someone else said they doubt that was intentional, and I agree. But I asked the question of whether Death of the Author applies to game mechanics.

I say yes. But its something I hadnt considered before for sure.

Learned today from the chat the private server works on Steam Deck which is cool, so there's crossplay.

well renegade cut has it down to a science, if it's a chill game with no real plot i have winamp running in the background with any kind of music and mute the game completely
