"Escape the tyranny of Twitter with the best apps for Mastodon, a decentralized and free social media platform."

@maxeddy tried 18 Mastodon apps on Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows

Friendica and Bluesky's AT protocol

@fediverse

Friendica has always stood out for being able to manage multiple communication protocols, surpassed in this only by Hubzilla (a software that I have never been able to appreciate, however).
It would be nice if Frindica could integrate Bluesky's AT protocol as well. Do you know if there is any feasibility study on this new frontier?

Why has #Strava not embraced #ActivityPub? It doesn't seem like at all a stretch to have the private/followers-only/everyone model map to strava.social fedi visibility.

For that matter, why aren't #Komoot or #GarminConnect jumping on the opportunity? Seems like easy way to promote both fitness and their own apps.

Mastodon (and the Fediverse) have grown, now spam and bots are going to become a more common and challenging threat to instances

I mentioned this here but I am very disappointed in the removal of a web UI for a #fediverse project. I don't use Takahe myself, but this will make those users harder to engage with. If I only use a browser for my fediverse activity, I won't be able to see any of those users without following.

EDIT: Everything I said above and in the linked post is probably wrong so ignore it. Thanks to @KelsonV@lemmy.ml for pointing that out to me. https://lemmy.ml/comment/423338

Does anyone know of a Fediverse / ActivityPub compatibility list I can contribute to? I've found lots of feature comparisons, statistics databases and so on. But I'd like to help find and squash bugs in interoperability. If someone's already doing this I'll add my findings there, or I can just post my notes somewhere.

Calckey, a fork of Misskey, has been in development for almost a year but now it's ready for general use! it features groups, quote posts, a custom Markdown implementation, chat, emoji reactions, and a whole bunch of quality-of-life features!

if someone is being impersonated on the #fediverse how do they find out?

sure you can search for user names, but doesn't help with impersonation on defederated servers right?

any way to search the whole thing or have all the projects aiming to do that stopped because of backlash @ the idea of a fediverse-wide search function?

@fediverse @fediversenews Let's Get OPB on the Fediverse!

Oregon Public Broadcasting is no longer active on Twitter as of April 13, 2023.

https://www.opb.org/pressroom/opb-statement-our-activity-on-twitter/

Let's get them on the fediverse! Use this form to tell them why they should take part in a social media space which is freedom-respecting and federated. You should especially contact them if you're in #Portland , #Eugene , or anywhere else in #Oregon

I suppose this may make sense in the case of something like Mastodon. But something as versatile and customizable as lemmy, which allows for the existence of separate topic-based communities, makes topic-based instances of lemmy not necessary.

Instead of making a new instance for a certain topic, it is usually a much better approach to just create a new community on my current lemmy instance. At least from my perspective as a user.

I find the only exception to this is censorship and moderation. If I, for any reason am unhappy with an instance's moderation and censorship, then that is the only potential reason I can see to change and make my own.

What does everyone else think of this?

@fediverse What type of social media do you feel is lacking most in the fediverse?

To elaborate, there are a lot of different types of social media already on the fediverse such as microblogs, regular blogs, image sharing, link sharing and video sharing.

Personally, I'd love to see a gaming-focused social media platform on the fediverse.

Looks like even more brands are going to vanish from Twitter soon.

One of Twitter's big advantages over Mastodon for brands and advertisers was that it was supported by a range of social media and ad management tools.

Not anymore!

Via Mashable:

"Microsoft is going to drop Twitter from its Microsoft Advertising plan next week, according to the company.

"Users will no longer be able to access their Twitter account through its Digital Marketing Center's social media management tool, according to Microsoft. Users will also no longer be able to schedule, create, or manage tweets or tweet drafts. In addition, users won't be able to view their past tweets and engagement on the Microsoft Advertising platform."

FediAct makes a bunch of redirections to Mastodon so that you can easily interact with people outside of your instance. Does Lemmy have a similar solution? I've been struggling hard to follow communities from federated instances, and would love to be able to do it in one click.
