Catholics in New York City have been mourning Pope Francis at St. Patrick's Cathedral, the largest Gothic Revival Catholic cathedral in North America. Francis selected his burial site at St. Mary Major Basilica, near an icon of the Madonna he deeply revered, as it symbolizes his "humble, simple, and essential" life, according to the archbishop overseeing the basilica, who spoke on the eve of the funeral.
